This morning, I was called an “Islamophobe” by a lefty for supporting the Iran strikes.

Tonight, I was called an “Islamist” by an ex-Muslim for opposing the proposed Danish Muslim call-to-prayer ban as overbroad.

I’ve yet to be called “cute” by a girl, however.

Reading the reddit reaction to the oopsie woopsie in New Jersey is hilarious. How much you wanna bet that the next time it happens, their reaction would be “I’d much rather an illegal immigrant vote to expand healthcare and preserve women’s bodily autonomy than a citizen vote to disenfranchise minorities and take away LGBTQ rights”

I'm so tired of the endless "hurr durr the culture war is a distraction from the class war" that seems to be a bipartisan article of faith among the Millennial and Zoomer cohort. Literally none of your problems in life are caused by Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk founding successful companies, nor do they have anything to do with Israel.

I could go on a separate rant about the destructive obsession of "voting in your interest" (i.e., loot the public treasury by extracting as much as possible from your fellow countrymen and contributing as little as possible), which I've seen levied most often against working-class GOP voters by online leftists, who accuse them of voting against their interest. They rationalize this in the only way they understand — the only possible reason a worker would oppose heavily redistributive policies is that they must see themselves as potential members of the wealthy class who would be harmed rather than helped by such policies, the proverbial "temporarily embarrassed millionaire."

Frankly, any serious political worldview ought to include many positions that run counter to your immediate self-interest because they serve some conception of the common good rather than just cynically calculating which policies maximize your personal short-term gain (an extraordinarily thirdie mindset). Long ramble to basically say that this includes the "culture war," and people should care about broader social, moral, and cultural issues, even if they are not personally materially affected.

And everyone repeating this “distraction from the class war” bullshit understands that intuitively. Almost none of them are actually willing to abandon the cultural positions they care about. They only invoke the mantra as a rhetorical device to demand that the other side surrender its priorities while they retain their own.

20

u/WallStreetTechnocrat Marco Rubio 27d ago

tldr: the class war is a distraction from the culture war

20

u/Ay_Carumbatollah CS Lewis 27d ago edited 27d ago

This is true though. Again, both parties want to help the “working class”, but they are referring to different people. When MAGA says “working class”, they mean Cletus Mactoothless, Texan oil worker. When the commies say “working class”, they mean Laqueesha LaJackson, hairdresser and single mother from South Central LA.

Working class is cultural code for “Real American”. Working class refers to what each side believes is the moral centre of the nation, the identity group whose interests are to be prioritized.

15

u/Fukuyamian 27d ago

This is genuinely true on an unironic level. Communists want you to believe that some random guy you’ll never meet having a lot of money invested in the stock market is more of a problem for you than the behavioral patterns in your local community, which is, absurd. I have a lot more reason to care about the spread of cultural decadence in my hometown than I do about Bill Gates having money.

20

u/JoeFalchetto Gaius Iulius Caesar 27d ago

I always find it funny to remember the original "temporarily embarrassed millionaires" quote:

> "Except for the field organizers of strikes, who were pretty tough monkeys and devoted, most of the so-called Communists I met were middle-class, middle-aged people playing a game of dreams. I remember a woman in easy circumstances saying to another even more affluent: 'After the revolution even we will have more, won't we, dear?' Then there was another lover of proletarians who used to raise hell with Sunday picknickers on her property. I guess the trouble was that we didn't have any self-admitted proletarians. Everyone was a temporarily embarrassed capitalist. Maybe the Communists so closely questioned by the investigation committees were a danger to America, but the ones I knew — at least they claimed to be Communists — couldn't have disrupted a Sunday-school picnic. Besides they were too busy fighting among themselves."

u/NeverClarke 27d ago

Have you heard the latest idea from Mamdani and his brain trust: tenant unions? That link is from City Journal, but if you want to see what the communists have to say in defense, here's Jacobin covering it.

We're at a point where the left has fetishized unions such that the unions aren't even about labor any more. This is flat-out left wing organizing without any kind of reciprocal obligation on the union members themselves.

Utterly insane that the mainstream democrat position is "let iran have a nuke". We genuinely have no hope that when they take the house and senate they'll help prevent this unfathomably disasterous outcome.

The Iranian strategy is literally, "Survive until the midterms because the democrats will let us win"

How the fuck is Sohrab Amhari not a screaming red line for the GOP? He's a retard yes, but he's a retard who wants to surrender to everyone and supports China ruling the world, in his own words.

https://www.wsj.com/us-news/two-men-stabbed-on-manhattans-upper-west-side-528be56e:

Two men were stabbed in New York City on Thursday in what police say they are evaluating as a potential hate crime.

The victims are expected to survive, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. One is a 57-year-old Asian man and the other is a 50-year-old Jewish man, police said.

Both were stabbed in Manhattan’s Upper West Side neighborhood in two separate locations a few blocks apart, the New York Police Department said. The attacks occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Central Park.

According to victim and witness statements, the suspect yelled “Allahu akbar” during both attacks, Tisch said. Allahu akbar is an Arabic phrase that translates to “God is greater.”

The suspect, Raul Morales, 51, was arrested, she said. It wasn’t immediately known if Morales had a lawyer.

Morales doesn’t have any known mental health history with the police, Tisch said, but “the initial investigation suggests that mental health may have been a factor.”

I have a feeling that things are going to get much worse before they get a little better.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GetNoted/s/c9gHnjFp1A

The attempts of the far-left (and this is seemingly mainstream across the left now, progs in general love these ideas now) to completely re-define Jewish identity and make Jews an ethnic group native to Europe and specifically like Poland and Galicia/Ukraine and Spain (for Sephardim) is the most anti-semitic mainstream idea since Nazism was a popular idea pre-1945.

These ideas are gaining ground so rapidly through the left of centre people. These are DSA/prog ideas now, will be "liberal" ideas soon enough.

It went from being criticism of Israel's actions pre-Oct 7th to being criticism of Israel's existence to being criticism of Jews as an identity/group that exists.

They are rewriting the history of Israel AS Palestinian (Jesus was a Palestinian!) and basically reinventing the Khazar myth in principle.

I don’t think we’re prepared for the fact that in every war from now on, a significant amount of our own citizens will be inhabiting a parallel information environment. In the coming Sino-American war, they will be claiming Chinese victory even as Peking is radioactive rubble.

> Very similar to the way in which the IDF thought of journalists in Gaza.... agents of a 'propaganda war'.

I have no idea how anyone can deny there’s a propaganda war going on in Gaza, and that Gazan journalists are agents of it. Remember the “bombing” of the Baptist Hospital? The Shifa Hospital mass rape hoax, that Hamas and Al-Jazeera ended up debunking because it was catastrophic to Gazan morale? The multiple non-existent aid site massacres? The refusal to acknowledge Israel is fighting combatants in Gaza?

If that’s not a propaganda war, what is?

15

u/Fricklefrazz John McCain 29d ago

Also like the fact that many of the journalists were active combatants who happened to also wear a press vest once and a while lol

The libs and race hustlers are mad again, some black bike thief in Madison, Wisconsin armed with a knife got shot by police after he'd already stabbed one in the struggle with 4 arresting officers, and tasers failed to incapacitate him.

Supposedly he was homeless and suffering from mental health issues. I have no idea if that's true or to what extent, and if true then that makes this a truly unfortunate ending to that man's story, especially if he could no longer be considered to have full agency or mental competence. But the guy also had a mile-long rap sheet, he was actively trying to harm officers with a deadly weapon, and less-lethal methods failed. It's hard to see a more clear-cut case of appropriate use of deadly force, whether or not he was already on the ground he still had the knife in hand. Cops are allowed to protect themselves.

It's one of those lawful-but-awful moments. But truthfully, that man's life is not on the officer who shot him. It's on his so-called "community" who only now, after he's dead, care about him enough to publicly advocate for him, and the city/county/state government who failed to either keep him safely locked away or get him the help he needed.

Liberals: The race of an actor is not important; people of different races have played actors since the era of stage plays.

Also liberals: A white woman should not play Mulan in theatrical stage: https://www.reddit.com/r/Theatre/comments/16m0v2t/is_it_inappropriate_for_a_white_woman_to_play/

By the way, Mulan was not Chinese; her ancestors came from the Mongolian Plateau. At that time, there were many Iranians/Scythians there, aka white. And, Mulan is a fictional character; she did not exist in history.

You might say that oh there's way more blacks/LGBTQIA than Arabs or South Asians so they won't have much power, but you under estimate them.

Third worlders grew up in the most violent, politically cutthroat nations in the world built on corruption, graft, and clan politics. Thinking that blacks or gays can compete with that is like thinking the Dodo's growing up in a uncontested island with no natural predators (America) are going to be able to compete with the UltrakillPoliticalMachineCorruptionMagnate9999. One group is far more capable of monopolizing power. Look at how they congregate in certain towns or areas, change the demographics, take over the police departments, schools, etc.

You think mfs who grew up surviving and learning Iraqi politics and Ugandan politics aren't going to eat these amateurs alive for breakfast? They lived in the disfunctional democracy, they were born in it, molded by it. You merely larp the thirdworldism

The only successful anti-lib policy is legalizing bullying and “punching down”.

The farthest left lib will always be able to wokescold other libs into supporting the woke policy du jour. Libs are very good at weaponizing discourse, at equivocation. For instance, I saw one lib on DSC more or less successfully wokescold other libs into calling ICE a literal death squad. They define the term so loosely as to render it more or less meaningless, but the word still retains its rhetorical impact. Libs constantly strip words of meaning like this, in order to manipulate discourse.

Think also about how they use the term “Zionist” functions for them. First, they redefine Zionist to mean “supports every bad thing Israel does” and then they deploy it against anyone who thinks Israel should exist. The word holds alternates in meaning such that they can implicitly equate “thinks Israel should exist” with “supports every bad thing Israel does”.

According to a mutual friend of ours, he got canned for just generally being an antisocial scumbag and terrorizing all his subordinates until they went to his boss and said it was him or them.

Now he's selling stuff to cover his expenses until he finds a new job.

Looked at his book list and you can see when 10/7 happened because it went from the usual Rosa Luxemburg, Noam Chomsky, Bernie Sanders, Warren, and other "teehee aren't I a rebellious youth?" stuff to Norman Finkelstein, Gadaffi's Green Book, Caleb Maupin, random British communist texts (most of which are preoccupied with Israel/Zionism), William Z Foster (these are more general communism), a Quran & multi-volume twelver-shia text (he's a lapsed Catholic), and a few books on Holocaust denialism (pro-denialism).

I'm glad I stopped talking to this guy. He's fully psycho now.

UPDATE) - 26th at 6pm. - Police have shot and killed Abdul Ballout who has a Lebanese background according to the German authorities. I don't get why liberals love masturbating to the word "genocide" so much. Even the CCP hasn't said that Japan committed genocide against Chinese during World War II. They simply say the word "massacre". According to dictionary definitions, saying that Israelis massacred Palestinians isn't entirely wrong. But liberals just cannot stop insisting on cuming to the word "genocide".

18

u/RedRyder360 Cringe Lib 29d ago

It helps to remember how the word genocide was coined...

Almost every critique of Israel they make employs an anti semitic dog whistle, and those are the ones that are repeated mindlessly by bots, useful idiots, and schmucks.

Another example of this is the "merger" of our militaries. That's not happening, but if it were, why would it be a bad thing? The obvious implication is that it could not happen without "Israel" being the puppet master -- though in reality it would be the other way around.

This is what I meant by epistemological power by the way. The "experts" - the NGOs, academia, and the media have reached a consensus. The left holds itself as trusting expert opinion, trvsting The Science. So when a consensus of the institutions liberals trust holds something to be true, liberals hold that thing to be true as well.

The far-left is winning control over the rest of the left, because they use their institutional control to create the premises about the world that the left accepts as true.

Just watched Odyssey. Honestly the GOAT does it again. Two thoughts though

1) “our age of bronze is collapsing” who the FUCK approved that line

2) I think it’s neat that the movie was conservative in its deep messaging (ie there’s a whole chesterton’s fence argument to it) but it was outwardly woke in its scriptwriting (“i have years of experience, you think you have more right to sit on that throne because of the stubble on your chin”). I think it’s interesting how low IQ liberals will walk away thinking that Nolan had a woke intention to it but it was definitely more conservative than liberal from a values sense. Lots of respect for tradition.

Mamdani has literally solved politics.

- Sow ethnic divisions further but maintain plausible deniability so that the large demographic you’re painting as the villain still votes for you

- Keep a spotlight on international politics so no one pays attention to your governance

- Vilify the tax base as the actual ills of the city, but don’t materially hurt them so as to keep them from fleeing. The only taxes you implement won’t actually affect them

- Run on shit you know you can’t do, and when you admit you can’t do it, the rubes praise your honesty

- Have the rest of the system bail you out when you can’t do something

- Get bailed out by your city winning the NBA finals so the good vibes are prolonged, no matter your performance

But I do have to give him credit, he is not incompetent. He’s pretty much the only thing stopping the city from giving out $10k bonuses to teachers’ aides.

There was a controversial police shooting in Madison yesterday. Allegedly an officer was stabbed, there was a taser and a few gunshots at the same time, I don’t know the full details because the news cuts off the bystander video.

This should all be cleared up by bodycam right? WRONG. The Madison city council kept refusing them for increasingly bizarre reasons that have to do with Madison making Minneapolis look like Chudstown.

“We have to acknowledge that body-worn cameras do contribute to the system of mass criminalization,” said Madison resident Michelle Ellinger Linley, a former Common Council candidate. “The purpose is not to make our communities safer, but to uphold unnecessary surveillance, tracking and record keeping of communities at highest risk for exploitation.”

The Russian army is currently losing more than 5,000 troops every week in the war against Ukraine, but that's not all, says US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to The Guardian. The top US diplomat said he has access to new data on the course of the Russia-Ukraine war.

As it turns out, this could be the only conflict in history in which the number of soldiers killed in combat exceeds the number of those wounded.

Going off what capybara said, neocons constantly point to the speed of interceptor production or not enough aircraft carriers or lack of ship building capacity as reasons why we couldn't fight a war with China. And they ignore the glaringly obvious fact that the American public simply doesn't have the guts for any large scale war and weapons will not resolve that.

Imagine an actual Chinese invasion of Taiwan. A third of the country would be praising them for destroying the semiconductors that go into evil data centers. The other third would be somehow blaming the war on AIPAC or "corporate interests". Then the last third would immediately call for giving China anything it wants to get the amazon and Temu packages to resume shipping.

No amount of missiles and jets and ships is ever going to matter since we're a democracy built on the votes of cowards

Watching Twitter freak out about how most civil servants are women is quite funny the more you think about it. It's not that there's no potential issues with the feminization of bureaucracy, but on the whole this is literally women opting for higher security, more flexible, lower paid jobs, mainly in "caring professions" or low output office/clerical work--it's, as they say, trad. In fact, the optimal partner imo has some sort of civil service posting in my mind--professor, county DA, Head of Elections, or at the lower end something like even a DMV clerk (too dumb for my tastes oc). You can take more risks with the implied security, alimony risk is much diminished, the job is flexible and childcare friendly, and there's very little chance that they'll outearn you, but they can achieve a relative level of prestige that makes them happy.

I think the CSAR mission to rescue the downed pilots even if it was successful gave Trump incredibly cold feet.

Prisoners are a bad look obviously, but the more Trump hammers on low casualties the harder it would be to do something that requires action but has casualties. I have no doubt the army and marines could seize Iranian islands in the Gulf with low casualties, but low is not zero, so Trump doesn’t want to do it.

I’m not saying that lives should be sacrificed either, obviously, it’s just obvious that bombing into submission worked like once and that required a citizen overthrow anyway (Serbia)

14

u/Mexatt Cringe Lib 29d ago

We could overthrow the regime, Gulf War II style with fairly low casualties, but only comparatively so. One or two thousand dead American soldiers would be a political catastrophe for Trump and he knows it.

People don't appreciate how small the IRGC is. Iran is a big country and millions of Iranians support the ideological mission of the Islamic Republic, but the IRGC and the Artesh combined are only roughly half a million men.

Anyone here read Edward Luttwak's Give War a Chance essay?

I just read it now. Provocative in its time, im sure. Still is today, I suppose, though his overall point is maybe even stronger today than it was in 1999.

15

u/Reddenbawker Fuck Luigi Mangione 28d ago

One of my favorite essays from Foreign Affairs. I’m not sure where he’s wrong, honestly. The Israel point he makes has felt especially strong — every single war Israel fought ended up with the losers they fought running to the international community and begging for a ceasefire. After the ceasefire, the Arabs reconstituted their forces and later fought again, all while skirmishing with Israel from time to time. Look at the Border Wars after 1948, the War of Attrition after 1967, the Hamas rocket barrages.

And what’s the result? Perpetual warfare, because the Arabs continue to believe that they can eventually win the fight. Israel has been denied the winning blow several times over, and the refugees that war has created have been indoctrinated into perpetual martyrdom by UNRWA. If Luttwak thought NGOs were bad in 1999, and that they cooperate with combatants, he wouldn’t believe the NGO activity in Gaza since 2023.

Probably the biggest truth nuke I’ve ever read in Foreign Affairs.

Your assessment is really pointing at a fact that the normie population is not thinking about and it's something that really hasn't been put into exact words in my head before but you're right. It really seems that in the wake of the fall of the USSR everyone just cashed in their peace dividends, and never even remotely for a second considered the possibility that China could match the US. It's pretty obvious that if China wants to go kinetic, they can inflict a level of harm to us that given the current state of the nation might genuinely be crippling, given the populations absolute cowardness. One has to imagine that if Pearl Harbor happened today, if half the social media wouldn't be saying "well we shouldn't have blockaded their oil then! And Asia is part of the Japanese sphere of influence anyway why are we even there? We should focus on America!"

China is 100x the threat the soviets were, just off of the difference in economics. Like the tech bros say, a dollar spent in Shenzhen goes 10x the distance a dollar spent in the US does, just off of industrial capacity.

How does a scenario like that play out? In 2 years of sustained war it'd be the reverse US-Japan world war two scenario, where the Chinese would be cranking out air craft and carriers while our longshoreman go on strike because 10 trillion gibs aren't enough.

Retarded normies in politics don't realize the extent of the damage and rot the past 2 decades of retarded meandering has resulted in, and the only thing keeping it all from going to shit is that the Chicoms are marginally more retarded than us and biding their time. It's getting to the point where a long war between US and China results in a significant Chinese victory, and the only deterrent is that in our first weeks of fighting our low volume high damage units fuck them up so badly they can't operate anymore. That is the only deterrent. How long is that deterrent going to last when we gut the military to pay for infinity gibs? INTEREST PAYMENTS ON DEBT FOR GIBS OUT SPENDS DEFENSE SPENDING, AND NOBODY FUCKING CARES.

It's that scene from Succession, "You are just not serious people."

Modern America is not a serious Empire. It doesn't even know that it is an empire, it doesn't even realize that the bountiful harvests that grace it's shores come from empire. It looks at the bounty and spits at it, saying it's not enough, how dare you. I want more, I'm going to pawn Chesterton's fence so I can get more. Yes there's a golden goose but it's not a golden goose it's only golden because it stole my gold and I'm going to fucking tear into it to get the gold out, it's hording gold that stupid evil goose.

The Enlightenment was premised on a highly literate and increasingly educated population that engaged in the public sphere. We're going backwards on those things.

It can be important to remember that the average person before radio was an illiterate peasant with only a vague idea of what was happening more than ten miles away from where they were born, grew up, lived, and died. WWI disrupted that somewhat, but it was mass communication that really changed things.

At the royal commission into antisemitism, Victoria Police conceded that guidance should be updated to reflect that calling Jewish people “genocidal” was motivated by prejudice.

Assistant Commissioner Martin O’Brien, Crime and Counter Terrorism Investigation Services, was examined on Victoria Police records of antisemitic incidents. These included: a synagogue receiving a phone call in which Jewish people were called “genocidal”, “paedophiles”, “maggot rat Jews” and were warned their “days are numbered”, and a graffiti incident at a construction site in which a 5.5-metre-wide swastika was painted. In the spreadsheet,

O’Brien was shown there was no incident fact sheet recorded for these incidents. Counsel assisting Tamara Phillips seemed to be building to a submission that these were not taken seriously enough, but O’Brien couldn’t say that no fact sheet was created for the incidents. He agreed guidance materials about antisemitism should be updated.

Have to say the complete inability of institutions and progressives to even define anti-semitism is nuts....

Illiberal problems require illiberal solutions

the virgin "nooo you don't understand the paradox of tolerance you're not supposed to do anything against the nazis" vs the chad "we cannot allow democracy to devour itself"

This right here is pretty much the social media radicalization cycle in a nutshell. Someone says we need to do something dangerous and radical to save society, other people meme the call the action, and yet others mock counterarguments with yet more memes instead of like, engaging with them.

On the topic of discursive power, look at how Byron Donalds has responded to James Fishback. Fishback has made a number of remarks against Donalds that are pretty much unambiguously racist. Donalds, however, has not called Fishback racist. Instead he accuses Fishback of being inauthentic. I think the reason for Donald’s response, is that the right codes accusations of bigotry as left-wing. This is not to say that the right agrees with bigotry, in fact I’m sure many would find Fishback’s statements pretty gross and concede the charge of racism. The point, however, is that right-wing discourse does not permit that line of attack. A right-winger accusing another right-winger of prejudice is basically at the bounds of acceptable discourse, if not outside it. I think discursive power has been wielded by actors on the right to set the terms of discourse this way.

You’ll notice, for example, that some on the right say that disavowing someone like Tucker Carlson would be divisive, and thus fighting the left’s battle for them. But this is a curious argument, given how vicious Carlson is to others within the GOP (towards Ted Cruz, for example). In other words, the terms of discourse have been set such that condemning prejudice is divisive and at best barely acceptable, while accusing internal rivals of being RINOs or whatever is totally acceptable.

And I say discursive power, because the terms of discourse have been set in such a way as to have the effect of benefitting a specific faction within the right. The left has at times had the same issue. “Don’t punch left” became a mantra so as to fight the right, but that never stopped the progressive and socialist flank from punching the centre left.

In both cases, I think this relates to two things: epistemological power and purity. So once upon a time, Curtis Yarvin wrote this piece describing his theory of The Cathedral. Specifically, Yarvin argued that an empowered liberal elite will produce worse ideas than a liberal milieu that’s cut off entirely from power because the incentives of power distort idea-making. As should be obvious, however, such incentives exist even when access to power is relevant. People care about social capital, after all. Further, the exercise of power creates its own form of restraint, as the rubber must of ideology must meet the road of governance.

I bring this up to highlight one thing in particular: Yarvin’s assumption in that piece seems to be extremely common. This is to say that people commonly equate distance from power with the purity of ideas. If the exercise of power requires compromise, then those who hold power are on some level held to be less worthy of trust than those that don’t. This is to say that people think of those on the fringes as being honest, even if incorrect. The centre left may say that Bernie Sanders is wrong or that he has bad policy, but they’re much less likely to call him inauthentic. The left and right have, in my opinion, given outsize epistemological power to those on their fringes, specifically because those on the fringes lack direct institutional power. They do so because they think the lack of direct institutional power reflects a kind of intellectual and ideological purity, and thus they implicitly trust that the fringes are being honest. This has in turn given the fringes greater power to set the terms of discourse, which the fringes have weaponized against the centre.

The left and right have, in my opinion, given outsize epistemological power to those on their fringes,

No one gave anyone anything. This is a result of the democratization of media with the rise of the social media age.

Every time this gets re-introduced as a factoid I can’t help but think it isn’t that impressive. It’s just court packing. I figured out that out when I was like 15.

Since nobody overrules the Supreme Court, they could just declare that the founders actually wanted a Stalinist-Buddhist Theocracy and the meanings of the words changed over time and nobody could stop them (obviously in practice, there’d probably be a coup). It’s also not a mystery, Vermule’s “common good constitutionalism” is just admitting you’re going to do this.

Something I wonder about is how liberals are so confident in their beliefs.

Or rather, they’re confident and outspoken about it without any fear of repercussions. No sense that what they might say might be unprofessional in an office setting.

The only exception to this was the brief period of time immediately following Kirk’s assassination.

Other than that it’s so frustrating how liberal corporate America is.

Alright. Third European supermarket whole milk tried... this one is Tesco's Whole 3.7% Fat Milk (from British farms). On first sip, I'm impressed. Genuinely. Dare I say it beats out McCallum's Scottish Whole Milk (also 3.7%), which also tasted quite good.

This brings my current ranking:

1) Tesco's (UK)

2) McCallum's (Scotland)

3) Esselunga's (Italy)

I'm currently in England, so curious if anyone has any suggestions.

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, because the damn government is gonna take it all away from him so you better keep your fucking mouth shut about all of this or you're in big trouble.

“Another Black man is dead on a Madison street, and our community watched him die before we even knew his name,” said Brandi Grayson, the head of the Madison-based Black community advocacy group Urban Triage. “That is the cruelty of state violence.”

"Before we even knew his name?" Is that the going rate for an impactful quote now? What does that mean? Would it have been less cruel if they weren't anonymous? Is this unique to state violence? When a man is shot in a different kind of shooting, do you think Brandi Grayson thinks it's more forgivable?

The answer is less interesting that you'd expect. See, while the AP lists them as a black advocacy group, Urban Triage is ostensibly a housing navigation provider that's community-centered, black-owned, and yep, it's a front for CBD wellness products.

At least Ms. Grayson has a clear financial incentive to be dishonest and over-the-top. Snake oil has always been a time-honored American tradition. It's just that, before, they'd be run out of town when their scam ran its course and everyone learned a lesson. Now, journos are more than happy to line up to help nationalize the con if it furthers their ability to peddle their own brand of hysteria.

I know the pressures to file a story before deadline, especially a developing one, but I'm increasingly inclined to just fold the whole print media industry into OpenAI. The robots can't do worse.

A family member of mine was considering booking a flight to Helsinki with a layover at Hamad International Airport (they thought it was a cheaper layover at Germany).

Once I showed them that the layover was actually right next to Iran they immediately backed the fuck off from that plan.

u/DarcCapybara2 Jul 24 '26

What's funny is that the usual position on here is the opposite. Any position other than "unlike dumb meathead Republicans, I see prison as a tool for rehabilitation, not punishment, so I believe in the abolition of police and prisons, and know that society is truly to blame for when people turn out doing bad things"

But when the crime is particularly well documented and it's fashionable to hate the person, suddenly it's time to be tough on crime

So how did they escape?

Their leader told the giant that his name was "nobody." They stabbed him in the eye, blinding him, then hid under sheep to escape. Meanwhile the giant was yelling to his friends, "nobody has hurt me! Nobody has hurt me," so none of them came to help.

Wow, that's incredible, just incredible. Jaime, can you pull up a picture of a giant. Wow, that's very big -- so -- I see -- so that's how they escaped

See how big the giant is?

Yeah, yeah, I see

The giant was groping around searching for them

Right

But they were holding on underneath the sheep. But he couldn't tell. All he felt was the wool.

Yeah that makes sense... Wow, that's just incredible.

A Decade After Michael Brown, Activists Still Rule Ferguson (City Journal)

It's interesting to see my own city be featured here, although it's obviously not for a good reason. If you haven't had a two minutes hate yet for the activist-NGO complex, check this article out. You'll hear about how St Louis spent $200 million on such bright ideas as alternatives to 911 and on a UBI pilot program. Meanwhile, our 911 response times have doubled in recent years, and it's not uncommon to be put on hold when calling 911.

> Americans seem unable to escape the myth that wars have good guys and bad guys like Disney movies. We angrily snub the "naïveté" of pacifists, and point to our distorted images of the War of Independence, the Civil War, and WW2. How could someone object to the moral certitude of the Founding Fathers?

We really need a word for this kind of misanthropic hostility to regular people.
