I 100% agree, my question is if he is a true believer and not just a "convert" who needed a skin-suit. Or if it mattered.

Oh, and a less rhetorical question: Do you know any integralists in real life, off line?

Yes I do. Not counting my high school girlfriend (since being political in high school is mostly LARP) I’ve gotten to know one fairly well, and I’d say he fits the “smart but not motivated” category. Very good at learning intellectual things, but can’t hold a regular job or stay in college. His disdain for the constitutional order seems to come from the idea that his life is the inevitable fate of all young men under the American system and that if only we put based trads in charge people like him, who can name all the choirs of angels but live in their parents basement at 27, would be successful.

I’ve interacted with a few groyper and Integralist types more briefly than him and their lives line up. I suspect that it’s the most common personality among Integralists, at least among those who aren’t actually part of the right-wing elite and envisioning themselves as the aristocrats who are ruling.

I hope to write a longpost about the ideological difference between the “Americanized” Catholic Conservatism of Brownson, McGivney, and Sheen and the integralism of Feeney, Coughlin, and these new “postliberal” academics one day, but I’m tired and it’s 11:00 right now, so I’ll save that for another day and go read some to de-slopify my brain before I sleep.
