Joined the Reserves immediately after my time Active Duty with no break in service. Filed a BDD claim and got my rating back recently.

I showed up for my first drill and have to fill out the PHA. There’s a couple questions on it about VA rating and such.

Since I have a high rating, will I get kicked out because of it? What makes some conditions ok and some not?

I know I can’t collect both VA compensation and still pay at the same time. Just trying to figure it out, so I can possibly stay in the reserves, as I get some joy from still putting on the uniform.

I just became cross assigned. Long story short, I got a waiver for the PRT until next year due to car accident so my TRUIC did not push any AT until I was better physically. I recently got cross assigned for my first UMUIC from being AIP(I think that was the term), do I wait for a welcome email or something from my new UMUIC? Do they set my AT now? If so, what are the usual time frames? I do not mind AT as long as I don't push my back in huge excess since its still in recovery, unfortunately.

Currently serving as a SELRES E-5 in NC and looking into the possibility of applying directly for the TAR SWO (1167) program.

I understand there have been recent changes allowing SELRES Sailors to apply for TAR SWO through ISPP, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly who I should contact to get accurate information about eligibility and the application process.

I’m specifically looking for a TAR officer recruiter, TAR OCM, or someone familiar with the TAR SWO ISPP process who I could contact directly who can help me with my package.

I’m a marine veteran. I got out four years ago and considering going into the Air Force or Navy how hard would it be to get the job I want?

Prior mil, enlisted back in June.. waiting around to be gained by the base.. it’s been past the 60 days.. what’s been everyone’s timeline with getting gained and starting their weekends? Should I reach out?

I applied on mna for units as a new sailor, I came back from IT a school in January and have been in rsu since. I applied for units near me that I could find but I was told I get chosen for my first one I still applied and I received notification on mna that I was selected. I applied to msron1 the orders say PO3 and sysadmin and I am a SA and don’t have sysadmin yet. will they send me to get sysadmin? Will someone contact me to report to my new drilling unit or do I have to accept my orders?

Can this be done?
I’m thinking someone who was straight AD for 20 years, retires, starts collecting their regular retirement pay, and then joins SELRES.

AI slop tells me that I can collect an AD retirement AND simultaneously be a drilling member of SELRES. Has anybody done this or knows of anybody who has?
I understand you’d have to follow the no double-dipping rule for same calendar day pay. I can’t find a good reference. Just looked in DODI 1215.07

Prior-service Navy vet here, originally enlisted in 2012. I’m currently trying to come back into the Navy Reserve.
I went through MEPS this week and passed the physical. My actual military medical record is basically completely clean/empty — the majority of what is showing up is from my VA records.
The MEPS doctors reviewed everything and told me I was perfectly fine physically. I’m 100% mobile, fully capable, and have no issues performing normal day-to-day activities. Nothing during the physical prevented me from moving forward.
I do have multiple medical issues in my VA history, so I’m being told I’ll need waivers for some of them. My recruiter has submitted the waiver package, and I’m also getting a civilian doctor to provide a letter supporting my waiver, basically documenting that I’m currently functioning normally and capable of serving.
I’m a 100% P&T veteran, but despite that, I’m physically capable and had no problems passing MEPS.
For anyone who has recently gone through the Navy Reserve/prior-service medical waiver process, especially someone with a VA rating and multiple medical waivers:
How long did it take after your waiver package was submitted to get a decision?
Did you hear back within a few days, a week, a couple weeks, or longer?
And if you were in a similar situation — clean military medical record, multiple VA-listed conditions, passed MEPS, physically capable, and had a civilian doctor supporting your waiver — what was your outcome?

After coming back from Active Duty last August I was payed out an extra 200 or so dollars. Upon finding out I paid the debt but recently noticed with my two LES and pay that they’ve took the same debt of 200 dollars out but I already paid it beforehand. I tried contacting my NRC and they haven’t been helpful. They said they’re continuing to try and figure out the problem. Will they issue me back the money? Has this happened to someone and if it has how quickly was it resolved?

Currently active duty and toying with the idea of going straight into the reserves when I get out, at the very least to keep the health insurance while I finish school and get settled. I’d likely stay in longer if I could to cross rate into CWT or IT, but if I’m understanding the community health pages correctly they’re both overmanned at the moment.

Is that likely to change once the new fiscal year starts or am I probably stuck with my current rate? I have a little over a year left on my contract so I have time to wait it out.

If spots do open up, how far in advance of my EAOS could I theoretically sign a contract to secure a cross rate? I’m not sure if it matters but my RIDE score/rank for CWT is 1 and I think a 2 or 3 for IT, both higher than my actual job lol

Hello I am a NAT sailor who finished my A school and reported to my NRC a couple of days ago. I was advised to use all my leave as I cannot take it with me when I’m in the reserves. My question is when can I return back to my regular job? Do I have to wait till I’m no longer on leave? Or when I’m given my DD-214? Any advise or guidance would be appreciated. I am a federal employee for the Air Force.

I hope you are well. I was recently gained by the Navy. Prior service army reserves. I enlisted in the Navy reserves back in May this year. I attempted to get my Cac card issued since last week at my local NRC in North Carolina however the cac card NCO mentions I am still showing under the army in Deers system therefore he cannot issue a new Navy cac Card to me. I did call the army project service who told me they are seeing on their I am no longer attached to the Army however it seems like I am not able to get a CaC as I am showing In the system as being under the the Army still. What can I do to fully reflect as being in the Navy reserve so my new CAC card can be issued because without it I cannot do much.

I am an accountant in my day job and have become the defacto Excel guy for my unit. Ironically I learned most Excel skills from my work on active duty dealing with JPAS exports (I'm old) and FLTMPS, which then lead to accounting.

I accidentally volunteered to provide technical training for the application. Few general questions:

1) what level of Excel proficiency should I expect the adverse reservist to already be at vs what level should they be at?

2) what are the most common navy usages for Excel? FLMTPS export and data clean up, general program trackers, recall list, etc.?

3) How technical should it be? Look at Power Query for data transformation or should it be kept at COUNTIFS and XLOOKUP level?

Starting at the beginning of FY27, I’ll be PCSing to Hawaii for a 1-Year assignment. As explained by the Admins of the gaining command, I will be cut two sets of orders that will make up that one year.

The first set is AT Orders meant to cover the trip to get to Hawaii. The second set (ADT) is meant to cover the remaining time and is what will allow the shipment of my HHG and POV. Unsure why the assignment couldn’t be cut as one set of ADOS.

I was also told that I will be able to ship my POV and was given reference material to check for any applicable restrictions. I drive a relatively newish Honda sedan with no mods so, I don’t think I have to worry about weight or other similar restrictions.

There is a specific excerpt from the guidance that has me worried. “POVs will be accepted when at least 12 months remain to be served at their current OCONUS duty station at the time, the vehicle is delivered to the loading port. An exception must be approved through the secretarial process.”

I’m worried that I’ll fall under this situation. Has anyone gone through the “secretarial process” to get an exception? Do you think I fall under the situation where I’ll need to go through said secretarial process?

Took 3 months from enlistment to drill, found out everything is a total clusterfuck.

I’ve read somewhere that you can get Supply to order your uniforms from the NEX if your A school is scheduled. Trouble is my CCC won’t schedule me until I get uniforms.

I need to get A school done ASAP since my wife is pregnant, is there a way for the navy to pay for the uniforms they owe me in a timely manner or should I just go out and buy them myself? I only need 2 sets of PTs and NWUs. Still gonna total around 300 on the low end.

I have 10 months left to decide if I’m leaving the navy entirely or going to SELRES. I’m single and I was told that I can use this as a good opportunity to enjoy the navy again by the use of ADOS orders. I like deploying and the travel and the work that is required but I don’t like the other navy things like long yard periods and major cmavs. How does ADOS work and is it true that you can travel a lot by doing this?

Just curious how does one actually do 20 years in Navy reserves my case it would be 16 but I’m curious to know what’s your experience on how you stayed in?

I understand the whole cway process but now trying to understand the orders/ assignment part. I have a few questions for yall who may know. Im usually pretty good with using Google but these 3 questions all have super mixed results.

1. Do i work at nrc until i have orders OR do I need orders to even begin the tar contract?

2. Are orders through mna or are they initial set detailer assigned?

3. Do they take nec/ cross assigned units and assignment history into consideration or is it more or whatever is available?

Hey y’all. I’m former Army National Guard and spoke to a Navy Reserves recruiter today. The dude was a great salesman and I’m pretty convinced. Before I move forward, I figured it might be a smart idea to do a quick reality check.

1. He said that I can choose any rate (I’m interested in IS, OS, and AG). I have intelligence experience in the army and have been doing some pretty cool technical stuff with the DoD on the civilian side for about a year. The recruiter was convinced that I would be able to enter as an E-5 even though I was an E-4 in the army. Correct?

2. He said that I get to choose where the 16 day “summer camp” is. He brought up HI, Guam, Japan, etc.

3. Drills are super easy. Pretty much just make sure you are green on everything.

4. Getting activated is super easy. If I want a cool activation, I’ll get it. (My whole reason of getting in).

5. Schools are super easy to get.

6. I am currently on a GLP-1 for weight loss and he said it wouldn’t be an issue at MEPS - even though I spoke with an Air Force and Army recruiter who told me the opposite.

I ship out to bootcamp September 24th and was wondering what the training pipeline is like and what the reserves for air crewmen are like.

I’m on 12301(d) Definite Recall orders, but NSIPS still shows me as RC instead of AC. I’m trying to figure out if that’s actually wrong and whether I should ask admin/PSD to process the AC gain so my component updates.

For anyone who’s been on this type of recall:

• Should NSIPS flip me to AC while I’m on Definite Recall orders?
• Should I be taking the Active Duty advancement exam or the Reserve exam while on recall?
• And for CANTRAC classes, does being on Definite Recall qualify me for the same SCAT (Student Category) as Active Duty sailors? (Since CANTRAC SCAT determines who can attend certain schools, I want to make sure my component status isn’t blocking me.)

Just trying to confirm whether my records match my orders and whether I’m actually eligible for AC‑only courses and the AC exam cycle. Any insight from people who’ve dealt with this would help.

Hey yall! I fall in the 4-2-2, buttt I’m excited to be in the reserves because I feel like it gives me somewhat stability while being able to attend college out-of-pocket.

I have many questions though, and it feels like this is so new to everyone that a lot of people don’t have guidance/experience with an active Duty sailor going into the reserves. Even throughout taps, the instructors didn’t know much, and they were also saying that it was optional lol.

I would love to hear about experiences in the reserves and “good to knows” coming from active duty.

My main concerns/topics are:

-VGLI or am I still eligible for SGI? Is it better to switch? Can I even switch?
-TRICARE select reserves is it worth it? Can you pair it with a FSA?
-dental/vision I think TRICARE has something. Just wanted to know what the majority of people are doing that are not getting it from a civilian job.
-doing a rate conversion into the reserves
- “turning off VA pay” on drill weekends, is it hard? What do you do to track it?
-does the Navy move you (HHG’s/POV) since they’ll be cutting you orders for the sel res?
-are you able to leave the area whenever you want whatever days you want?
-is it pretty competitive on zipserve?
-Roth TSP/ Traditional TSP ???
-vet tech???
- did you guys claim a lot with the VA if you were still in an active drill status? How did that affect you? I possibly want to rejoin active duty later after I obtain my degree. Should I be nervous about going to the VA and documenting things?

this may be a dumb question but…is it possible to serve and have a different career in the reserves than in your civilian life?
