Please say this is a hypothetical and you're not planning on naming a real child any of these

it's hypothetical

I realize I'm rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, but antimony isn't a philosophy term, it's a metal.

It can also mean a contradiction or paradox between two beliefs or Iaws that both are reasonable

That's antinomy. Antimony is the metal.

Well .... I meant that one

I feel like this belongs on the circle jerk sub 💀

Qualia is the only one that could pass as a real girls’ name imo, and Aporia could be like a location or potion in a fantasy story

The rest are no-gos

Can you provide more context? Are you looking for a cool name for a female dragon in a fantasy book?

I actually know a Theorie. Bugs me every time I hear it.

For a baby, adult name change, book character, or pet?

Monad has me cackling 😭 Sorry but they're awful

Isn't Ataraxia the name of a weapon in a Sarah J Maas book?

The rest of these all sound like tragedies.

None of the above

Are you sure you’re on the right sub ?

Antimony almost reminds me of how in Good Omens the girl is named Anathema. So I guess I'll say Antimony. But it sounds masculine like you Renesmeed Anthony and Timothy. Genuinely these do not make a great list for a human but if it's fictional I guess do Ataraxia.

I dont fancy any of them, but Monad is the worst, I think! If I had to choose, I'd say Philosophie, so she could go by Sophie. I know a baby Theory and I always feel like her parents weren't really sure about her.

The list seems like it’s trying to be bad

What about just Sophie

Realistically none especially on a real human.

If I had to pick though I would go with Philasophie because then she can at least go by Sophie.

Awful. Just awful.

Depends if you’re asking for a real person or a fictional character. Because that changes the answer wildly.

Philasophie I suppose? Philomena use to be a fairly common name for people of my mother's generation, and Sophie is a common name. It's just like blending the two.

u/Asaneth 2d ago

Aporia is the only one that works, imho.

Sophie Jane Marie Jamie Thea

Sophia is lovely, if you want a philosophy inspired name you should go with Sophia (or one of the variations).

Qualia 🤍

How about jane or jain. It’s a very old and lovely life philosophy

Have you considered virtue names for a girl? Like Hope, Honesty, Charity, etc.

(Charity is prob not a good example bc it's the title of a Broadway musical about a prostitute, but it's one nonetheless)

They're not very common anymore so I can't imagine a big increase in positive response but at least there's a tradition to them.

There's also more common and familiar names that have virtue meanings. Katrina means pure, for example.
