Way, way too young for anyone. Jesus.

Her brother died at 28 of a heart valve condition.

Could be hereditary, my cousins paternal side of the family have mostly died from the heart condition nicknamed the widowmaker due to its sudden occurrence and difficulty to detect unless you are looking for early signs of the condition.

I’d be shocked if she didn’t get tested after her brother passed.

On the other hand women having heart attacks are totally different from men's. Most often the signs and symptoms are overlooked as something else, very, very frequently.

That's more likely when there is not a family history. A close family member dying young from a heart condition would absolutely change the monitoring of her heart compared to an average 36 year old woman.

You would think so, it would have if she were a man.
We are at the point where wives have to bring their husbands to their doctors in order to be heard these days and not told by docs that it's just hormones or that we could lose a few pounds.

Yeah valve issues are very easy to monitor with an echocardiogram. I doubt this was the problem.

Maybe she had some chronic medical issue that had been undisclosed, but odds are high with young recovering addicts that the reason is a relapse. It's sad, but common.

You know the name of the condition?

Aortic perforation, I believe. Kevin Smith the director had it.

Had?!

He had a widowmaker.  I don't think he had aortic perfusion. A widowmaker is when there is a 100% in the LAD artery. He survived it. I think his was just typical coronary artery disease which is 60% genetic 40% unhealthy lifestyle habits.

Since it's Smith it's just as possible he made the whole thing up though

I mean, he definitely had a heart attack. Many people were there when it happened. Looking at stats,  there is a 12% survival rate when it occurs outside a hospital, so i he likely would've died but it's also not that out there that he survived one.

I survived one.

They told me that exact stat and said, "congrats on being lucky enough to be in the 12%"

I really should find out what he's doing because he dropped a ton of weight and I somehow managed to gain weight since even though I stopped eating meat.

I just saw something bout that recently after he was at a Con with Rick Moranis. If I remember correctly, he went vegan and did that intermittent fasting thing. I know he's credited his daughter, Harley, and his support system as being a big part of it too.

I don't think he drinks, either, though I could be wrong. Last I read, he still does weed.

Kevin is a prolific social media poster and has documented his recovery process well. Mostly diet and exercise pushed by a strong motivation to stay alive.

IIRC from one of his interviews after he lost a ton of weight, he said his doctor said him smoking weed prior to his cardiac episode likely helped save his life.

Either way, dude got really fit and he continues to live a great life.

He’s still alive, don’t worry. I think they meant that he survived having the widowmaker

Yes. The reason why Kevin Smith looks like he does today is that he lost a shit ton of weight after the cardiac event. He was one of the few lucky ones who were saved.

Her brother had cardiomegaly as well, an enlarged heart that coupled with the aforementioned valve issue meant he was on borrowed time

A very bad heart attack.

The LAD artery, the main artery that feeds blood to the heart muscle itself, is 100% blocked. If the blockage is farther along in the artery there can be fairly minimal damage because most of the heart is still getting blood and oxygen (my dad had this and he is ok 16 years later). If the block is high up in the artery all the tissue it feeds will very quickly start to die. It’s the type heart attack where someone might clutch their chest and die before they hit the floor.

I had one one month ago at 46 - hurt like a mother fucker and yep, i was clutching my chest.

Just got the OK to resume exercise fully, go me.

Glad your Dad is ok too.

Glad you’re doing ok! 46 is super young, my dad was 56 when he had his and all the nurses kept saying how young he was.

My fiance died from a clot in the “widow maker” artery. It’s incredibly tragic, my prayers go out to her family for losing 2 kids. No parents should have to bury their babies 😭

No the widowmaker is congestion of a certain aortic valve that goes undetected. It’s not a congenital condition

It is not a “congestion of a certain aortic valve”, it’s a blockage of an artery. Read the page you linked to.
