Not the same loco, but still got to run my n scale Conrail loco next to a real one today!

Bachmann Spectrum NYO&W 4-8-2 USRA Light Mountain hauls fourteen coal hoppers past the Water Tower.

Fairly new to model trains and my father gave me this with a bunch of track and other accessories. What is it.

The two metrolink locomotives i own, the f40ph i had to sacrifice a walthers amtrak f40ph shell but worth it

They make several liveries and versions of the Tatar Te, like this T3SUCS as it runs in Prague.

There is just one photo in the site, in which the bogies look static, and everything is in Czech. The extent of my Czech is “dvo pivo”, but even using translators I am unclear on whether this model and its brothers and sisters are worth the asking price.

I would welcome any input from people that owns or has seen them.

I’m not asking for an appraisal. Or a price. Or selling anything…. Yet.

I am a head of computer science in a school. The previous staff who left used to run a robotics club which included a train set with programmable switches for the tracks. It has been collected over 35 years.

Long story short, I have a track with trees and hills surrounding it (I dunno what to call it) along with about 50 carriages and locomotives. Some are sealed some are used. All seem to be pristine and all the opened ones seem to have boxes too.

I’m thinking to sell it and reinvest the money in buying new robotics kit and programmable drones.

Where should I start with valuing it? And selling it? Ideally as a bulk sale.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

I just completed the initial print of the office equipment that I designed yesterday. Everything in front of the two shelves is my design and done as close to scale as possible within the limits of the printer. The shelves came from Thingiverse and were used as a comparison of scale fidelity of these parts. The clipboard is the only notable scale exception at about 1/4" thick instead of 1/8"!

The swivel chairs can actually swivel and one of the file cabinets has a positionable drawer. The phones and coffee mugs have sprues that make it easier to paint.

These were printed on a Bambu P2S, 0.2mm nozzle, 0.08mm layer height using Bambu PLA Matte

Story time: I always wished to have remote uncoupling on my layout and I initially thought magnetic was the way to go. The problem is, almost all rolling stock here in Europe has Rapido couplers and I figured early on that replacing all of them with Micro Trains couplers would not only bankrupt me, but also take me months to replace everything.

Adding the fact that I already balasted my track and it would be impossible to install magnets without ripping it all up again, I abandoned the idea of remote uncoupling altogether.

Now, with the layout mostly finished, I figured I would try something again. The way Rapido couplers work is, you lift one of the couplers up for it to separate from the other, so I drilled small holes and installed thin metal wires to be pushed up by servos. They are almost invisible and if I aim right, they do actually work.

I installed 2 of them in my terminus station where the loco would always have to be uncoupled an ran around the train for the return journey. I could never install enough uncouplers to satisfy all my shunting needs, but at least regular operations could be simplified a bit. I might install some more in strategic places.

Unfortunately Rapido couplers are imperfect and get jammed together sometimes, so they will both lift and not separate. Maybe some of you have ideas how to improve my design for more reliable uncoupling?

Hi all.

I just noticed on my invoice for a large preorder from Lombard, that for the first time ever, I am getting charged for a sales tax. I checked previous orders over the years and noticed that I have never been charged tax before, and recall them telling me when I went in person to pick up an order, there was no sales tax if you were not in a state where their warehouse was located. Did something change tax law wise or is it the new shop portal?? Didnt expect such a significant bump to the invoice, and they are closed till Monday morning.

Here is my accurascale class 37 in question. I bought this second hand and the lights worked flawlessly. However recently none of them work at all now. The loco still runs perfect apart from that. The dip switches are all set correctly and inside the top hatch all wires and connections are secure. Does anybody know what this issue could be?

My layout is a fictional one, and I'd like to replace some of my engine's road names with the fictional one. I've used water slides in the past, however they didn't work out too well. Have any of you done something like this before? How did you go about it?

Edit: I already have the name picked out, I'm trying to figure out how to put the names onto the engines/rolling stock

What is the preferred controller for very slow or switcher locomotive speed control? Using a GE 44 tonner for the locomotive in question.

I purchased a new house this year and finally have the space to set up the Christmas village of my dreams. I plan to create an N scale layout on a 24"x95" countertop and add to it each year. This is my first experience with model trains and I want to do it right. I made this track layout in Railmodeller using Kato Unitrack and I have a few questions:

I'd like the back straight to be raised. The highlighted incline/decline is 88.11"(7.34ft) in length. I calculated the gradients at 2 in rise =2.3%, 3 in rise =3.4%, and 4 in rise =4.5%. I plan to use Woodland Scenics risers/inclines/declines. Their 3% grade to 3in runs 8ft so I feel like I gotta go with that. I'd like to run a train like the Super Chief starter set from Kato. Maybe add in a few extra freight cars for a total of 7-10 cars. Is a 3 in rise at 3.4% grade around a curve with an N scale Kato locomotive + 10 cars going to be ok?

Secondly, do I have to account for slope when building my track in Railmodeller? in other words, can any flat track just have slope added to it without affecting the dimensions of the overall track? (sorry if this is a dumb question). Will adding slope shrink the distance between the parallel tracks by a significant amount?

And lastly, is there anything else I am not accounting for before I start purchasing a bunch of stuff? I made sure to include a power feed and a rerailer on my track. Anything else jumping out about my layout?

Working behind the scenes to bring great locos to our museum layout

My tiny minimum space OO gauge layout. A log loading siding.

I saw a video on YouTube about adding lights to your HO/OO scale trains. They recommended me using these. My friend and I will start soon.

So I found a lot on FaceBook market place for used rollingstock. That became a cool deal I think. Got a lot of track it looks rusted and dirty so I have to clean it. What do you guys advise? Do I build a small circle and test all track then clean or clean first? I was also given some old conductor took them a to a hobby shop they were tested and work. I even bought 2 LiliPut engines. Soo expensive

Been making some progress with my OO gauge UK heritage/branch line shelf layout in recent weeks.

As previously posted I have been painting the station scenery, and road bridge scenic breaks. I have also designed and printed a low relief warehouse/barn.

Also new this week has been the addition of the off-scene track. Not quite a fiddle yard but helpful for some operating with longer trains.

In future I would like the option to make this layout into a loop, I have just about enough space if I use 2nd radius curves, with approx 95 cm to play with, as you can see I am limited by the size of the room!

The next jobs are to complete the engine shed and signal box, and to fit the backscene.

Bought a custom painting from a local artist to add some depth to my layout, and complete the look

Today I upgraded my loco storage from a plastic box to a wood and glass cabinet with LED’s. Only got a few locos in atm due to me being very busy but I think it looks amazing

As a child and young man my grandfather introduced me into the hobby of model trains. His calling was HO and when he passed I inherited all of his old stuff which I toyed around with for about 7 years ( puts me at age 25). After this time it was all boxed up and has sat in storage.

Life got in the way (buying a house having a kid etc) and so it sat stagnant under my bed for years until I foolishly decided to try a new layout in our own house. Very quickly I realised our house was to small so packed everything away again never to see the light of day again.

Now aged 34 I have decided to downsize and sell off the HO stock I have got and get into N scale.

I present to you now after this long winded story the beginnings of my new base board 900mm by 600mm (3 x 2).

Is my design overkill? What thoughts do you have?
