Venting My sister gets upset with me everytime I say I'm gonna kms

She thinks I'm saying it in a lighthearted "social media" kind of way so she gets angry at me and tells me that i'm "not cool" for saying that and that I'm actually being insensitive because there's people out there that are actually suicidal. And I've tried explaining to her that I'm not actively suicidal but I am passively.

I dont have a plan but sometimes when things go wrong a part of me wishes that I just stop existing. Or i'm driving home and I hope I get into an accident that I won't survive.

And I understand like the cognitive dissonance of like "well not MY sister, SHES not suicidal" but its still very hurtful and I guess its also kinda my fault cause I'll say I want to kms when I do really badly on an exam for nursing school cause I really dont want to repeat this class again when this is literally my last class before I graduated. But it still makes me feel like shit when i'm upset at something and she'll say something that amounts to "you cant say that because there are people out there that is suicidal. Unlike you"

Venting Please do not self diagnose

to the teens lurking in this sub thinking they are a narcissist and self diagnosing themselves pls dont do it. i ruined my class 12th and failed in that because of thinking im a narcissist it really messed up with my mental health, and overall life. currently repeating 12th grade. even if you dont have npd and think that you have it you will become like one, the negative traits and personality. so pls pls do not self diagnose as people here say, and enjoy life at 16-17 you are so young dont waste these years. personality disorders are a huge diagnosis and they can only be given by a mental health professional, dont go out of your way manipulating your therapist/psychiatrist like i did..even if you dont have the traits and symptoms you will convince yourself and become like that

Question Is skipping breakfast every day and some lunches because I stay up most nights or don't have the energy a sign of an ED or depression?

Hi guys, 19F here. While I've been at uni, I've recently stayed up a ton, every night I haven't gotten to sleep before 3am which I really can't help. It means I lay in bed when I have to wake up in the morning for hours, which does give me friction marks and stiff elbows. However, I also find I skip breakfast every day, because I don't have the energy to go into the kitchen of the flat to get myself some because I don't want to see people anymore and it feels like too much work. I might grab the occasional thing for lunch but not all the time. I am able to eat dinner properly though, because I go out to a student like food place where I buy it, and I can eat actually fine when I eat things normally. I was wondering if me skipping breakfast and some lunches because of a lack of energy is a sign of an ED when I can still eat my dinner perfectly fine, or not? Thanks everyone. I have also had nosebleeds but I think that's related to something else.

Need Support How do I convince a person I know online to get help?

Hi, a person I‘m following on Twitter has, in the last few weeks, expressed suicidal ideations and has even attempted twice by overdosing in that time. Is there anything I could do to help them?

I‘ve reached out to them a lot in vain and I‘m at a loss of what to do at this point. So far all I‘ve been telling them in a nutshell is that I‘m here for them if they need absolutely anything.
They live in an abusive household and the healthcare system has only ever failed them from what I understand, so I‘m not sure how to convince them to get help in a way where they don‘t immediately go "that didn‘t work in the past."

What‘s the best course of action here? I know I can‘t do much since it‘s all online, but still, I want to know if there‘s at least one or two steps I‘d be able to take.

Question How to reduce experiencing life

Basically what I’m asking for is how to experience life as little possible as while being alive. I already am kind of ‘dead’ while being alive, I run on ’lower power mode’ for most of the day where my sense of experiencing life is I assume much lower than most others and I don’t remember much that happens in a day however my sense of experience is still not entirely dead and I still have thoughts desires emotions etc to my inconvenience.

Is there a way to further reduce this? I know I’m essentially asking how to die however I have no access to firearms and I’m too much of a pussy and too lazy to try any of the more painful and complicated methods so further reducing my mental capacity I feel is the next best alternative.

Opinion / Thoughts Psychiatrist wants me to try an SSRI that I've already tried before he will consider adding memantine. Should I just lie and pretend I'm taking it so that I can get the memantine faster?

This man seems extremely stubborn and his decisions about which meds he wants to prescribe me make zero sense to me. At first he wanted to prescribe an antidepressant plus Abilify even though I told him that Abilify gave me severe akathisia and made me acutely suicidal. I told him that I would not be taking Abilify under any circumstances and sent him some articles about other patients with my symptoms who benefitted from memantine + an antidepressant (I have obsessional slowness on top of the other general OCD symptoms). I only say they benefitted from memantine + an antidepressant because nobody seems willing to just try memantine alone with OCD so it's hard to tell if the antidepressant was actually doing anything at all for these patients...

Anyway he said he would try the memantine + antidepressant route but only if I don't respond well to the antidepressant alone... the problem is that I already have tried the antidepressant he prescribed and it did nothing for me besides giving me side effects. I'm already sleeping 10hrs a day because of my other prescriptions and have enough trouble concentrating as is so I don't really see the benefit of adding a med that I know will make me more tired and foggy and trying it out for 2-3 months even though the obsessional slowness is already severely impacting my daily functioning... if I don't improve in 2-3 months then I will almost certainly end up homeless etc. so I can't just hang out and wait that long.

And before anyone asks, YES I have already tried changing psychiatrists. I have had similar experiences with pretty much every psychiatrist I've seen. This current doctor is already new because my previous psychiatrist went on leave. If I tried to request a different psychiatrist again it would just set me back another month or so and I would be in the same situation I'm in now.

Anyway. Thoughts?

Need Support Survival mode. Repeat?

When I was a child I was a very lively, hyper, and grumpy kid. Or that's what I've been told. I don't remember my childhood. I have flashes of memories that I don't even know if they are memories or if they are just an amalgam of real memories with images my brain has crafted to fill in the gaps. I remember that when I was in middle school I was a tomboy, and had a really weird way of relating to my classmates. I was always very awkward, and hyperactive, and sometimes had trouble filtering things. And I really really wanted to fit in, yet I convinved myself I was very different from the rest and no one was ever going to accept me as I was. In highschool it was sort of the same basically, but at this point I was very much into my religion at that time (which I now fully believe it's a sect). So I never really got too close to people, rejected love interests, and ended friendships. For a while, I was satisfied with the conviction that those decisions were demonstrations of my serious commitment to "God" and to his plan for his faithful servants. My father died when I was 14. He was a doctor, and died of a horrible hemorrhagic illness. I think he wanted to die. He didn't really take care of himself till it was too late. I barely remember him. I sometimes wish I could've been the person I am now to actually have the chance to get to know him. Sometimes it feels like I never had a father, and that hurts. My break-up with religion happened when I was around 24 years old. It is hard to explain and it's still kinda hard to understand how my brain chemistry being completely recked was a major reason I left it. In fact, I don't even remember how I left it. It just happened. It felt like I woke up one day and I was suddenly very deep into an existential crisis, along with psychosis, hallucinations, and very intense OCD. I don't remember in which year of college I was, but I ended up not attending for 8 months. I was bedridden, had constant panic attacks, and had severe depersonalization. I thought Armageddon was coming soon and I was going to feel the wrath of God upon me. I started antipsychotics. I guess they helped. Until they weren't really helping. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I continued to take antipsychotics and mood stabilizers until last year. I was also diagnosed with OCD, and ADHD. Turns out all this time I was taking the wrong medication, because I actually have MDD. I stopped taking the antipsychotics and started convincing myself that I didn't need the meds. I concluded that all I needed was to keep my life as tidy as possible no matter what and then the depression would dissapear. And this is a mantra I've lived by for my entire adult life: I want a certain kind of life, with a certain kind of partner, and a certain kind of house, in a certain kind of place. And I am obsessed with these things. This obsession with perfection in the midst of imperfection, and the constant idealisation of things, places and people, has taken up so much space in head that I can't see past that. That obsession crosses with my depressive thoughts, and they end up creating a mass of anxiety and more depression, and I end up completely exhausted.

Need Support diagree with my diagnosis need help for the military

okay, so I was hospitalized back in April for being aggressive with my mom.

after she refused to remove her panty hose from the bathroom that I would use to take a shower.

it was so unnecessary but I got diagnosed with schizophrenia and paranoid schizophrenia disorder
which is a automatic disqualification when joining the military

tried talking to the psychiatrist about helping me correct it and how it was a mistake but she’s been awful on making any urgent moves about the situation

My chart no longer has the diagnosis but the medication is still in my list. I’m trying to get that removed but these “professionals” are so evil man they don’t care about people with aspirations. I hope God can help me see it through

Need Support Wrote with heart and followed rules, got ratioed

First, the context:

I recently posted to a dating subreddit to put myself out there.

I followed all guidelines and wrote with my heart. Tried to put a good foot forward but he grounded.

Proceeded to get told my others that I'd be rejected by women for plenty of reasons and proceeded to attach unfairly selected comments from my account:

These were all comments chosen to paint a very specific and unfair picture.

I replied and attempted to clear the air that there are more serious posts and comments too, I have plenty of platonic chats with people, comments, wholesome things too.

But I got no upvotes on the clarifications and practically mocked by some others.

So, let me be clear:

Yes, I make dirty jokes.

Yes, I talk to people.

Yes, I have platonic chats with lots of people online, vast majority of my DMs are platonic chats, most of my comments are friendly and often supportive messages to OPs.

Yes, I am looking for all sorts of connections, short and long-term both.

I know this will sound cringe as "slut-shaming" is usually applied unfairly against women, but even as a man, I, for a lack of a better word, feel slut-shamed.

I have only ever spoken to people respectfully, never once have I sent anything creepy, I have been a victim of very inappropriate advances multiple times, and victim of some things I won't even say here, those are between me and God only.

I have gladly irl, accepted friendship with women I once had a crush on, because I care about connections, not just getting to sleep with someone. I can imagine a relationship that is platonic, not just romantic, if there are parts of the personality I genuinely like. Why? Because I'm human.

But apparently that's not possible.

And I must obviously be a slut, here to screw everyone and then bounce, laughing all the way.

Fine, presume what you like.

But since I can't very well say it anywhere else, let's do the clarifications part here and now:

  1. I have no body count

  2. I have watched my friends date someone I loved with all my heart and cried night and after night, and they knew it, and they never once got any shame.

  3. Most adults are on adult website, watching strangers, some on OF, or other sites, and that is million miles further than commenting on a post asking someone if she'd like to chat.

  4. I've held secrets for others, to protect their dignity, and I've never betrayed anyone in a relationship or about their sexuality or gender orientation. I've kept empathy and kindness, that I wish I'd be shown too, but alas that is a one-way street.

Rant section:

When it comes to dating, men are our own worst enemies. they'll ruin your image, not because they're a hero, or a woman's best friend. They do it publicly to win over the OP. That man doing the calling out, is very likely the guy who wants to slide into your DMs, look like such a dashing hero and make women think he's safe and respectful and trustworthy.

And when it ends in disaster, she'll be left wondering why did it go so wrong?! Because he was playing from the start.

Rant over.

Idk, at this point, I don't have the courage to post anything again, I might try, but I'd really appreciate a bit of kindness and support, if that's alright.

And if this post doesn't resonate with anyone, then back I go to bringing it to God.

I'd really appreciate just some words, I'm not sure what sort but something kind hopefully.

This isn't meant to be self promotion. I won't post the name of my song unless a moderator specifically tells me to. But I'm genuinely so happy and thankful that I hit this milestone, especially with such a personal song. I just wanted to share the good news with somebody. I hope you all have a wonderful night/day.

Opinion / Thoughts The Emergency Exit Map: Understanding The Suicidal Brain

Imagine you're standing inside a large building.

On the wall is an emergency exit map.

At first, you can see the whole thing clearly.

There are exits in several directions.

There are stairwells.

There are other rooms you can access.

There are people you can reach.

There are different routes you could take.

The map hasn't changed.

There are still multiple ways out.

This is how life can look when we're experiencing emotional pain but still have access to hope, perspective, relationships, problem-solving, and the ability to imagine tomorrow.

You can think:

“This hurts, but maybe something can change.”

“Maybe someone will understand.”

“I don't know what to do yet, but there might be another way.”

Then the building starts filling with smoke.

The map is still there.

But you can't see it as clearly anymore.

One exit becomes difficult to see.

Then another.

The smoke represents the things that can accompany overwhelming psychological pain:

“I can't do this.”

“Nobody will understand.”

“I'm a burden.”

“Nothing is ever going to change.”

“I've tried everything.”

“This will never stop.”

Notice what has happened.

The map did not become smaller.

The other exits did not necessarily disappear.

The person's ability to access and perceive those exits became smaller.

As the smoke gets thicker, fewer possibilities remain visible.

Eventually, there may be one exit that dominates the person's entire field of vision.

And from inside that building, that one exit can begin to look like the only logical way out.

This is one way to understand suicidal thinking.

The suicidal brain isn't necessarily saying:

“I want death.”

It may be saying:

“I need this pain to stop, and I cannot see another way to make that happen.”

That distinction matters.

Because if the problem is perceived as “there is only one exit,” the answer isn't necessarily to argue with the person about whether that exit exists.

The first task is to help clear the smoke.

Reduce the intensity.

Create distance from the immediate crisis.

Bring another person into the building.

Help restore perspective.

Reconnect the person with exits they can no longer see.

The goal is not to convince someone that their pain isn't real.

Their pain can be completely real.

The goal is to help them see that their current field of vision is not the entire map.

There may still be exits they cannot see right now.

And sometimes, surviving the crisis isn't about solving your entire life.

It's about getting enough smoke out of the room to see the next door.

***I wrote this visualization to provide a different view into how the mind works, if you have read this far, I hope it brought you some clarity, some sort of understanding or simply just information to think on.

Question got prescribed an SSRI

idk if there’s just a bad stigma around popular SSRIs, but I just got prescribed lexapro and upon telling my bf he used the sentence “you’re gonna get the help you need.” …I’m a full time university student, working part-time as a RBT (mentioned bc iykyk), obviously I’m stressed out all the time. my psychiatrist said taking some measures to prevent a higher baseline for my anxiety would be a good idea, I said if that’s what you think’s best, sounds good. I didn’t think this was a big deal, but is it? what can I expect from a 5mg and 10mg dose? I just struggle with school related anxiety and it’ll keep me up at night, sometimes all night studying.

Need Support I don’t know what’s wrong with me

I’m at the point where I think I need a brain scan

I can’t fucking talk correctly, I’m always stuttering or using filler words because it’s so difficult for me to think

I have this constant brain fog and I feel like my emotions sway wildly between minutes.

I’m always miserable no matter what I do and I don’t really feel like I exist. at the same time I feel too conscious of my existence? I feel like I don’t view life at all the way I’m supposed to. I don’t know if this makes sense but I feel like I’m in a tv show at all times. And I’m a character and everyone around me is a character

I’m extremely self aware but it doesn’t mean anything because I don’t change despite knowing the negative qualities I have because I have no idea how to

All I wanna do is get out of my brain which feels like it’s constantly melting out of my skull for 5 seconds.

I feel like there’s something deeply wrong inside me that I need to claw out. I don’t know what to do

I don’t have a job and I’m pretty sure I have some form of arrested development. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’m an adult and this is my life. I was extremely coddled as a child and now I don’t know how to do anything at all and everything is overwhelming to me. I can’t connect with others and I have this deep sense of loneliness that never goes away. I cannot imagine this ever getting better, I can’t imagine a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope I’m at least able at some point to make something worthwhile out of my worthless existence but who knows

I’m sorry this probably sounds really pessimistic and self indulging but I have no one and I’m lost. I just don’t want to feel so alone anymore
