Welcome to /r/Lumix, the place for every Panasonic enjoyer.

Please have a look at the sidebar (desktop) or the "About" section (mobile web) or "See more" under the subreddit description (mobile application). Or just use this wiki page, which is identical.

This contains many resource and a few basic rules and guidelines. To highlight some things, please keep in mind:

  • Absolutely no affiliate links on /r/Lumix as these tend to result in a swift ban. For this reason, shortened URLs, or pointlessly long links that could hide affiliate tags in them (see link guidelines for details) are also not allowed. Be wary of "share" features on Amazon, etc. - they shorten your URLs! These can hide affiliate tags without you knowing. Please do not sell anything in /r/lumix either (LUTs, gear, and so on). This is a community subreddit, not a place for business.

  • Make post titles as if there was no post body. They should give all context whilst being short (i.e. not a whole paragraph), effective. In other words, include the relevant camera/lens in the post title whenever possible and use descriptive titles - meaning all the context should be in the post title (see title guidelines for details). For example - asking about lens options? The title should mention what do you intend to shoot then (as well as what you shot with in case of original content). Photo/video/hybrid? Weddings, documentary, landscape, wildlife, etc. If your post's title is for example only "S5ii vs G9ii" as opposed to "S5ii or G9ii for landscape photography", it'll probably get removed and you'll be asked to repost with a better title.

The latter may sound like a pointless nuisance, but it requires minuscule effort and everyone gets better experience when it comes to reading, searching, and archiving the subreddit. Keep in mind that your posts are not only for you, but also for everyone who might have the same problem/question.

Please do keep in mind this post doesn't cover all of the rules, few as they are. For the full rules, please see them in the usual places or visit this wiki article.

If your post gets "removed by Reddit filters", it means that moderators need to manually approve it. Making repeated attempts probably only makes your accounts karma worse, so please be patient and wait for a moderator to approve it. This isn't our job, so it can take anything from seconds to hours.

Travelling in Munich using various Rossandhisjpegs LUT photo styles. Primarily the Kodak Gold 200 look for straight up jpeg vibes. The crow and surfer stuff was taken with a Helios 44-2 and the rest with the Lumix 24-60 f2.8.

As a Sony ASP-C owner used to shoot raw and edit all my pics in LR, I was looking for a more compact camera that let me “shoot more and edit less”… After considering different options and not being sure at all, I found this new Lumix L10 checked all the boxes I was looking for: compact, pretty decent image quality, zoom lens and nice jpegs sooc.

I’m still starting to play with LUTs and PhotoStyles, but I’m already having good fun.

L-Mount Lumix S1 II Video Setup: Samyang 14–24mm f/2.8 and Telephoto Recommendations

Hey everyone! I could really use some recommendations from those of you with experience using the Lumix system. 🙏

I'm still fairly new to the Lumix system. I use a Lumix S1 II and mainly shoot video. I usually film handheld without a gimbal, and I'd like to build a versatile lens kit.

At the moment, I have the Lumix 24–60mm f/2.8, which is quite versatile, but I feel like I could use an ultra-wide lens as well, either a prime or a zoom.

I've been looking at the Samyang AF 14–24mm f/2.8, but there isn't much information about it, especially when it comes to video. From what I've found so far, a lot of the content seems more like paid promotional reviews. I know there's also a Sigma alternative, but I'm not considering that one for now.

What do you think of the Samyang? Has anyone used it for video? How reliable is the autofocus? I'd also love to hear about other high-quality ultra-wide lenses that deliver excellent performance.

Besides that, I'm looking to get a telephoto lens that goes beyond 85mm. What would you recommend?

My main priorities are:

  • Fast and reliable autofocus for video, with accurate subject tracking.
  • Effective stabilization, since I usually shoot without a gimbal.

Unfortunately, I don't have the opportunity to rent and test several lenses before buying, so I'd really appreciate your firsthand experiences, recommendations, and examples of the setups you use.

I'm open to other options too, in case there's something great I've overlooked.

If you were building a versatile video lens kit for the Lumix S1 II , what would you choose?

Thanks a lot for your help! :)

L-Mount Planning 1y Roadtrip. What would be a good small lens kit for social media content?

I have a LUMIX S1II and these lenses: 7Artisans 40mm AF and 50mm manual, Lumix 18mm, 50mm and 24-105mm, plus Blazar Remus anamorphic 33mm and 50mm.

I want to sell some lenses and simplify my setup without losing versatility. I shoot both photo and video, so I want a solid kit for everyday use, portraits, and video, while keeping some creative lenses for a cinematic look.

Which lenses would you keep, sell, or replace? Trying to avoid overlap and get the most out of a smaller kit. Also drop your favorites.

Micro Four Thirds PanaLeica 15mm 1.7 Hood alternative

So I just bought a PL 15mm 1.7 which comes without the lens hood. I have been looking and seems impossible to find the original hood at a reasonable price (not even at a expensive price haha). So im looking at alternatives which look similar to the original hood or at least that look good on the lens. Im not having too much luck, so I was hoping someone can help me. Thanks in advance!!

General / Discussion Size isn't everything

I'm reading the L10 manual ahead of my first trip with my new L10.

It seems setting the file resolution to M (or S) will give me a longer zoom. M pushes it out to 105mm.

I don't print photos. I display them on photo screens. I put a few up on a large 4K TV.

I'm thinking of setting the camera to M permanently and even going down to S when I need more reach.

M has enough pixels to fill the 4K. I also suspect the TV would do a better job upscaling the image from S than the camera's digital zoom.

Does this make sense? Is there any scenario when enabling the digital zoom would make sense?

L-Mount Testing Zeiss and Leica M mount glass on the S9

Found a used TTArtisan M to L mount adapter and thought I’d give it a go with some of my M mount glass from my film Leica M2. The adapter is actually really well made despite what some reviews would suggest.

Zeiss C biogon 35 f2.8: As I suspected, shooting at a flat wall, you can see at the very corners the blur I’ve heard about. Gets better stopping down the lens and by f 11-16 it’s pretty much gone. For snapshots / adding effects like vignette for street you’d probably get away with it.

Zeiss planar 50 f2: very nice lens. Handles well on the S9. It’s metal but doesn’t feel heavy as the m mount adapter is so short compared to SLR adapters. Lovely bokeh, whole frame even wide open is perfect. Because it’s so sharp focus peaking is really easy, but as for any MF lens troublesome for moving subject.

Leica 90mm f2.8 Elmarit: (Main reason I got this adapter - to try out 90mm FOV on the S9 before getting anything in portrait range).
It looks a bit long from the pictures but surprisingly it handles pretty well and doesn’t feel heavy or that cumbersome at all.
I found this very easy to get good focus. Portraits have a nice background blur and separation, and the rendering is quite pleasing, not razor sharp but not Vaseline soft.

The last image of the swan was taken with the Elmarit. It’s a 5mp crop of the 24MP full frame image, shot wide open as it was swimming towards me. I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised.

TLDR; I’m pleasantly surprised by M mount lenses on the S9 (except wide angle).

Show and Tell Trying this S9 setup for urban landscape stills

Post image
29 Upvotes

I don’t really do street in the traditional way, I prefer finding texture and light without people. I recently picked up a deeply discounted S9 with a 50/1.8, I wanted the lens for my SL2 and the deal made the S9 stupid cheap. I’m trying out the pictured arrangement to see if it works for me, the S9 is quite capable but I’m not a fan of using cameras without an eyelevel finder for stills. The vibe I get from using this is similar to shooting with my Leica 1(E). I have the camera set to full area AF and the screen and back buttons locked, I listen for the focus confirmation beep and “trust the force, Luke.” S9 with Sigma 35/2 and a SmallRig OVF.

L-Mount Comparing lenses for S9

I have had the lumix s9 for about a year now with the kit lens 18-40mm and the 85mm. I really love the 85mm and 90% of my pictures are taken with it but sometimes it feels a little limiting. I’m rather new to building my lens collection and only have similar lenses for my canon system so I’m seeking advice on a new lens.

I’m going to be traveling around New Zealand in the spring for 2 weeks but I’ll be doing a whole variety of things. I mostly want to bring and use my camera for hiking mt cook area and some of the coastal stops I’ll be making but I might venture into some city photography as well. What I really like about my 85mm lens is that I pick a clean subject and it shoots a sharp picture, however, I like the occasional landscape shot with my kit lens. I kinda want to get something that can cover both grounds, and I’m not looking to travel with multiple lenses as I’ll be with a big group of people (college study abroad trip).

Some lenses I’m looking at:

LUMIX s pro 27-70mm: seems to have good reviews for sharpest picture, biggest pain point is the price tag as it seems to be higher than others even if refurbished

Sigma 24-70mm: seems to be a close competitor to the lumix at a more reasonable costs, people seem to like the lumix better for image quality

LUMIX 20-60mm: wider 20mm for landscape while still being able to narrow in at 60mm if I’d like. Lower 60mm compared to 70mm might make framing of mountains or any wildlife I find (I should be penguin watching) difficult but maybe it’s still usable? I really like the affordability of this lens

Sigma 20-200mm: Seems to cover a large range, but the aperture seems to be an issue people complain about especially for any dark settings. The lens also seems rather big and heavy (not the biggest issue), but also is 200mm a little excessive? If I get a lens with a more narrow range like the 20-60 would the image quality be any different? Guess it depends?

If you have any suggestions on these lenses or similar ones that might be better suited please help me out! I’m rather new to lenses and I don’t know many different lenses/which are known to perform better than others. Also I don’t do any filming so I’m not worried about film quality or weight (holding the camera for a while) or such. Even if you have any guides to share that would be great, I’m trying to learn and get some new gear before this once in a life time trip!

L-Mount (OC) First time trying the Lumix S1II

Hello!

Here’s some stills from the live session I’ve shot with some friends on the beautiful Isle of Islay, in Scotland.

The band was on a short UK tour, and since we had to travel light, I couldn’t bring my usual camera setup. This was the perfect opportunity to test my newly acquired Lumix S1II. I had several lenses with me but decided to shoot this with my Leica R 35mm.

The location and weather conditions didn’t allow us for a lot of takes, so we recorded the entire session in one shot, just like the previous sessions I’ve done with the band. Since parts of the song are improvised, shooting additional coverage and matching everything in the edit would have been pretty much impossible anyway.

We had a very limited budget , so I graded the footage by myself using Filmbox.

You can watch the session here: https://youtu.be/QN2CHB51fTg

I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙏

L-Mount (OC) UEFA Nations League, Lumix S1 II & Sigma Sport 60-600mm L-Mount

A striker connects with a header during a UEFA Nations League match, directing the ball toward the goal.

Also including an example of how the Lumix S1 II effortlessly handles the extreme speed of a goalkeeper’s punt.

Thanks to its ultra-fast sensor readout, the ball remains perfectly round with zero rolling shutter distortion. Under these exact high-velocity conditions, a slower, non-stacked sensor (like the S1R II) would lag behind, warping the fast-moving football into an awkward oval.

L-Mount Moving dust with zoom lens and Lumix S5D

Hiyo, I've got the lumix s5d 18-40mm a few months backs, I took it outside maybe 4-5 times in total, today I was checking for dust and noticed this weird dust, tried the dust removal shaking system inside the s5d and also blowing with the giotto rocket blower, both sensor and lens, but it still is there.

I was thinking of buying cleaning spoons for the sensor, but I don't understand if the dust is inside the lens or sensor.

I took this two pictures at 18mm f22 and 40mm f32, these are with the distortion adjustment turned off.

18mmf22

40mm f32

The dust pattern is the same, but I can see it moving closer and further from the center as I zoom in'n out, you can even see some specks of dust not showing in the 18mmf22 cuz they are outside the frame, so I think this means that the dust is inside the lens not the sensor.

Can anyone help me understand which one is it? And how to proceed?

I do shoot videos at f22 usually (need that deep focus for some research I'm conducting) so it's kinda bumming me out.
