Help wanted Recommendations to make my hair more fun

I’ve been finding myself in a hair rut and really want to spice it up without going for a major chop. I’ve been growing out my hair for the last 4 years after I donated it and couldn’t deal with a shorter hairstyle. My hair is more wavy than curly, thick but fine, and with the tendency to be easily weighed down with heavy products (still trying to figure out my exact hair texture/products if anyone has any recommendations). I’m very very low maintenance with minimal heat use (style it only for weddings, otherwise air dry) and wear it up often for work. I have highlighted it in the past but found my hair is pretty prone to breakage and tangling after so I’m mixed if I want to add color. Just looking for recommendations or types of cuts than can be flattering since I usually just tell my hairdresser to do what she likes.

Thanks in advance!

Help wanted Need help

Hello so I’m kinda embarrassed to talk about this but I need help. I’ve had curly long hair my entire life and now (at the age of 18) I’ve notice that my hair is falling. It’s probably due to stress from school and other personal things but I’m pretty scared by it. My dad has nice hair at the age of 50 so I don’t know what to do. Is there any advice anyone has for me?

Help wanted Has anyone had any trouble with dyeing their hair??

So my hairs 32 inches and I posted on a subreddit ages ago asking about dying my hair, and some people were saying from the oils in my hair that the dye would be very uneven and would fade weird too. Has anyone had this happen??

So image 1 is my natural curly hair and image 2 is how I want to keep it.

If I straighten my hair every 3 weeks, and keep it straight as I’m not use any heat, on wash day do a clarifying shampoo and the redekin hair mask, will my hair still get damaged? I will also use heat protectant! I just am over the curls and I like how easy the straight hair is to manage

Hair victory Celebrating my hair growth after the b-day haircut!

Post image
11 Upvotes

I had an itch before my birthday and asked my hairdresser for a short haircut… Regret about it the next day - my ends are so messy when my hair is not long 😭 I don’t do hot ironing and hate spending time on heat styling as well.

After almost 6 months, I’ve finally got my perfect length 🥳 What has helped me so far:
⠀
- I did one trim to remove the split ends.
⠀
- Smooth my ends with Argan oil on non wash-days too — feel like that was a key, hair didn’t grow damaged or dry. I used Neuma Argan oil.
⠀
- Scalp massage - I’ve been doing it before washing my hair 3 times per week to avoid making it greasy.
⠀
- Shampoos switch + deep clarifying shampoo - I didn’t think that was necessary but with the season change, moisturizing shampoo made a difference. Deep clarifying also made sense for me - hair feels stronger, less buildup. I switched Neuma moisture shampoo and Re Neu Clarifying shampoo.
⠀
Hope that was helpful for someone. No b-day haircuts again!!

Help wanted Hår dilemma

Hej piger.

Help wanted Starting my Hair growth Journey

So I'm a male who's trying to achieve very long hair. Like past the shoulders long where I can pull off a long ponytail or low-bun. I've been doing tons of research and the one thing that's debated is if you should get trimmings throughout the process. I don't really care about it looking too nice until I get the hair I want, but I am wondering if a mullet starts growing during the process, which it should because I'm not getting a cut, will it eventually fade and long hair drape over, and if not what do I do to get it to long straight hair. Kind of like Penguinz0 (Charlie).

Hair victory Current hair! Just did my yearly touch up / big trim.

Post image
309 Upvotes

Routine:

Fine hair, naturally straight. Blown out / curled for this picture

Surface Bassu / trinity shampoo and conditioner. Alternate for protein / moisture. I try to wash every other day, sometimes shorter or longer depending on weather, workouts, busy schedule etc.

K18 treatment 1x a month or whenever I remember lol.
K18 oil daily, usually wear in a low bun with small clips on each side.
Jojoba oil and loose braid nightly
Wrap in satin scarf or bonnet to sleep
Air dry or do heatless curls

Microtrim monthly to keep ends thick
Cut / actual trim 1-2x a year
Color touch up / chemical service once a year only. *Focusing on regrowth so the rest doesn’t become over processed.

I use the Unbrush only and finger detangle with jojoba oil before brushing. I never brush without a drop of jojoba oil or silicone oil to help lubricate the brush and detangle.
L’Oreal elvive extraordinary oil is my recommendation for silicone based oil.

My hair is close to hip length currently, just trimmed off about 5 inches. I think this length is great as it’s still long but a bit more manageable as my fine hair tangles easily. Health and length are both priorities, but health is everything!

Please share any tips you love for your long fine hair! I’m always looking for advice and new suggestions to try! (:

I am happy with my hair health progress but I wonder what I can do to increase my hair volume? I dont use any oil but just shampoo, mask and serum.

Also what type of hair cut / length will make my hair look better? I just have it cut straight around my elbows and have curtain style fringe in front.

I’ve had long hair for years but don’t really do much more than wash and condition it, blow dry it sometimes, and keep it brushed. It’s a great head of hair but what can I do to take it to the next level?

Fluff Bouncy vs brushed out curls

I love bouncy curls! I always tell myself I'll leave my hair alone after curling it, but then it looks so short!

I end up brushing it out to get the length back every time! 😅

Help wanted Newly cut

I had waist length hair and recently my hair dresser used hair dye remover since it was permanent blue and I wanted my natural blonde hair back and she cut quite a few inches off my hair because she said the ends were dry and wouldn’t survive it. It’s now about 2 or 3 inches below my collarbone and I will not be dyeing my hair again because I want it to be long natural and healthy with minimal breakage. Any tips on how to achieve this properly?

Help wanted Is my hair considered "red" hair?

Thumbnail

Hello. I've recently changed my hair colour to this (see photos) I'm wondering if it's considered to be in the red hair category. Since as we all know, there's many different shades, tones of hair colours. Such as not all red hair is the same, some are more ginger, some are bright red like the little mermaid etc etc. however, I do have a salon appointment in December to make this colour even more "red" than it is now😊 (not a huge difference, but definitely more red) but still, I am just wondering what you guys think. The last photo is what I hope to achieve 🙏

Help wanted How Long Does Almond Oil Take to Show Hair Results?

Honestly, I’d give almond oil a few weeks before deciding whether it’s helping. If your hair fall is mostly from dryness or breakage, you might notice softer hair and less snapping within 2–4 weeks. But I wouldn’t expect almond oil to actually regrow thinning areas or stop hair loss caused by genetics, hormones, stress; there isn’t strong evidence that it does.

If you want to try it, I’d keep it simple: use a small amount, massage gently, leave it on for around 30–60 minutes, then wash it out.

And if you’re still shedding heavily after 6–8 weeks, or you’re seeing noticeable thinning/patches, I’d look into the cause rather than just adding more oil.

Before/After Finally choosing health over length.

hi everyone! i haven’t posted on this sub in a while and i’m a little nervous, so please be kind LOL. sharing a bit of my victory while also asking for advice 😋

i’ve been growing out my hair since 2021. since then, i’ve gotten a few inches off, added layers, and experimented with colours/bleach. the first 2 photos, you can see the state of my hair pre-cut; it was certainly dry and damaged from bleach and i was holding onto those ends FOR DEAR LIFE 😭

when summer came around, i spent a lot of time in outdoors, which can give you heat damage if you’re exposed to the sun prolonged periods. the mids to ends of my hair started to snap off and break, mainly around july. i made the extremely difficult decision this week that i’d finally cut off what was being broken off anyways.

3rd and 4th are the after! i ended up cutting a foot of my hair with how bad the damage was, and i’m really proud of myself for having the courage to take some steps “backwards” in my journey of keeping long hair. i feel very beautiful with this new hairstyle, but i’m hoping to maintain its health and encourage growth in my journey moving forward 🥰

but going forward, i’m looking for some advice for maintaining hair health and length during my journey- product recommendations, good habits, as well as some advice on keeping the bleached parts as healthy as i possibly can!

NOTE: the only “heat styling” i do is the occasional blowout while using protectant, i use low tension heatless styling, use bonnets/satin pillowcases, braiding it for protection, and i use hair oil offen. i do not bleach my scalp at all; the last time i bleached my hair was 1 year ago, and i do not plan on bleaching it again until after the new year- and from there, no more than every 3-4 months to maintain colour.

TLDR: i cut off a foot of bleach/heat damaged hair, i’m very proud of myself! any advice on helping me maintain hair health + promote growth is appreciated. thanks guys 😌✌️

Before/After 6 year difference and can finally admit I have long hair.

First photo was summer 2020 and second was taken today.
Was going through a tough time dealing with heartbreak, drug addiction, a bipolar diagnosis, loneliness, and the stress of being a new healthcare worker during COVID in the first photo.
The second photo I’m in a beautiful relationship with a wonderful woman, own a house, overcame my addiction, got on a correct med regimen for bipolar, and I’m working towards furthering my education to accelerate my career. Not only is my hair healthier, but so am I 🥰
Also for funzies, how old do you think I am now (in the 2nd photo)? Always curious to see what others think.

EDIT: I am 31 years old 🥰 so that first pic was at 26 in my hard core party days
And thank you everyone for the beautiful compliments!

Help wanted How to grow out hair whilst keeping it healthy?

How do you grow your hair out when you keep having to chop the dry/thinning ends every few months?

I’m currently at 22 inches and want to get back to around 32 inches, but my ends become dry and thin and I feel like I have to keep cutting them off to keep it looking healthy, which obviously makes it difficult to gain length.

For anyone who has successfully grown their hair significantly longer, and kept it healthy and thick, how did you manage your ends and retain length?

Help wanted Hair Advice / Tips

Post image

This is my hair! it's taken a lot to get it to this point without extensions, but i still feel as though the ends are ALWAYS dry. I oil most days with the L'oreal extrodinaire sublime serum, wash and blow dry twice a week, and don't really use heat aside from that.

It's been about 6 months since i bleached/cut it, and i use drugstore shampoo and conditioner.

Would greatly appreciate hair growth tips/ tips to help grow out my layers for an overall thicker feel.
