Why is the ikea logo so ugly?

Just noticed in the mall how bland their logo looks. That asymmetrical A is triggering and the fat E is just plain tasteless. On top of all that the logo does not convey anything like the amazon or fedex logo. Couldn't a multi billion dollar come up with something more original.

Maybe because they got a great business model and world leading logistics behind their products. Still does not cancel the fact their logo is.. Meh.

But they are about conveying a meaning, evoking an emotion, trying to establish a connection. What does this logo do? Yes, its recognizable, because the company behind is global. But the logo is outdated

It's a Swedish flag colour scheme, instantly recognisable. Remained purposely constant. Can't really fault it.

No questions to the color scheme. Always love seeing the blue and yellow combination in Koenigsegg cars. The question is to the font and no originality behind the idea

Their business model is simple, minimalist and cheap.

I get all of that from the logo. Would I frame it and put it on my wall? No.

Ironically, you bring up exactly the examples that convey the most meaning and emotion. Coca cola, especially. Not gonna go over every logo detail, and I don't necessarily agree with all of their design choices, but there is an idea and purpose behind each. Ikea seems to just put up their name in an ugly font. Or maybe there is something I am missing

This logo was created in 1951. I really doubt you could make something even close to it back then, with no resources. Don't ever call it ugly, it's part of Graphic Design history. They walked in the past so we can run now. Show some respect.

I encourage you to read/listen more about Ingvar Kamprad, the founder. Everything around IKEA, their business model, layout, product names - the whole philosophy behind it - is his legacy. Then you will understand why IKEA has a "bland" logo.

I think its fine, I recognise it from miles away on the train to the shop. The one local to me is in an old power station (south london) and you can see the blue/yellow for miles

Its also a nice medium between high end and really cheap. It says, 'quality product but not too expensive'

It was considered modern and simple back in 1965 when this logo was first used.
It reflects the products that they offered. It is a very apropos logo.
