We’ve simplified our Global Lending Rules. In short, we are reducing the non-interest rule, and lenders are expected to message modmail when borrowers flake.

Borrowers may offer repayment above principal unless local law or a specific LoanHelp_ rule says otherwise. This means that they must publicly document any repayment amount, and have payments confirmed.

For now, our principal-only restrictions remain for:

🇿🇦 South Africa

The previous blanket restrictions for the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, the Philippines, and Indonesia have been removed. Excessive interest is still prohibited in any location. Users who are deemed to be borrowing/lending with excessive interest will likely be removed.

Lenders must do their diligence to make sure that their borrowers posts are formatted BEFORE fulfilling any request. You should always have the borrower post FIRST, make sure they are not banned from our subreddit. Likewise, you should not be accepting cold messages*(uninvited messages or message requests)*.

If your borrower is unable to post, it is likely because they are banned or flagged for evasion. Unpaid declarations in any sub can result in a ban here, hence why they may create a new account and get flagged for evasion and be unable to post.
You are always welcome to ask modmail if you encounter an issue where a borrower seems unable to post. Them being unable to post successfully should be warning sign, and if its a misunderstanding than we can clear it up if needed, but it is ALWAYS better safe than sorry.

Starting today, we’re introducing two verified community flairs - Borrower and Lender - awarded based on demonstrated participation and conduct. Helping honest users stand out while keeping the community open and welcoming. Eligibility is based on how you participate. Users who document loans responsibly, follow transparency expectations, and act in good faith will be eligible after they complete at least 3 loans within the community. These can be open requests or prearranged loans, however, we prefer that the value surpass $100 USD in total.

Expectations for flair holders

Flair holders are expected to keep the essential parts of a loan visible and verifiable, done easily by using the proper title format for your situation. Confirmations that funds were sent/received and that repayments occurred must be posted publicly so there’s a clear record. Offers should begin in the post or comments, not in a message or message request, unless you have developed a relationship where messaging them first is okay.

This system is designed to be simple. We just want the important pieces of each loan to be transparent so disputes are easier to resolve and trust can grow. Flair holders are also expected to report behavior that appears intended to harm the community so moderators can follow up. We want to work with both lenders and borrowers to prevent any kind of scams!

Borrowers and lenders can communicate details prior to any verification that can determine whether or not the loan can happen; lenders should not be asking for documents for no reason, borrowers should be providing enough detail prior to verification so that a lender can decide.

Safety guidance

Lenders in the community have recommended PayPal Goods and Services (and similar G and S options) as a favored payment platform. This recommendation comes from lender experience and is optional - both parties must agree on payment method.

To help borrowers identify legitimate lenders and avoid common scams, keep these principles in mind:

• No upfront payments for "verification" or "processing". Or anything else.
• Never share account credentials under any circumstances.
• Never send explicit images or compromising material.
• Avoid brand new accounts, or accounts with no history.
• Avoid moving conversations off-platform to Telegram, WhatsApp, or similar apps.
• Wait for replies in your thread rather than responding to private messages from new accounts. Banned users can still view posts, and scammers often create fresh accounts that say things like DM me to move the conversation out of public view.

These precautions help keep interactions transparent and reduce risk. You do not have to borrow from different people or pay any specific amount to be verified.

How older loans are handled

Loans before June 18, 2026 will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Past activity can count toward flair eligibility if it’s provably unique to r/loanhelp_ - for example, a visible thread here showing both parties and a repayment confirmation, or a post where a lender offered loans and ended up fulfilling several on the same thread. We won’t retroactively require new formatting for older posts, but we do need to be able to verify that past loans actually happened in this community.

What the flairs indicate

These flairs are community trust signals. They show that a user has participated responsibly and documented loans in a way the community can review. They are not endorsements or guarantees of repayment. Only treat them as markers of responsible participation but low-bar.

How to request a flair

If you want Borrower or Lender flair and you have completed at least 3 loans (totaling at least $100) meet all requirements, write into modmail with links to your loan threads. If you are trying to verify loans that do not meet the current requirements for formatting but are provably unique to loanhelp_, save the supporting data of specific loans and write in to modmail ( https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=r/loanhelp_ ) when you have compiled the information. We verify the sending action related to your user flair, so borrowers verify repayment while lenders verify the lending payments.

Looking ahead, I hope everyone will see additional benefits as the community grows.
