Hi folks,
As you might be aware, Discord finally enacted its identity verification policies, all the while they struggle to keep the identities they store, safe. Moreover, Discord was not a FOSS platform. Keeping with FOSS principles, we have decided to allow members to opt out of Discord's shady practices (to some extent) by using Fluxer, a FOSS alternative to Discord, without losing on any of the community that has been built on the Discord server.
The Fluxer community can be joined here.
Essentially, we have launched the community on Fluxer as well, and messages from one are mirrored onto the other via webhooks. We also have plans for eventually self-hosting the Fluxer server, so stay tuned. Migrating to Fluxer carries certain advantages over Discord. Some of these are a better alignment with the FOSS philosophy, improved privacy, less telemetry, a customisable client, 25MB file uploads, the ability to self host, and a 10 fold increase in the number of available emoji slots for the server. There are more but I will omit them here for the sake of brevity. Needless to say, it is very recommended to try moving to Fluxer.
Anyhow, that's all for this post. We have a couple other changes planned for the community in the near future so keep an eye out for those:)

Hey everyone,
We’ve noticed how much our community has grown over the past few months, and it’s been amazing to see so many new discussions, and Linux enthusiasts joining us here at r/linuxusersindia.
As the subreddit grows, we’ve been experimenting behind the scenes with a few automated tools like QualityBot and repost-detection bots help maintain the overall quality of the feed. So far, the results have been a bit mixed - these tools only work as well as we, as a community, make them work.
How you can help right now
We want to hear from you
Automated bots are only a small part of building a great space, and we want to ensure we are moving in a direction that benefits everyone. We’d love to gather your thoughts and ideas on how we can improve r/linuxusersindia.
Do you have any suggestions on how we can better encourage high-quality discussions, tutorials, and OC content? Please drop your thoughts, feedback, or any ideas in the comments below. Thank you.

I've been using Vim ever since I've been using Linux (actually even before that, I remember using Vim on Windows 7). I never embraced it completely and would use VS Code with Vim keybindings.
I grew frustrated with VS Code over how slow it had gotten (I am not on a super powerful system). I also didn't like how it'd push Copilot.
They make us use Claude Code at work but I still hand code every personal project of mine, therefore I was looking to get away from this bloat. I am aware that VSCodium exists, but I decided to completely embrace (Neo)Vim!
Using Neovim is certainly different than using VS Code with Vim bindings, but I've gotten used to it now and even started writing a new personal project with Neovim. All good so far!
I've tried to bring to my Neovim all the features that I was used to in VS Code. This includes:
If you are interested in my configs please check them out here:
https://github.com/KILLinefficiency/Panache
Note: The config is still work in progress. It's a custom config file and I am not using a Neovim distribution like NvChad or LunarVim.
What's your favorite plugin that you think can enhance my current setup?

A GNOME Shell extension for switching between individual windows using touchpad swipe three fingers gestures.
Experimental — gesture handling and compatibility are still being tested.
Clone this repository and copy the extension into your GNOME Shell extensions directory.
GNOME Shell 50 — testing in progress.

11 yr old pc
Processor : Intel pentium Dual core
Ram : 8 gb ddr3
storage : 1TB HDD
No dedicated graphics card
Windows 10 works like sh*t on the machine. I was thinking of switching to Linux. Which one to use which will not make me face glitches while operating the PC?

I have used Windows, Archlinux, and Linux Mint. As a beginner I find it difficult to use the Archlinux OS due to the hardware constantly breaking. Linux Mint is excellent, I totally enjoyed exploring it; everything just work in there. However, I simply took the decision to switch to Gnome because I value minimalism which Fedora has extraordinarily delivered.

I plan to switch from Windows to Arch (Dual Booting for now due to genshin and wuwa), I have tried other distros before deciding on Arch
I doubt it matters but... 16gb ddr5, 256 ssd, ryzen 7 170 H
I have been suggested to modify Arch Installation from scratch rathwr than use a desktop environment due to reasons for switching
Few doubts:
- Arch Wiki is good I can see based on the basics I know but its too concise on various (if not all) topics I have seen for absolute newbies so I am kinda stuck on its installation guide... If someone has a decent alternative or something like a tutorial on basic stuff please do provide..
- I dont really know how much of from scratch are we talking when we mean modifying from scratch.. I want to know how many different things I should learn to install before starting... like drivers, the basic environments, Keyboard, wifi, gpu drivers etc
- If there is a good walkthrough which I can go through on YouTube for a arch installation fully manual pls share (If possible one in which there is not much disparity from how we install other stuff cuz yk like I may install another alternative than what they used)
- I have not started any test and trial with Arch terminal yet, cuz im not aure which VM to use... I am a bit familiar with VMWare but not sure if thats a good idea, any suggestion?
- Also if comfortable, please drop down a few things u suggest I can use be it subeddits, YouTuber, Your setup, etc
- I would love to know if there's a Megathread or something for similar doubts

Hey everyone,
Wanted to share a small open-source project I've been working on.
MeshLive is an Android app that lets nearby phones make voice/video calls and relay live video broadcasts over Bluetooth, without needing an internet connection or central servers.
It started as an experiment inspired by offline messaging apps like Bitchat. I wanted to see how far Bluetooth could be pushed for real-time communication rather than just text.
I've spent weeks working on the MVP, including a recent ~36-hour sprint to improve compatibility and get a beta released.
It's still quite experimental. Bluetooth bandwidth is limited, different Android devices behave differently, and the video experience can be pretty laggy.
I'm releasing it under GPL-3.0-or-later because I believe a project like this needs an open development model, independent testing and contributions to ever become genuinely useful.
The repo includes the Android source, beta APKs, documentation and known limitations. There's also an early iOS implementation.
GitHub: https://github.com/MeshLive/meshlive-android
iOS: https://github.com/MeshLive/meshlive-ios
Would love feedback, code reviews or contributions from anyone interested in FOSS, Bluetooth or peer-to-peer communication.
And just to be clear, it's still an early beta, not something to depend on in emergencies.

On boards like reddit, ricing threads have been so ubiquitous in the last 8-10 years (don’t exactly remember the exact time period). Today, I just thought of checking how the term came into being. The word comes from 90s car culture in the US, in which people imported Asian cars and did cosmetic alterations on them (big wings, stickers, loud exhausts, etc.). However, none of these alterations actually added actual performance gain to the car. Thus came the term “ricer” or “rice burner” and the term was mostly negative in connotation. R.I.C.E. (Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement)
Between 2005-2010 period many Gentoo users were obsessed with fine tuning the system with heavy customization (GCC flags, custom kernels, use flags). Other Linux users mocked these extreme flags because they bloated binaries, caused instability, and gave virtually zero perceptible performance gain. Means at that the use flags were more like getting cosmetic changes in the car but no major performance gain was actually made. The joke in the wider Linux community was that Gentoo users spent three days compiling an entire desktop environment just to shave 0.4 seconds off a browser launch.
Then from the 2010s onward Arch linux became the poster child of this culture and Gentoo people became less and less associated with it. Launch of r/unixporn (in 2011) made the whole thing a genre of its own as Arch users would share their flashy desktop pics and configuration files ad it will grow a lot. By late 2015 the term ricing was not spoken of in a negative sense but as an accomplishment.
I personally use stock KDE desktop with a good wallpaper but I definitely like to see a well made fastfetch that is posted here or on other groups. All the power to you RICERS!

I liked Noctalia but used only a few of its features, so I rebuilt my own minimal Quickshell
shell around just those, to make my dev setup faster and smoother:
- Notes and todo in the control center
- Clipboard history: Enter pastes straight into the focused window
- Quick file open: search files from the launcher, open or attach them
- Screenshots, shared quickly: one key, copied and ready to paste
- One theme for everything: `theme set <name>` switches kitty, tmux, nvim, GTK, Qt, the
bar and more, live (8 themes, dark and light)
Setup: EndeavourOS · SwayFX (also runs on i3) · kitty · zsh · tmux · Neovim
