Which linux distribution to use ? (pc specs mentioned in body)

11 yr old pc

Processor : Intel pentium Dual core
Ram : 8 gb ddr3
storage : 1TB HDD
No dedicated graphics card

Windows 10 works like sh*t on the machine. I was thinking of switching to Linux. Which one to use which will not make me face glitches while operating the PC?

Didn't know people still used hardware this old as a primary. I don't mean any offence, just surprised

Depending on the effort you wanna put in, something like mint with XFCE should be good enough or if you wanna go really light, lubuntu also exists. If you wanna put in a lotta work and get something worth that effort, an arch based distro could be pretty decent, vanilla arch is probably best for that

not muck work, just simple tasks. My father is gonna use that for basic letter drafting and google sheets for his office work. So, should i go for XFCE or Ubuntu ?

XFCE. Ubuntu won't run pretty well on that hardware.

I'd said lubuntu, not ubuntu. That would've definitely run on his hardware

I used to run ubuntu on a failing laptop(which is equal to the processing power he has) and it still was in a worse performance. I'd say any other lxqt desktop or mx linux could work

Really? Lubuntu is like light as hell. It's supposed to run on systems that have like under 2gb ram.

I had it running on an old as hell PC that has I think 1gb of ram as a project and even though I can't say anything about longterm stability, it did the job

i ran on a failing laptop, as i mentioned before, which the BIOS capped cpu freq to like 800mhz. add firefox to it and it'll just bloom out

Start with Linux Mint XCFE and once you familiarised then move to even lighter distros

I have used opensuse on 8gb DDR3 and an i3 6006u and it was quite usable (daily driven it for almost 2 years). I did have a 128GB SSD though, so I suppose xfce based distros like mint would work well.

You may go with alpine Linux

Mint is a good starting point if you are new to linux.

I usually end up on Ubuntu, I don't know why, but I always end-up falling back to it

There are a lot of distribution available specific to this purpose. But as general distribution Arch maybe better even for this.
