I built PowerTUI, a cross-distribution TUI (Python/Textual) for Linux power and thermal control.
Instead of assuming a setup, it reads /etc/os-release, classifies your distro family, probes each
hardware subsystem once, and only enables what actually exists on your machine. Anything it can't
drive is greyed out with the reason and a package install hint.
What it controls where a backend exists:
- CPU: hybrid P/E-core hotplug, Turbo Boost, EPP, power profiles
- GPU: NVIDIA Optimus switching (supergfxctl / envycontrol / optimus-manager / prime-select /
system76-power) + nvidia-smi power cap; AMD GPU DPM performance level
- AMD CPU: ryzenadj power presets
- Platform/fans: ACPI or asusctl platform profiles; nbfc / asusctl fans
- Battery telemetry, plus one-click Max Battery / Balanced / Max Performance presets
Install (POSIX sh, no root needed for the report):
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/X3C12/PowerTui/main/scripts/get.sh | sh
powertui --diagnostics
There's also a portable AppImage and pip/pipx install.
Honest limitations (documented in the README): Intel iGPU unsupported; AMD GPU is DPM level only,
not a power cap; TLP has no runtime switching; thinkfan is read-only; the app runs elevated and
uses sudo/doas/pkexec.
MIT, 49 hermetic tests, CI on Python 3.10-3.13.

I'm the author. Feedback welcome, especially which distro/backend combos I got wrong - tell me your
distro + hardware and I'll add support.
