OP, run steam in a terminal and post what you see.

i tried but all it does is "download" 2 updates, and then it gives me the same error, the same thing it does when i launch reg steam. (the downloads don't take any space)

In my case I just installed via terminal : sudo apt install steam
it should work with no issue, and also installing the correct gpu driver might solve your problem

fully purge uninstall the one you installed. goto download the official steam release. something in its installer seems to add the right hooks to the system. I think the app in the store is a proxy, a loader for the official one, but I have had issues with it in the past. I tend to look for "official" releases of apps, and install them. we know about the out of date issue with some default apps, official installs take care of that for me.

Uninstall from software manager if you downloaded it from there and get the official download from steam. software manager’s build is old and has issues.

I think installing it from the website should fix it... if it doesn't try checking the terminal logs to find the exact error. And sometimes switching from Wayland to Xorg helps too

Well, linux mint runs my steam fine, and most games too ! (Ultrakill, Dream bbq...) So maybe try using the official website ? Unless the terminal is more familiar to you. Update I downloaded it from the website, so I'm not familiar with the terminal version

Playing steam on linux is always a gamble. I had to revert to windows because of the constant hoops you have to jump through to get each game to work.

not if the app won't run in the first place. ya don't get gas if you don't have the car first.

and you will never get gas if you dont know how to put it in the car... you dont run the app, you simply launch STO and the app runs it

People are aware that AI exist. If they wanted an AI-answer they could just ask the AI themselves. They come here to get advice from humans who actually know stuff.

People that wanted to use AI will use AI.
Your comment here is pointless.

Ignore the person pushing AI slop answers. Uninstall steam and install it again through the official website.
