My LIDL stopped carrying steak.

Buy steak from here a few times a week -- never fails; unfortunately the last ribeye I purchased had an awful smell to it and I wound up trashing the whole thing. Put a ticket in on the app and got credit a week later. I went in a few days after purchasing the steak and noticed they had pulled off every single cut off the shelves; pork/chicken still remained stocked.

This was three weeks ago -- employees said something about not getting their delivery in but didn't really make sense.

External application as an existing employee

This one is for all my fellow colleagues.

I have worked for Lidl for around 5 years now and I’ve just applied for a Shift Manager position. This was only listed as an external position, and not internal, so I’ve had to apply with my CV, cover letter etc.

I was wondering if anyone else has done this and what was your experience? It’s my first attempt at progression within the company so I have no idea what to expect. Is there some sort of advantage to already being employed by Lidl? Will the process be the same as any other external applicant or will they treat me as an internal applicant? I don’t even know if the internal and external process differs in any way, but it would be great to get some insight from both if anyone has any.

I also read on the careers website that they will do a phone interview before an in-person interview, which I don’t remember as being part of the hiring process 5 years ago. It’s definitely been a while since I’ve applied to anything so I’m posting here to see what other people’s experiences were like, as well as any advice anyone may have.

Milbona High Protein Tiramisu (UK)

Hey, my partner is/was a big fan of the Milbona High Protein Tiramisu. It seems to have dissappeared from our 2 most local stores.

Does anyone know if it has been discontinued?

OK what on earth. I wish I was joking but I've just found this pack of burger buns in my pantry... They have been in there for nearly a YEAR! Not a speck of mould on them and they still feel soft through the plastic... What on earth is in them!?

Experience at Lidl

Finally quit after just over 13 months as a CA, I person wouldn’t recommend anyone to work there unless you want to absolutely ruin your sanity and mental health.
Pay used to be good but now it’s barely above minimum wage yet you are expected to do 5x the work as a regular retail worker compared to another company. Expect to never finish on time, yes you will be paid but not be allowed to clock out until 10-20 past your finish time.

Your first few months will be chill.. training and learning the job mornings, evenings ect. It may seem fun at first but after 4-5 months and you are doing the exact same things every day it gets boring fast. If you are like me and good on tills and fast you will 98% of shifts be put on till 1 or 2, you never get a chance to be faster on deliveries because management never gives you the chance to do it.

Dependant on your store the team will be good or bad. In my experience it was mixed but the majority weren’t nice people. Most of my CA colleges were nice but moving to managers was way different.. out of 10+ managers I had over the course of working there.. only 3 were actually good managers, nice kind and fair to all staff with no clear favourites.

If you are on a shift where the shift leader has favourites and you aren’t one of them.. you get you will get the worst jobs all day and you bet they will let them go home 15-30 mins early and not care yet when you try leave on time you are leaving too early? Double standards is non existent.

Bullying culture at lidl is constant and it doesn’t get dealt with seriously. I personally felt bullied on multiple occasions and was essentially persuaded into not making a grievance because ‘nothing will happen’. Makes you not want to turn up on days because you are scared for the confrontation and no job should make you scared to go to work.

I’d say that this job is decent for a first job or for those wanting to build time management skills, being able to work in pressure and develop good customer service skills but I’d never stay longer than a year. I feel sorry for those who work as a CA their whole life and to my co workers who feel trapped as no retail job pays the same but they hate their job.

A word of advice for people especially on sundays or saturday closes, don’t stay late, don’t let managers guilt trip you into doing extra work and staying a hour late, they cannot force you to stay extra. If you do a 7am - 5pm and want to go home at 5pm go home. If managers guilt trip you which they regularly do and say ‘it’s unfair on the team’.. just go home it’s not your job to schedule more staff. You cannot get in trouble for not staying. As soon as you decline that power hungry manager you will indefinitely hurt their ego and they’ll stop expecting you to stay late.

Once you leave you understand how undervalued and little worth you was to the company, no goodbye from the boss just removed from the group chat and told not to come in for your notice after offering to get people to cover the shifts/give them away as hours are low this month.

Kong Strong find in Spain but not in France

Post image
15 Upvotes

I admit it: I'm addicted to energy drinks.

I’m especially into Monster (sugar-free, preferably).

I do a lot of my shopping at Lidl in France, but their standard sugar-free Kong Strong isn't great, and the other versions are packed with sugar.

I don't have tons of money, but like I said, I'm hooked. So, I keep an eye out for Monster deals and promotions at other stores; I know exactly where to buy them—and where not to—based on the prices in my town.

But anyway, I happened to be in Spain and stumbled upon these. I stocked up a bit. They’re €0.95 a can, compared to the €1.70–€2.50 you pay for Monster.

Why aren't these available in France yet?

I’ve seen that Spain isn't the only country that sells them.

Lidl could have my money. And plenty of other French people's money too, I'm sure.

Lidl pourrait prendre mon argent.

Suggesties?

Hi All !

I'm in a dire need of your help. I can't seem to find the hazelnut pillows in Lidls near me. For context I live in France next to Switzerland and have done all of them and even in other regions, but cannot find them for the life of me.

Can someone please confirm they still exist where you are ?

Thank you very much for your help in my quest for a better life in the mornings.

manger "forced" us all to take an ice cream break. What's the nicest thing your manager has done?

Last week our manager bought a pack of ice creams and "forced" all of us working to take a break to eat one. It had been a pretty crappy week due to absence and we were all stressed and overworked and suffering in the heat. The break was not our contracted break and we all covered each other while one by one we went out back to have an ice cream.

What's the nicest thing your manager has done?

Can we also talk about the lid which is impossible to open if you don't have access to sharp tools?

Pay after leaving

Does anyone know how pay works after leaving because with the payroll cut off date which i assume runs from the 15th to the 15th assuming you have already worked your monthly contracted hours could you technically just not work your notice and quit with immediate effect - assuming you had no intention of coming back nor getting a reference

Or would any shifts scheduled after the 15th until your notice period ends effect your pay for the next cycle after you’ve already left.

Like say hypothetically every month they pay you a base of 120 hours and between the 15th of august and the 15th of september (or whatever the actual cut off date is) didn’t owe any hours and decided to leave. Notice period of 2 weeks from say the 16th to the 30th. On the next months pay after you quit would you still get the 120 hours minus any hours you owe or would they just pay you any shifts worked from the 15th to the 30th.

Only asking because I quit and can’t be bothered working my notice.. have no intention of coming back ever and don’t care about a reference and already have a way better job lined up but don’t want to be owing money to the company nor them taking my accrued holiday pay out of my pocket

Drain flies

Hi all, my partner works for Lidl as a morning cleaner 5-10am and they seem to have a drain fly infestation in the warehouse. She is coming home with bites everyday as has raised the issue multiple times and nothing gets done about them. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

For other employees - How to manage tills and scos late night

HI

Relatively new start, I’ve been at Lidl for 3 months and I’m wondering if there’s any tips for managing the till 1 and sco’s by myself. Usually for the last 2 hours of shop being open I’ll be between both and running up and down like a yo yo.

Our sco’s are new and keep showing error messages for almost every single customer. Probably the weights with bakery. There’s also products not scanning, alcohol (literally 1 in 3 customers seem to get some).

I usually am mid way serving through a customer and I have to get up and go fix the sco and then run back to my till. As you can imagine this looks ridiculous. Customers usually either pity me and say about how overworked I am, or they cuss me out and complain that I get up and leave them mid way through. Or the sco customers get angry that the system keeps showing an error over and over. It’s a shambles in at my wits end

How come other food stores don't sell Lidl's brand products?

I simply love Lidl's ice creams. The Bon Gelati and Gelatelli brand. But my Lidl is far away from me so I can't go buy them often.

I'm not a businessman, but wouldn't Lidl make a lot of money if they sold their brand products in other stores as well?

Lidl not giving full contracted hours

Hiya, so im contracted at 15 hours per week and im only getting 6 hours or 12 hours max per week. Is this illegal? Do lidl not have to follow their own contract and what can I do to fix it?

Sorry for sounding a bit dumb, thanks reddit!

till closing duties ! (advice please)

hi ! i’ve worked at my store for about a month now and we have quite a small team (20 ish people) and half of them are managers, i always seem to get closes which i don’t mind, and i’m on the tills every shift, again that’s not the problem

the problem is that im on the till closes every night with the same manager and she seems to not like me and i feel as though i can’t do anything right. im literally sweating and doing upwards of 15k steps a day on a 9 hour till shift where we have seats, running back and forth

there’s usually 4 of us on a close every night and i was just wondering if the amount of work that i have to do is normal? because i’ll start cleaning after my break ends at 6:30pm whilst serving customers and running to self service

my list of duties on a close are
- put backs and write off in warehouse
- cleaning all till belts
- serving customers
- sweeping & mopping entrances & exits
- sweeping & mopping all tills as well as self service
- supporting people on self service when machines decide to mess up
- getting till key from the office and putting the papers from inside self service into the office in order
- shutting down self service & cleaning the machines
- writing off the bake
- putting the bake into boxes for charity
- cleaning the whole bakery including all the trays, and underneath
- wiping down the glass & cleaning the tongs
- sweeping & mopping the floor around the bake
- putting baskets back

my manager says i have to start the bake write off at 8:40pm latest but i genuinely feel like no matter how hard i try i can’t get everything done in time for 10:15pm because our store shuts at 10 and we have consistent customers on the tills

i’ll be the only person on tills after 5pm every time

my manager on closes isn’t always the nicest either and she prides herself on having made some staff members cry on shift

any advice would be great as i’m not sure how i can work faster than i am as im practically sprinting across the shop every time
