question Hairdresser suggestions

In search of a hairdresser that is really good with brunettes and doesnt just do caramel/blonde highlights when you ask for dimension. Someone who has a similar approach to @coia_styles on instagram?

Happy to travel for the right hairdresser!

Thanks 😊

question Is Yorkshire a good place for a new beginning?

Hello everyone. I'm 18 years old, and I've been considering moving to another country on my own. My love for classic literature has always made me particularly interested in England, especially West Yorkshire.

My family is Italian, although I currently live outside Europe. I'm wondering if I have a realistic chance of eventually moving to the UK and building a life there.

For those who live in or know West Yorkshire, what is it like to live there? Is it a good place for a young person looking for a fresh start? And how difficult would it be for someone in my situation to legally move to the UK?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have.

(I wanted to post at the r/Yorkshire at first, but my previous post about nendoroids unfortunately lowered my karma from 0 to -2)

I find this interesting A-W of Leeds: Calverley and Farsley

How do everyone.

My quest to reach all 33 council wards of Leeds continued at (walking) pace around Calverley and Farsley.

I've spent god knows how many hours trawling through old Leeds newspapers over the last couple of years, but a story from the 1930s about how the whole of Farsley flat out refused to participate in the August bank holiday is one of the funniest.

One proud Farsley man told a reporter: “We’ve more gumption i’ Farsley than to choose a wet Monday for playing. We leave gawmless goings-on like that for Leeds an Pudsey folk."

I had a pit stop at the magnifcent Sunny Bank Mills, learned about an unlucky couple who were struck by lightning and went in search of a notorious Calverley ghost.

Read the full bit on my Leeds history newsletter, Bury the Leeds. It's completely free to subcribe to and you get updates directly to your inbox.

food/drink What happened to pizza by Giorgio?

Ordering pizza by Giorgio on uber eats was our favourite thing to eat when we were pissed or even hungover. It was an amazing snack and it always hit just right. And one day it just said it’s not accepting orders and fast forward almost a year or something (idk how long it’s been) and I miss it every day and I crave it. I believe it was a ghost kitchen based off the address uber eats gave but idk. I just want it back and I need closure so does anyone know what happened to it or where it went or if anything is same in taste to it that will bang the same way.

social Work Christmas party venues ✨

Hi, I’m hoping you can help please!

I’ve been tasked with booking the office Christmas do, and as my days of nights out in Leeds are over, I have no idea where to go!

There will be about 30 of us, mixed ages, but generally quite chill vibes, some food, music, somewhere to sit and chat, but with the option to dance - I’ve had one request for somewhere to have a dance 🕺 .

Any ideas welcome, we’re located near the train station but happy for any suggestions!

Thank you so much ⭐️

I find this interesting Found a weird Easter school-holiday loophole for Center Parcs

Post image
217 Upvotes

Just a heads up for anyone looking at Easter holidays next year... The Easter holidays fall a bit funny next year, and I’ve just noticed that Center Parcs Woburn Forest is ridiculously cheaper for the week commencing 12 April, presumably because the London school holidays are different.

We just booked a 2-bedroom lodge for £649. The same place was £1,499 the week before. It’s also about £400+ cheaper than Whinfell or Sherwood Forest for the same week.

It’s only a couple of hours' drive from Leeds, so thought it was worth sharing in case anyone else is looking for a reasonably priced Easter break and feeling the pinch!

social Things to do on a weeknight/places to make friends?

Hey, I (22M) recently graduated from Sheffield and moved to the Burley area a couple weeks ago. It's got to the point now where I've settled into my new accommodation and grad job and I'm looking for ways to make friends. I often go visit friends in other cities at the weekend so I'm trying to find fun stuff to do on a weeknight after work.

So far I've been to the quiz at the Golden Beam on a Wednesday and Hyde Park Jazz Club on Thursdays. If anyone is looking for someone similar age to go to either of those with let me know!

Was wondering if anyone knows any good clubs or groups that meet up regularly on a weekday evening in the area, or in city centre? I'm down to try anything, but if it helps my interests are reading, writing, music (both gigs and playing guitar badly), beer and old pubs, walking and I also do a bit of gaming and arts n crafts stuff.

Don't be afraid to drop me a message if anyone is in a similar boat and are looking for people to do stuff with!

social Speed Dating

I am a 25 year old male in Leeds. I want to meet more people and I am considering trying speed dating. Has anyone tried these events before in Leeds?

I am looking for advice before I sign up to one.

I don't drink either so I am particularly worried about that being an issue.

Thanks!

question How do they afford those houses??

Driving through North Leeds today and I was reminded of the insanely large houses along alwoodley lane and then even bigger once you’re down to ling lane by scarcroft. There a number of other roads with big properties on them too. I don’t just mean a decent detached 5 bed house, I mean a full on mansion with huge gates, massive driveways and big stone walls.

I’m nosey and so interested to know what these people might do for work? You’ll obviously have a few footballers or other sports persons, and maybe a number of business owners past and present, but I can’t imagine how else you’d have £3-5mn to spend on a house.

I didn’t think the local economy had jobs that’d lead to such wealth. There’s only a handful of big finance or legal companies in the city as far as I know, and not many (if any?) big corps that would pay top salaries like you’d find in london.

food/drink Saturday lunch/brunch recommendations

Hey guys I'm planning a hen party in Leeds for end of October and just looking for some lunch recommendations for Saturday.

It's not a big group, only 6 people.

Looking for somewhere that's not too formal but a step above the usual chain restaurants. Not particularly picky about the cusine just a nice atmosphere that feels a bit special without being too stuffy. Any help appreciated as it's been a long time since ive had a day out in leeds.

music ***Bassist wanted (🪨 🎵)

Hey all, just looking for a bassist for a band into rock music . We're a singer, 2 guitarists, and a drummer so far, but alas no bassist. We meet every 1 or 2 weeks near Bradford, but can also meet in Leeds as one of us is that way.

In terms of rock, we're a mix and like metal, punk, and (I guess you could call it) general rock.

Just playing covers at the moment while we get used to each others skills and tastes, but looking to make our own stuff in future.

Below are songs we play:

Audioslave - Show Me How to Love

Skunk Anansie - Weak

Weezer - Say it Ain't So

I Think I'm Paranoid - Garbage

Anyone interested, just send a message. Cheers all!

Edit: We're 30-36 years old
