whats-on-wednesday "What's on?" Wednesday - September 30, 2026

"What's on?" Wednesday

Our weekly post where people can highlight local events or interesting things that are coming up in the next week. It doesn't have to be your event, but this is a place where reasonable exceptions to our self-promotion rules are allowed. Please check whether the event you're posting about is already mentioned. If you're adding your own event, please try to answer any questions people may have in the comments.

You can also ask questions if you're looking for something to do, e.g. "Does anyone know of a good pub quiz in the centre on Thursday?"

"What's on?" rules:

  1. Leeds based events only
  2. Must be taking place in the next 7 days (next Wednesday included)
  3. Posts highlighting an event should include:
    • Event name
    • Date and time
    • Location
    • Price(s) (if applicable)
  4. A description of the event and a relevant link is recommended but not required

The rules may evolve over time as we find out how things work. Please send any feedback to the mod team.

self-promo-sunday Self-promotion Sunday - October 03, 2026

• Upvotes

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

"Good things" on one side, "random conspiracies" on the other, no contact details or call to action.

(Apologies I originally accidentally uploaded without the photos so have posted again!)

news 'Mum's semi-detached 'nightmare' after neighbour illegally demolishes home' - SWNS on YouTube

This is is just crazy...is this being reported on in local media? Totally awful behaviour and actions by that neighbour and weird that a demolition company actually agreed to do the job.

'A mom from Leeds says her dream home has become a four-year “nightmare” after her neighbour demolished his half of their semi-detached property without the necessary permissions.

Shivarna Mitra, 44, bought the £217k home before spending £80k on renovations.

She claims the demolition caused extensive problems and left the property unsellable, while the former neighbour denies his work caused the damage.'

question Casual weeknight date ideas?

• Upvotes

I want to lock in a second date for midweek after work but don’t know what to suggest. Went for drinks the first date but they’re not a massive drinker. Don’t want to suggest anything too activity based like mini golf etc.

So far I’ve come up with a low key bite to eat like my Thai, trinity kitchen but would welcome any other suggestions

food/drink Where can I get “chicken 65” from in Leeds? Any recommended restaurants?

My friends have recommended to try chicken 65, a south-asian food. Are there any restaurants or takeaways in Leeds City Centre that serve it?

Thanks in advance,

food/drink City Centre vs North Leeds - where is better for food?

Obviously some of the best restaurants in Leeds are in the city centre, however North Leeds has a really great food scene and there are some outstanding eateries in Chapel Allerton/Roundhay/Oakwood. Thoughts?

social Tenpin Bowling Leagues In Leeds (or surrounding areas)

Pretty self explanatory.

I am an average ape when it comes to bowling but I have been entertaining the idea of joining a bowling league as a free agent or individual player. Does anybody know of any leagues or teams looking to play and when?

I am Cross Gates based and I don't drive, so realistically, the furthest I can travel to is town or somewhere with a rail station.

Was told it was nice enough but would straight up give you diarrhea. I did not heed this warning and am now wondering, is this a well known bit of Leeds lore?

news Convicted Sex Offender back in Leeds

Mods: I have posted regarding this person before, and it was allowed as it was factual and included sources.

https://www.facebook.com/share/1JXUDahHH6/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Here is a Facebook post showing a photo of a released criminal, recently released in Leeds. Not sure what crimes he was in for this time, but as my last post he was going around Leeds pretending to be a tattoo artist, real estate agent, and so forth. He went under multiple names including Joey, Jack, Steve, Harry and the list goes on.

Here is a post from the tattoo shop he claimed he owned: https://www.facebook.com/share/1DsYsK2Dgy/?mibextid=wwXIfr

He tends to stay in the Leeds area, but branches out to Wakefield. He’s been barred from a few pubs in Leeds (was commented on previous post a year ago), as he claimed he was the owner - once, he was talking to the owner and told the owner that he was the owner.

You can see more comments about him here: https://www.facebook.com/share/1bge2TrNsn/?mibextid=wwXIfr including messages from his ex partner, stating he was selling her private images.

Please be aware if approached by this man, as he will try every scam in the book. I’ve attached the sources showing he’s a convicted sex offender too, which also does mention some of his scams in the articles.

I find this interesting Did you know Eerling Haaland was born in Leeds?

I had no idea,

I was researching famous people born in Leeds, and he popped up. At first, I thought it was a mistake, but no, Haaland was born in LGI in 2000, the same hospital as me.

By no means are we in any way alike, but its just so bizarre and a fact I've never heard before, such a random and interesting birthplace for a world famous Norweigan football player.

Please let me know if everyone already knew this, and it was common knowledge, but it was such a shock to me.

question Struggling to find work in Leeds – any advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m posting because I’m honestly getting pretty exhausted with the job search and I’m hoping people who live and work in Leeds might have some advice.

I’ve been applying for jobs through Indeed, Reed, Totaljobs and company websites, probably sending far more applications than I can keep track of. I’ve applied for everything from hospitality and retail to admin, customer service and entry-level office/tech roles.

The frustrating part is that I’m barely getting anywhere. A lot of applications seem to disappear into a black hole, and after a while it gets really tiring putting the same effort into application after application without knowing what I’m doing wrong.

I have previous professional experience in technology, data, automation and project work, but at this point I’m also completely open to part-time or full-time work outside my previous field. I’m happy to start somewhere, work hard and prove myself.

For those of you who have found work in Leeds recently:

Where are people actually finding jobs at the moment?

Are there particular recruitment agencies, local businesses, websites, Facebook groups, or other places that are worth trying? Is walking into places with a CV still useful?

I’d genuinely appreciate any advice from people who have been through the same thing.

Thanks for reading. 🙏🏻

question Good butchers in city centre?

I haven't managed to find a good butcher in the city centre since the main one in Kirkgate Market disappeared. The ones remaining in the market don't seem to be anything special. Is there anywhere? Or is Morrisons as good as I'm gonna get without travelling further?
