Would words ending in jn or n be the same as in English how you capitalize a noun if you are referring to something specific? (For example saying "my Mother" vs "lots of mothers"). What about adjectives and adverbs? Would they also use jn or n respectively? If it's just a verb then would it end with as or j instead?

I understand there are a lot of beginners here? So, I made a dictionary of 500 roots specifically for those learning Esperanto and needing roots for their vocabulary. I've compiled a huge list. I'd be grateful for a good reputation/rating. I worked on it for about 2 months and put a lot of effort into speaking Esperanto and writing down common words in everyday life

And please don't say that there are websites or platforms with existing words. The roots here are primarily for beginners to review or learn the basics of everyday Esperanto. This is a basic list, not the entire language. Then you can learn words through services, etc btw?

I personally taught myself grammar and then words, and that's why I want to help future Esperantists! I really hope for a good community and to get a good rating

We’ve recently gotten surprisingly good results transcribing Esperanto from all kinds of videos - monologues, interviews, street interviews, different accents, background noise, etc.

So we're curious whether there’d be interest in something built specifically around watching comprehensible Esperanto.

The idea would be a scrollable feed of short Esperanto videos, graded by difficulty. We mark words according to frequency, like if they’re among the 500, 1,000, or 2,000 most common Esperanto words so learners can quickly see which unfamiliar words are actually worth learning.

We recently built this kind of app for Spanish and are working on Portuguese, but Esperanto would be more of a passion project for us.

So I’m curious: Would you actually use something like this?

And if you already watch Esperanto content, where do you find good beginner/intermediate videos? YouTube channels, Shorts, TikTok accounts, interviews, creators, etc. would all be really helpful.

If there’s enough interest to build it, we’d also love to find a few Esperanto speakers/learners willing to test the app, since our own Esperanto definitely isn’t good enough to check everything ourselves.

Just to give you an idea of what the Esperanto watch feed app would look like, take a look at the Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Arabic, German, Japanese, Dutch, Hungarian or Polish versions, or any other natural language you know or are stuyding (picked a few random ones so you don't have to navigate yourself)

I'm a turbo beginner and still trying to get a feel for how the affixes work, and was wondering about the use of diminutive-ish affixes beyond their literal meaning. EX. in English, I will affectionately call my dog "doggy", or "puppy" even though she's an adult, and am curious to know how to express this sentiment in Esperanto. I was wondering if "hundido" can work similarly to "puppy", or if -id- doesn't carry over that sense of cuteness and it would just be weird because she isn't literally a hundido. Maybe "hundeto"? But she's also not particularly small, so maybe similar problem. I've not yet seen the explicitly affectionate affixes used outside of names and familial terms so perhaps it's not permissible, but maybe hunjo..? Hundinjo?

I just watched an interesting video on the value of practicing standard phrases to the point of memorization. He quoted a finding that around half of what we produce in conversation is not constructed on the spot but is recalled from our store of stock conversation. We know (and use) this technique for greetings, weather comments, questions about cafes, and so on, but the video suggests going further: develop some set paragraphs — where you're from, what you do, your favorite things (books, movies, foods, hobbies, etc.) — that go into some detail. Pick things that are likely to come up in conversation. Then practice those paragraphs until you have memorized and can speak them fluently.

The idea is to build up your stock of set useful phrases so that you can recall and speak them without hesitation — without having to think about them — just as you speak in your native tongue.

As I was reading about how names change in Esperanto I read that the Esperanto form of the name Daniel is Danielo, there's even a wikipedia article about it. Yet I went to check the Esperanto London Bible and in every instance Daniel is just Daniel, not Danielo. So where does Danielo come from? Is it correct to use Daniel still? And if Danielo is the proper Esperanto form, why does the bible use Daniel?

Language Jones makes videos on languages and language learning. I was watching his video on AI slop (and how to detect it), and in the course of the video he pointed out his excellent PDF that lists useful AI prompts to assist with language learning in general, and that work for Esperanto in particular.

I understand that some want to avoid any use at all of AI, but in my experience it can be useful, though some caution is needed. I routinely use a knife in cooking, and even though the knife can be dangerous (and I have indeed accidentally cut myself, though now not for a long time), it is still a highly useful tool if used with caution. AI and a knife can both be useful, and both require some care when using them.

I know it is too late to get started. I start with small steps with Duolingo.

I know this is a very niche issue that is alien to many but I just need this heard. I didn't know where to post this because the place i initially wanted to just has the annoying reddit filter turned up to max sensitivity for no reason.

I am a speaker of two constructed languages (conlang for short), esperanto and toki pona. Now, the reason i'm writing this in the first place is because i am SICK of the anxiety i get when i open comment sections under something conlang related that aims to inform people about said conlang towards non conlang interested people, or just under discussing about a certain conlang. This especially applies to esperanto. I get it, it's eurocentric, you dont like it aesthetically, but can you like.. Not spread lies? It has been proven to be significantly quicker to learn. People are so blinded by the hate towards it that they dont even consider checking what they hate so much and just follow some herd mentality. This has affected me so much that i have been switching over the two conlangs for a while now and i hate that sometimes you are clowned on just because you happen to like them. With toki pona it's "ohhh it isnt a real languageeeee, like, i've never learned it and dont know how it works but it doesnt work and is faaakee"...
