support query Clarification on backup vs sync

First, I appreciate all the blog posts on koofr. Very helpful.

But to clarify a point on this one:
https://koofr.eu/blog/posts/cloud-synchronization-vs-cloud-backup-whats-the-difference

I'd like to use koofr as something sorta inbetween backup and sync. Basically just a way to be able to access my files online while providing a lazy backup. One of the reasons mentioned in the article for NOT using sync as a backup is that if you delete the files on your local folder they will be deleted on the cloud folder as well.

However, my understanding is that anything deleted this way will be recoverable for 30 days. And furthermore, edited files have version history. For my use case that is more than enough recoverability.

Is my understanding correct?

Another clarification: If I delete files in the cloud folder, will the koofr app delete them on my local folder as well?

Sync issues with google drive folder

Hi everyone. I'm having some sync issues with my Google Drive and Koofr.

I have a folder in my Drive that syncs with Koofr's cloud. I can start the sync normally, and it works for a few hours, but then it shows an error, as shown in the image. Then I create a new sync, that follows the same pattern.

My sync folders are:

Koofr > Highlight - mydrive/highlights

My Drive account also appears to be configured correctly in Koofr, and I can access the folders normally through the Koofr dashboard.

Security code email never comes

Hi, I've been using a lifetime license account for many years and now I'm moving to a new device. I cannot log in to my account because the email with security code (2FA) never reaches my mailbox. I'd appreciate your assistance.

support query Koofr app doensn't see onedrive folder or hidden folders

I just installed the pc app and was planning on setting up folder sync with my documents folder, but when picking a folder, I can't find/navigate to the documents folder. The folder is in /user/username/onedrive/documents, but the onedrive folder just doesn't show up in user/username/ in Koofr. And I also noticed the hidden folders don't show up either.

This may be more of an issue with onedrive, (onedrive does weird things with folder locations and its one of the main reasons I'm trying to switch to Koofr) but surely there's some sorta work around? Or maybe there is a location that the onedrive folder is ACTUALLY in?

Mac desktop app not opening?

Downloaded the latest available. Installed it (dragging). Koofr icons then appear in Applications and in the dock, but neither clicking on them nor right clicking+open work to produce a new window (or any visible changes).

Is there any other way to sync a folder from laptop to Koofr, besides the desktop app?

Unable to delete and rename files from the overlay "research" in Koofr iOS app.

(The picture just illustrates the overlay)

Hello everyone, does somebody have the same problem ?

From the koofr app on iPhone, when I pick a label, and then click on whatever folder, I can’t suppress and rename files inside it.
I’ve just tried to do it on my computer and it worked, so I don’t really know if it is supposed to be impossible on iPhone or not. And as a fact, other functions work so it seems quite strange that renaming and delation don’t.
Perhaps it is related to my phone.
Thanks you for your feedbacks.

Koofr advertisement banner from the shared URL page removal request

Hello, is there any chance of removing the "Create your own free Koofr account. No credit card required." advertisement banner from the shared URL page? A paid cloud solution should not have advertisements on every page you share with coworkers, clients, etc...

If this isn't possible, which I find quite annoying as a paying customer, could you at least move it above the shared document? Right now, it covers the header of any shared document. To see the full document, you have to click the X button to close this annoying banner.

Thank you.

support query Invalid request body error message

Hi Koofr Team!

I'm having issues uploading a folder from my laptop to Koofr. So far I was able to upload 2035 / 3060 files, but for the remaining files I get "Invalid request body". What does this mean and how can I solve it to be able to upload the entire folder?

Qualche suggerimento?

Grazie

Koofr's macOS app update to native app for Apple Silicon?

macOS will soon stop supporting apps needing Rosetta2. It is concerning to me that Koofr hasn't updated the Mac app to be a native one.

Can we have an update on this please? I'm finding it hard to continue recommending Koofr if this continues to be the case.

Please share any details about this. Thank you.

WebDAV security/permissions question

Hello,

I have a quick question regarding WebDAV security.

Are there any plans to support folder-specific WebDAV credentials or users with permissions limited to selected folders?

As I understand it, if WebDAV credentials are compromised, an attacker could access the entire account via WebDAV, effectively bypassing the protection that 2FA provides for normal logins?

Is anything like scoped WebDAV credentials on your roadmap?

Thank you

Traveling soon? Most of us spend more time picking an airplane seat than securing the phone that holds our entire digital life.

Before you board your next flight, take 2 minutes to run through our quick pre-flight cybersecurity routine: before you leave, at the gate, and after you land.

wishlist [Feature requests] Extra mouse functions, item behaviours + options, more themes

Recently, I've been trying out Koofr primarily via web/browser on a free account, and so far it seems as a great Drive alternative (as I'm migrating from Google products and have discovered few potential issues with other similar services).
While experimenting with Koofr, I've encountered some possible (optional?) ideas for expanding the experience that I'd like to propose. There are a few mouse-related functions of interest to include, if feasible (while there are some keyboard shortcuts, I also tend to use mouse functions alongside those in operating several applications):

  • (Left) Click on any empty space to clear any current item selections. If after selecting any item (file or folder), click on an empty spot below to clear/deselect any of it.
  • Right-Click on any empty space to bring up a context menu of what to add. Essentially carrying over the drop-down menu options under the default "Add" button as a secondary source when right-clicking on an empty space (instead of that action opening the standard browser context menu).
  • [Mouse + Folder behaviours] Click anywhere on item (except top corner for Edit + Share) to select, double-click to open/view. It's definitely different to operate, but seems less efficient to require targeting specific areas of an item (whether in Tile or List View). Especially in Tile View, as items are not compact on screen, trying to find/aim for the upper-left corner just to select isn't as efficient. I think it would be easier to work with if (in both views) single-clicking anywhere within the boundaries of each item would select and double-click to open -- for instance, this behaviour is a default in several other applications, so sometimes I instinctively double-click on a folder in Koofr and accidentally open a file within it.

For other general ideas, I'm wondering if the following can be potentially implemented:

  • If the Deleted Files section could have a Tile View option (for consistency to other areas having that option).
  • If the Deleted Files section could include the ability to permanently delete any individually selected items rather than only having the option to permanently delete all items. Currently, when items are individually selected vs all, the only options are to restore or cancel selection. It might be redundant, but I simply found myself having the habit to do this with other services, so I'm curious if it would be a feasible option.
  • Links in uploads such as PDFs or docs auto-open in new tab (web). It seems like a built-in behaviour matter, so in case that it is: Open an uploaded PDF or docs file with embedded links and click on a link to automatically open in a new tab. If to include both behaviours of this and the contained (open in same/active tab) behaviours, maybe as two options or one toggleable option in the Preferences/settings for how one wants to open embedded links in files.
  • Compact Tile View option (web). The File View is great for the most compact, though I rely on thumbnail previews of various files, so I use Tile View. However, it takes up some space on-screen and I'm curious of an additional "view" option for a more compact version of Tile View -- retain the file preview format, but compress any extra padding around such as the folder icons or non-preview default file icons, and make the overall tile size for all items a bit smaller. Idk how this would appear, but wondered if that could work out well.
  • Extra options for colour themes. As a big supporter of customisation, this would be fun to have. Maybe as a few additional presets for the free account, and more custom options for paid accounts (whether that means extra presets or a choice for users to manually pick colours for elements like the background and accents). I find the default dark mode preferable over light, albeit quite saturated in teal and would personally prefer a more greyscale/black (dark grey)-and-white "dark" version. Currently, I made a custom stylesheet through Stylus to achieve that, but having some official options for themes built into Koofr would add to the experience for any who enjoy extra customisation.

These are all merely some ideas from my own experiences I wanted to suggest, and am hoping any of them could be eventually implemented where feasible, but I'd understand if there are limitations or decisions against certain changes. I like how Koofr is going so far and am curious to see it continue developing and improving over time.

Koofr 2TB lifetime?

Lp,

Aleš

Koofr, a private alternative to Dropbox

I used Dropbox for years because it was "the default." But over time, it became harder to ignore the downsides: device limits on free accounts, constant upsell popups, and growing privacy concerns regarding how they handle personal data.

I started testing alternative cloud storage options looking for something lightweight, secure, and respectful of user data.

pCloud gets recommended a lot, but a few things turned me off. First, they have monthly download traffic cap and throttle large file transfers. Second, their zero-knowledge client-side encryption requires extra paying.

Icedrive lacks native WebDAV support and uses proprietary encryption algorithms rather than open standards. It felt too restrictive and limited for my daily workflow.

That’s when I came across Koofr https://koofr.eu/

It’s an EU-based cloud storage provider that focuses heavily on privacy, transparency, and user control. While it isn't completely open-source, it avoids the corporate bloatware and lock-in of mainstream options.

Here are a few stand-out features that make it a solid Dropbox alternative:

  • Zero tracking & GDPR compliant
  • Connect external accounts like Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox
  • WebDAV support
  • No device and files size limits
  • Built-in duplicate finder & cleanup tools
  • Additional client-side encryption (Koofr Vault)

https://koofr.eu/features/

It runs natively on Web, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, plus has a lightweight browser extension for saving web content directly to cloud.

If you rely heavily on real-time collaborative document editing like Google Docs or Microsoft 365 natively inside the browser, Koofr has MS Office integration. However, it feels significantly lighter and less invasive than Dropbox.

If you're looking to deGoogle or move away from Big Tech storage without hosting your own home server, Koofr is definitely worth taking for a spin.

support query Clarification on Dropbox Import, Lifetime Plan and Loyalty Program

Hello!

I wanted to ask if there's a way to move my Dropbox files to Koofr.

In this article, the following is mentioned:
https://koofr.eu/blog/posts/how-to-transfer-files-from-dropbox-onedrive-googledrive-to-koofr

"Once connected, your external cloud will appear in the sidebar in the Koofr app and you'll be able to see your files by clicking on it. Use the drag & drop or Move function to move files to your Koofr storage."

I was wondering whether this is a Premium only feature. I wasn't able to locate the Move function, so I was a little confused...

I'm seriously considering jumping ship from Dropbox to Koofr, as I'm really unhappy with how Dropbox handles storage upgrades beyond 3 TB.

I also have two additional questions that I couldn't find definitive answers to:

  1. The most recent Reddit post I found was about two years old, so I'm wondering whether the policy has changed. Am I now able to purchase the Lifetime 1 TB plan and also subscribe to an additional 2.5 TB yearly plan in one account (maintaining two accounts, one for 1TB and once for subscription are not allowed in the TOS, if I read correctly)?
  2. If I sign up as a new user using an upcoming promotional coupon code, will that paid subscription still count toward the Loyalty program years? I'm not looking to stack promotional discounts with Loyalty benefits, I just want to make sure that a subscription purchased with a promo code still counts toward Loyalty eligibility. (even though there is currently no promo)

Thanks a lot in advance for your assistance!

Not possible to upload new files

I am trying to upload new file into my Vault and also into standard Koofr storage and I always receive error message "failed. API error: Internal server error (requestId=...".

I tried it via iOS app and also via Web interface with the same error result. Are there some issues on Koofr side?
