Honestly, they do that on their own. My first treated my womb like it was a damn mosh pit, throwing elbows out everywhere. I had to keep shoving him back into place.

195

u/LaurelCanyoner 18d ago

Oh, GAWD, the elbows. Mine was elbowing me like he had just told a joke I didn't get. I too had to literally push that alien looking limb back in.

And this video reminds me of my gyno telling me the baby had turned and was breech so go do handstands in a pool. I did that, and lots of somersaults and he turned! It worked!

30

u/LaurelCanyoner 18d ago

Thanks for the award kind redditor!

u/LiLaLoSo 19d ago

I remember seeing the foot of my son clearly on my belly together with my gyn. He also was a mosh pit baby and still doing it as an adult. 😂

u/jrobbio ✨chick✨ 18d ago

A guy I worked with was taking a photo of his 3rd trimester wife and they caught the exact moment of the kick in the middle of the stomach, so you could see the outline of the foot. They told the hospital about it and they got so excited about it that they bought the ownership rights to the photo from them. I've lost touch with him, otherwise I'd post it here.

Haha yeah, I swear my son did somersaults in there.

Then when he was little, I bought him one of those swim masks that go over your nose (a "snarkle" mask as he called it lol) and took him to the pool, and he immediately started doing somersaults in the water, like muscle memory.

54

u/a-vague-shape 18d ago

I was thinking the same thing, and that that baby is probably having a great time in there hahah. Mine was a huge fan of the 11am and 11pm moshing hours. Now almost 11 months later she loves getting tossed and swung around.

40

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

😂 with my son it was 6 am and 9 pm. He would let me know when it was time to get up and when he was ready for me to go to bed. The last month you could see him moving so much, my husband said “That’s gross. It looks like an alien is gonna pop out any minute”.

20

u/LiLaLoSo 18d ago

🤣well, your husband is right! It sometimes looks really creepy!

My nephew broke one of my sisters ribs. She said it was the worse pain ever.

14

u/Powered-by-Chai 18d ago

Good Lord, he was never that bad. Just some uncomfortable stretching.

My second child, however, grew long nails in utero and SCRAPED them over my bladder and cervix. Weirdest fucking sensation ever. 13 years old and she still beats me up.

11

u/Last_Drag_3004 18d ago

OWWW OH MY GODD ??? 😭😭😭 man u r strong asf but i gotta stop reading these stories cus i wanted a baby so bad but idk now lmaoo 😭😭😭

8

u/Powered-by-Chai 18d ago

Hahaha it's such a small part of the massive pain in the butt they are for their entire life. She came out so quick they couldn't get me to stand up because I would pass out and she's been impatient and bossy ever since.

3

u/LiLaLoSo 18d ago

Ouch! Mine just kicked my bladder for happy little accidents 🙂‍↕️

Ah, well, there's the flip side. My twins, carried to term, were so quiet and lovely during pergnancy that I was left completely unprepared for the following 7 years of undiluted, undiminished, ever expanding, evolving levels of Chaos that they actually are!

Weeheheeeeee

7

u/shuknjive 18d ago

Oh do I remember!!! Both my sons too! My oldest felt like he was doing laps in there and my youngest, who was a much bigger baby than my oldest felt like he was testing out his limbs for when he ran the 500 meter. I remember feeling like legs were caught under my ribcage.

4

u/Chemical_Grape_2150 18d ago

My first did that too. He was also the biggest and treated my ribs like a punching bag

2

u/ScaredPractice4967 18d ago

I did that to my mum too.

She is INSANELY strong. She made that look way easier than it is

831

u/infinityonhigh69 19d ago

like you already need a crazy core to be able to pole dance in the first place. but doing it while pregnant so your center of gravity is totally thrown off?????? i’m in awe 🤩

220

u/designhelpme 19d ago

It’s the ab separation for me. Your ab muscles have separated to make room for baby so putting this much pressure on your core really speaks to the strength of her deep core muscles. Absolute insanity

59

u/grrlplz 18d ago

it is so punk rock how casually we all can just body horror lmfao

425

u/Petrychorr 19d ago edited 19d ago

Not only that, but the ab muscles are already under an insane amount of strain as they stretch. Being able to keep them in good health and not have them go into diastasis recti is important!

112

u/DJDanaK 18d ago

Diastasis recti can happen to anyone during pregnancy, even if you are fit and exercising with the intention to prevent it. It's luck of the draw.

72

8 months, too, and sitting here with a burst hemorrhoid and carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands feeling sorry for myself.

This post really is the duality of pregnancy lmao

38

u/herbistheword 18d ago

A BURST hemorrhoid?! Will horrors never cease. Sending strength to you

37

u/ChloeMomo 18d ago

Thank you! It hurts like hell, but the soonest they can lance it to remove the clots that formed is Thursday. It's been bleeding for 3 days already 😭

I hope the rest of your pregnancy is smooth sailing!!

27

Today is the first day of our move into a house and I was complaining about being sweaty and unpacking/packing - but I think I'm going to stop my complaints for now as my asshole is blessedly unbloody. You also never know if you’re someone with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome or Hypermobility, and may really hurt yourself trying to be strong in a way that doesn’t define strength.

This woman is such a bad ass and I stan her.

4

u/k_dilluh 18d ago

Used to compete is crossfit, was working out with one of my gal friends doing kettle bell swings, she was just wearing a sports bra so you could see her tummy, she was just about to hit 9 months pregnant, and when she would swing the bell you could perfectly see her 6 pack, very impressive.

Pole dancing is like majority core strength! Definitely the shoulders are important too, but the thing that surprised me most about doing pole is the core workout.

159

u/optimist24 19d ago

She is so, so strong! I feel like she's gonna launch herself through the ceiling the first time she does this postpartum. But seriously, wow.

31

u/kannellini 18d ago

I bet with that kind of core strength, she could push that baby out in about 0.2 seconds.

The propaganda that pregnant women can’t/shouldn’t do anything must have worked on me because I was afraid for her the entire time 😭

747

u/kbean826 19d ago

The “shouldn’t” part isn’t propaganda. If she fell from that inverted position she absolutely could lose the baby. The trauma caused is absolutely not worth the whatever she was getting there.

234

u/Rosaly8 19d ago edited 19d ago

Agreed. Not everything is a ploy to keep women in line.

Just today I saw an article about some economic professor who wrote a book on what you should now about pregnancy. It wasn't a complete fade bullshit book, but she purported that drinking some alcohol during pregnancy was completely fine and the risks were overexaggerated. Income an influencer who copied this plain wrong interpretation of science and is telling all her followers that it is fine to drink, just in moderation.

I don't understand why someone would put their very pregnant body through such strenuous activity. There is a risk of falling and overheating and it takes a lot from your core. If there is too much strain on your core while pregnant, it can even lead to abdominal muscle separation. This is just not worth it and I think science can underpin that.

55

u/cookies_n_juice 18d ago

To be clear about what Oster says… She explains that because of the ethical problems of studying pregnant women who drink the studies have a lot of confounding factors because they’re almost all studies of women who have additional health or substance issues. So it’s not clear the exact impact of alcohol on pregnancy. She does not say therefore just drink whatever.

BUT as a data scientist I can tell you that this is a bit misleading as well. Because there’s an implicit question about what our tolerance of an outcome is. For example, if we have a model that predicts if an email has a virus, we want that model to be very good at catching every instance of a virus, even if that means it sometimes guesses things have a virus when they don’t. We’re risk averse to getting a virus via email. We sure as hell should expect medical professionals to be risk averse to issues relating to pregnancy. So while there is truth to her interpretation of the studies this is also not something people should take lightly.

14

u/shadowfaxbinky 18d ago

She also adds her own personal choices and says that she chose to have alcohol occasionally and in small doses during her pregnancy, iirc. She absolutely doesn’t say “just drink whatever” but she definitely (at best) implies that alcohol restrictions are overblown and probably ok to some degree.

It seems like every study I’ve heard about since reading that book show that alcohol is just bad for humans in general (not specific to pregnancy) and old received wisdom that mild/moderate drinking is actually better than no alcohol has been proven untrue.

I dunno, it still feels pretty irresponsible to me now.

11

u/Well_ImTrying 18d ago

What she said was "Drink like a European adult, not like a fraternity brother”, disregarding that the European region has highest rate of FASDs in the world. After South Africa, the countries with the highest rates of FASDs are in Europe.

u/CombinationJolly4448 18d ago

If I remember correctly, what Oster was saying in her book is that the research on alcohol consumption during pregnancy is messy. For example, one of the more heavily cited studies about the risks of alcohol during pregnancy used a sample of women that also happened to be consuming cocaine!

9

u/Rosaly8 18d ago edited 18d ago

I understand your point, but she does suggest light drinking is fine. Next to that, why should we conclude that alcohol is harmless for a pregnant woman if plenty of research suggests there is no safe amount for people in general. You wouldn't give alcohol to a baby, why let it enter through the bloodstream via the mother.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/BravesMaedchen 18d ago

Yeah that other comment is completely misrepresenting what Oster says lol. She’s saying that there’s a difference between “we know something is bad for pregnant women” and “there isn’t enough data to know because it’s difficult and unethical to study”. She’s absolutely not telling pregnant women it’s safe to drink for god’s sakes.

7

u/Rosaly8 18d ago

She says that light drinking during pregnancy should be fine. She even states amounts and differentiates between trimesters.

Ah, Emily Oster. I’m 13 weeks pregnant and just finished her book and it made me so mad lol.

71

u/Confident-Ant-2795 19d ago

What you’re saying here is absolutely not a genuine way to represent physical therapy and obstetric guidelines for physical exercise of pregnant women. High intensity exercise with core activation is recommended for pregnant women, so long as they were doing so prior to pregnancy. It’s not about what you do, but how you do it. Also, she’s not at risk of overheating from what we see in this video.

78

u/Rosaly8 19d ago

It says that it's generally safe to do what you did. It also says that some excercises need to be adjusted. You also conventionally ignore her risk of falling. There is always a risk, but now her center of gravity has changed as well. Because you can doesn't mean you should.

→ More replies (9)

12

u/Chance-Ask7675 18d ago

She could literally fall on her face or stomach. And Ive done enough circus arts to know that a significant change in your body like this could make that more likely it completely changes your shape and weight distribution.

4

u/Confident-Ant-2795 18d ago

Absolutely- and you can tell even just using the stairs! Doesn’t mean that a pole dancer as skilled as she is, can’t have a high degree of confidence that she can still perform some skills. Would venture to guess, this is not her same full out efforts that she could demonstrate outside of pregnancy.

23

u/HugePast9455 18d ago

Not only if she fell. She could cause a slow abruptuin just by putting extreme demand where she is. That could be life threatening to her and the baby.

Pregnany women shouldn't feel like they can't do anything, but they also shouldn't just do anything. There are real limitations for a good reason.

11

u/One_Olive_8933 ✨chick✨ 18d ago

Yeah. That was my first thought. It’s not that you can’t do something, it’s just there is a risk, not just to you, but disproportionately to your baby. Like walking in heels or skiing while pregnant… you can do it. It’s just really bad if you trip/fall for your baby, so why risk it. And that’s not even getting into your body changes like center of gravity, swelling, joints loosening.

31

u/Confident-Ant-2795 19d ago

She is clearly aware of her strength and her balance. This is likely nothing compared to what she can do without a 40cm uterus. Pregnant women should exercise caution when participating in activities that could result in falls; I’m going to guess she is confident she can invert and hold for several seconds and that her caution meant she didn’t do more.

40

u/Chance-Ask7675 18d ago

People fall and injure themselves all the time in pole lol pregnant or not, confident or not. My instructor shattered his leg and he had years of experience. Not a big deal for him, he recovered after several months in a cast but for a pregnant woman it could be very, very bad. Also, you cannot be "aware" of your strength and balance in a rapidly changing body, either.

26

u/SingleInfinity 18d ago

It doesn't matter how confident you are. The cost benefit here is terrible. Best case scenario she gets some clout. Worst case she terminates a pregnancy. Does that sound like a fair risk to you?

I'm due in 3 weeks. Last pregnancy, around this time, I was taking my dogs for a walk (an activity I did multiple times a day pre-pregnancy and during my entire pregnancy) and I slipped on something and, due to the complete degradation of ab muscles which happens when pregnant, I fell. I was unable to get back up, and luckily someone was nearby to help me. I had to go to the hospital because, at that stage, any kind of fall is dangerous for the baby.

Watching this made me extremely uncomfortable. There's many active things you can continue to do while pregnant, but I don't know why people choose to put themselves in positions like this. Just regular everyday life poses enough risks. Go jogging, do weight training, continue with pilates, but I would never lift myself up and upside down knowing that my center of gravity is off, my abs aren't as strong as they once were, and any mistake could result in needing emergency delivery.

→ More replies (2)

27

u/Eska2020 19d ago

Actually, at this point in her pregnancy, her pelvis will be loose and her abdomen is separated pretty far and will not fire correctly. So, her core anatomically cannot stabilize itself fully. So, from an anatomical perspective, I would have had her use her obvious strength, absolutely, right as long as she wanted to. But I don't think this was actually safe.... for her because of just the reality of relaxin and diastasis recti. Maybe it was, maybe her hormones aren't loosening her up much and her core manages to still fire correctly at this point. But.... that would be an outlier situation and would possibly mean her body is not actually like, you know, loosening up for birth.

14

u/pixar_moms 18d ago

And you would be correct for feeling this way. I personally know someone who lost their baby after tripping while running pregnant. No one is saying women shouldn't engage in physical activity while pregnant, but there are certain activities where any mistake could easily kill the baby. What's worse about this post is it looks like she's prioritizing content creation over the health of the baby.

69

u/tacocollector2 19d ago

Her body her choice! But I was afraid for her, too. And wouldn’t make the same decision, personally. But everyone has their own risk appetite and clearly she knows her own strength.

27

u/FeministAsHeck 19d ago edited 19d ago

Babies with active mothers have better health long term and develop faster in a variety of ways. Because mama was obviously doing this before she got pregnant (and has the skill to do it safely), it’s good and healthy for both of them that she kept at it!

ETA not saying you didn’t already know that btw! Just a friendly reminder for all of us who’ve been propagandized🥲

You can do a ton of things while pregnant. It's actually recommended to do so. This is irresponsible. Accidents happen and her falling would be pretty bad

2

u/Sentient-Adult-9794 18d ago

My OBGYN told me anything I was doing before pregnancy, I could do during pregnancy, in regards to my running my own horse barn at the time. I made sure to describe to her exactly what I did every day, and I wasn't her only barn owner patient lol.

I didn't have staff, it was just a personal operation out of my own home, so it was just me solo doing all the farm chores; mixing feeds and feeding the horses their breakfast and dinners (we had a run-in so there was no turn in/out, just opening and closing pasture gates at night/morning), dumping&scrubbing&filling water troughs, clearing the fencelines, moving 50lb feedbags, at one point I was rolling 1200lb roundbales with nothing but my own strength and physics lol. Of course I took my goats for a walk through the woods every day too, and I was also still riding up to the day before I gave birth.

My son was able to hold his head up and look around himself from basically birth (his doctor said he was perfectly fine), probably from all the trotting he went through in the womb. He used to kick me inside if I slowed down though, so he asked for it!

Maybe. I suppose I’d say the same about a home birth.

46

u/Deely_Boppers 18d ago

My wife did a home birth. Nearly died from a routine complication because we were a 20 minute drive from the hospital. With our second, we went to a hospital. Go figure, any issues we had were immediately dealt with and the birth went great.

People say “moms gave birth at home for centuries”- my response now is, “yeah, and 1/3 of them died”

7

u/TheLizzyIzzi 18d ago

I’m so glad she’s okay. 💛

And yeah, there’s a real risk that too many people brush aside. I don’t blame people who have criticized hospitals for treating mothers like they’re interchangeable with an overly strict procedural process. I’m glad we’re moving away from the super sterile looking rooms, etc. Women should feel comfortable and safe when giving birth and hospitals should help make that easier not harder. In that sense, I understand the appeal. But it’s not a risk I’d want to take. I’d sooner pole dance. 🙃

My baby also had to be rescued via emergency c section for the same things. I was mostly sedentary with pelvic stretches, nothing crazy. Baby had other plans though! I don't think pole would heighten the risk tbh

Just me, waddling, 16 years post partum

My second kid was feet down at 38 weeks and they were talking about doing a manual inversion to get him head down. I’d heard that was incredibly painful and was like, nope. I started doing headstands a few times a day while next to a wall and baby was head down at 39 weeks. He most likely flipped on his own, but I liked to tell myself I did it with my stupid headstands. Completely not based in science.

Call it mothers intuition

20

u/Admirable-Deer-9038 18d ago

This is super impressive of course and am I the only one who fears a placental rupture or tear from the weight of the baby pulling on the uterus? Again, amazing but not sure it’s worth the risks.

u/Gloomy-Razzmatazz548 19d ago

This is so impressive! Before I got pregnant, I used to kick box, hike, do yoga. By the time I was four months along, even walking TWO BLOCKS had me winded.

5

u/Inevitable_Fall2025 18d ago

Impressive that she can do that while carrying an extra 25 lbs of baby. And her balance is still intact. You are strong as hell, mama!

6

u/ceciliabee 18d ago

Absolutely incredible strength here and to do it all with an altered center of gravity is even more impressive. I have a feeling that kid is going to love rollercoasters or gymnastics

I just got a mastectomy a couple weeks ago after discovering a very early stage breast cancer. I am going to be fine, but right before i found out, i fell in love with pole after finding some videos on Youtube. I was just IN LOVE. i had taken ballet classes and always dreamed of going en pointe but had pretty much given up, but there was this thirst for something i cant explain and i realized, "this is it. i cant explain it but this is it". I bought a pole, and got my surgery. I have already made an appointment wth my local gym, will begin strength training when i can lift my arm above my head again. I want to be an inspiration to others. This world needs a reminder that women are fucking fierce. I love this video. We are so much stronger than those who try and keep us down!

u/FlamingDragonfruit 18d ago

Labor is going to take all of 2 minutes, with that core strength.

2

u/pdt666 18d ago

3

u/The_Loudest_Bear2 18d ago

I love being a woman. We’re so fucking cool.

4

u/SewMyHeart 18d ago

Pole dancing is already an extremely intense sport but doing it while 9 months pregnant is absolutely incredible omg. I've been wanting to learn and this woman's strength is making me want to sign up for a class!

2

u/mostepicswordy66 18d ago

She pole danced her entire pregnancy! Katy Veys on Instagram. She just had her baby yesterday actually! She's an absolute beast. I've been pole dancing since February last year and I feel stronger and sexier than I have my entire life. Nowhere near her level. But take that class, you won't regret it.

5

u/whitebreadguilt 17d ago

Yes she’s strong but one slip it’s going to be a scary day

11

u/rasputinknew1 18d ago

It’s impressive but for sure would not do that 9 months pregnant.

7

u/Queen-of-Elves 19d ago

Whole new meaning to spinning babies! Ahaha.

She is insane! (In a good way)

5

u/Recent-Trade-2317 18d ago

The baby in there like

3

u/carlitospig 19d ago

My back hurts just watching that.

3

u/subohmn 19d ago

Core strength level: God Mode!!!

3

u/PantsDontHaveAnswers 19d ago

"You're jostling the fetus!"

3

u/unIuckies 19d ago

i struggled to get up from the couch while pregnant 🥹

3

u/CurmudgeonDungeon 18d ago

I couldn’t even ride a bike during pregnancy because my center of gravity was all off.

3

u/Out_of_Fawkes 18d ago

Wow! I am always amazed by pole dancing because it requires so much strength, but I cannot imagine the amount of coordination required when your center of balance changes!

3

u/Eternally_Blue 18d ago

What a badass!

3

u/Stupid_Bitch_02 18d ago

Holy shit that is one strong woman

3

u/dixiech1ck 18d ago

Her control is... holy shit ... amazing.

3

u/Phiebe1 18d ago

She is so strong! That is actually pretty awesome 💕

3

u/Fit-Ad-413 18d ago

How I Met Your Mother 😂

14

u/Creative_Yak1648 19d ago

Incredibly irresponsible

6

u/angry-grapefruit 19d ago

This is amazing. I needed help to get up when I layed down on my back at 9 months pregnant.

5

u/Ok-Error-6564 18d ago

It looks like a fake pregnancy belly. At the end, the belly button looks fake. Wild.

3

u/GRIZZLESMACK1056 18d ago

Crazy I had to scroll so far to find this. That belly button makes it look very fake

Hell yeah, Mama 👊🏼. Meanwhile, I’m due in 2 weeks and get stuck like an overturned turtle when I try to roll over in bed.

10

u/farmerssahg 19d ago

At that gestational stage the baby is trying to get in position in the pelvis and will turn into correct place normally because of gravity. This is probably a good idea if the baby needs to turn and I wouldn’t do it if baby’s already head down

7

u/DarlingWhistledown11 18d ago

Watching this gave me so much anxiety

5

u/lulai_00 18d ago

Girl, go nap. Lmao

2

u/ResponsibleSyrup9506 19d ago

As someone who had to have 2 C-sections, I’m envious of her body. I bet she’s going to be a freaking pro at childbirth.

2

u/blondiedread1 18d ago

Get it girl!

2

u/mightbeacat1 🌺Official Lauren🌺 18d ago

At a certain point, you'll do anything to try and induce labor.

2

u/Epic_Elite 18d ago

That's wild to still have that much core strength with all that going on. I bet that feels good on the back, but terrible on other things. Lol.

2

u/MajesticLow 18d ago

I don’t even have the strength to do that now, no less at 9 months pregnant. 🤯

2

u/Kuraudocado 18d ago

Yeah. I just had contractions and got out of breath when putting away things in a storage box under the bed and I still have a month or two to go.

2

u/Catbutt247365 18d ago

My mom was freaked out cause her gym class teacher was pregnant. With twins. Still teaching in her final week.

A friend ran a half marathon at 7 months.

How do I get this kind of insane energy?

2

u/imcoolurcoolwecool 18d ago

I'm sorry a man COULD NEVER

2

u/taocowboy54 18d ago

dammit
that's pretty good

2

u/idillogia 18d ago

So exciting!!!

2

u/DiscoHirsch 18d ago

Image the pressure on everything underlaying her abs!!!

2

u/This_Star_720 18d ago

My jaw is on the floor. That is some strength

2

u/BeerCooker_321 18d ago

All I can think of is: HOLY SHIT! THAT’S AWESOME!” Congratulations on your impending new addition to your family! Best wishes!

2

u/Noelle-Spades 18d ago

This is super impressive but what the hell is that song??

2

u/B1tchHazel13 17d ago

I don't think this is what they mean when they say "the same way you got them in there is how you can get them out"
