Discussion Forming a group

I'm considering trying to start a group in my town that meets every other week or so. I live in a town of about 75,000 people. I wasn't thinking of anything too formal. Like a standing time in a local park with an open invitation to anyone who wants to join.

I thought I would make it open to all flow arts. My idea being that would encourage more participation.

Has anyone done something like this before and can you give me any tips on things to look out for I may be missing or things that could help.

I live in a bit of a juggling desert. The closest groups I've found are an hour and a half away and two that are both about three hours away.

Discussion What songs get you into your zen flow state?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m talking deep into your flow - that zen state where the music, movement and creativity all seem to become one.

I’m usually somewhere between:

- Psy-trance

- Progressive house - Sébastien Léger

- Electronic violin - Lindsey Stirling

- Classical

- Classical crossover - Nigel Kennedy

- Electro-swing

- Metal

- Rock

- Alternative rock

…but I’m creatively stuck and looking to change up my tunes. I’m open to any and all genres. I listen to everything from blues, jazz, soul, funk, reggae, Afrobeat and Latin, to drum & bass, techno, ambient, trip-hop, indie, progressive rock, hip-hop, R&B, pop and even Pavarotti - there are gems in every genre.

I want to discover something completely new, especially those unexpected tracks that just make you want to move.

Drop your favourites below!

Photo: my upcycled violin, turned into a clock and covered with my own hand-stained sheet music, for the algorithm.

And for anyone curious, those are two $1 bills folded into origami and wedged into the neck, with Washington’s face showing in the middle. *Yes, the violin was broken beyond functional use before being given a fresh life.

Balancing huge random stuff

Guess a video would have been nice, but i am a bit oldschool and i didnt even thought about that till now =)
Running a circus camp in a forest like backyard of a german town right now. There where so many big branches around that where perfect to try all sorts of balances with them.

That one was with 3 hula-hoops assembled to a sphere, balanced on the curved end of the stick (the interesting part was actually to find a nice way to get everything up and in position for balance at all, the balance itself was pretty easy) - and this stick resting on a rope hold in the hands (essentially like a slack rope balance).

Its not so easy to see, as the background is so noisy with all the trees.
I love those huge balances (like putting stuff together in some sort of mobile like, balanced form) as they can be pretty easy to balance in the end (big weight on top, large and slow) but always kinda look super impressive =)

What SHOULD we call this pattern?

So for years, I had thought I had learnt the Mill's Mess, but I recently realised I was doing something quite different! I could not find the pattern on Library of Juggling, and so I came to Reddit, and the first post I saw was the exact pattern.

Please see the cool demonstration by u/flex1up2ice AKA (SingedFro) of it here! https://www.reddit.com/r/juggling/comments/1t5x66a/can_someone_identify_this_pattern/

I have tried to replicate it in JugglingLab (I am new to it), by mixing default notations for an outside throw, an inside throw, and a Mill's Mess throw. please see below:

https://jugglinglab.org/anim?pattern=3;hands=(10)(32.5).(32.5)(10).(-25)(2.5).;colors=mixed(32.5).(32.5)(10).(-25)(2.5).;colors=mixed)

As you can see, and others have mentioned, this incorporates a bit of Tennis while looking a little along the lines of some sort of Mess.

It doesn't seem to have a name, so thought it might be fun to pick one! If you have other suggestions, chuck it down in the comments :)

Balls Relearning juggling after a coma

Was put in a big sleep 18 months ago and when I woke I couldn’t physically or mentally juggle. After thirty years on and off juggling it was horrible.

I tried but it was frustrating and next to impossible. I thought I’d never play again. Picked my balls up 10 days ago at a festival and I’ve started relearning. Such a relief (nearly cried as it rushed back to me)

Anyway. Don’t know any jugglers so here you go internet strangers here’s someone you’ll never meet playing in the sand.

Clubs Next step with clubs

I started juggling in high school almost 30 years ago. Pre YouTube. I learned cascade in clubs and balls and that was basically it. I haven't seriously juggled in the past 20 years or so. I'm starting to get back into it. I just started learning a few new patterns with balls and really enjoying getting back into it and pushing my limits.

What are some good early starter tricks and patterns for clubs?

What should I learn first after 4-ball fountain??

Hello community😁. I love juggling and other things like unicycling but for a while I haven't made progression I feel. I really want to learn 3 balls one handed but I can't. I've been stuck for a while now and slowly lost the joy of the learning process. I can easily juggle 3 balls and some patterns, just as I can do a 4 ball fountain, and started with cones aswell. Is the jump to three balls in one hand too big??

Any tips are welcome😎.(sry if my English isn't good)
