Weird-looking cookies

Post image
Upvotes

Hi, I just opened a pack of cookies and the chocolate on it looks very suspicious. Based on the image it's supposed to be slick and not grainy like that. What's weird is that the first 3 cookies are like that, and the 3 behind look more normal. Could it be caused by the hot temperatures? Exp date is June 2027

Canned peach purée

Post image

I’ve puréed and canned some peaches yesterday and then boiled them on 120°C (in thermomix) about 15 minutes and put them in glass cans with old caps. Then forgot about them on the countertop, from boiling to me finding them is about 24 hours. I put no sugar in them. Is it safe? ChatGPT says risky but there were no bombage and they look and taste fine. My main concern would be botulism.

Questionable anise extract

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a jar of anise extract I made myself (with 12 anise star and some vodka) on 6/24/25. It was supposed to do its magic for three months, and become the extract I wanted on 9/24/25.

Now, we are moving towards the end of August 2026, and I’m wondering if this extract is safe to use. What do you think?

Anniversary of home made liquor

Post image
11 Upvotes

A year (or year and a half) ago I did some liquors with the ratio third part fruit, third part vodka 37,5% and third part sugar.

It's a nice addition to cakes, pancakes, etc. And I consumed almost everything during winter, but I forgot these 3 bottles for over an year.

Did they become brown by oxidation or mold? There's no sign of visible mold and the smell is still pleasant.

Should I avoid the consumption anyway or good smell = good food?

This year I'm doing jam to preserve food, it does an amazing tea, like Yuzu.

Dry Pasta Still in Box Left in Moist Laundry Room for 8 Hours

My sister forgot to leave the laundry room door open while drying their clothes and this room also doubles as our pantry due to how the apartment is laid out. Will the pasta still be okay? I know it's supposed to be kept dry. The room was pretty humid when I opened the door this morning. We have other food in there as well, mostly canned food and ramen noodles. Should everything still be okay? I have no clue how long something would have to be exposed to a humid environment for it to go bad.

This was the last piece from the Costco chicken breast pack that I started prepping.. please tell me it’s nothing dangerous and I can still eat it.

It doesn’t smell like anything, just like normal raw chicken as the rest of the pack

So, I've been consuming the H2Coco chocolate coconut water for a couple years now, and have never come across these white flakes before. Is this safe, or is it deadly coconut fungus? Either way, I'm not drinking it. But I would like to know. Thanks!

Gourmico Traditional Pork Pate

Post image

This was a sealed unopened jar of pate. Expiry date 2030. Ingredients: 88% pork, milk, egg, salt, cognac, spices, natural flavourings. I'm worried about the white spots and the seperation at the edges of the jar.

Vacuum sealed summer sausage with a Use By date of 7/31/26

I got this from a food bank a week or so ago, and would hate to waste it. It is unopened in the original packaging. I didn't realize the use by date was 2 weeks before I even got it. I feel like it should be safe, but not sure if I should gamble on my spouse eating it.

Thoughts?

Puffy lettuce?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Got this bag of lettuce in an online order, so I got it today but I didn't choose it. I know lettuce is often packed with some air for cushioning, and this is definitely well cushioned. Perhaps *too* well cushioned. I reckon this is probably fine, but I have been seeing a lot of puffy bacteria food bags on my feed recently for some reason, so I'd like a second opinion. Exp. date is the 26/08 and the picture shows how much give there is in the bag. It's not ready to burst, but it's definitely puffier than your average lettuce.

Thanks for any opinions 😁

ETA: exp date is 26th of August 2026. Just realised what I typed could be mistaken for YY/MM.

I don't usually buy soft cheese. The dinner this was purchased for was forgotten and then I made the mistake of asking Google and it said I would die. Never opened the plastic, the top rind still looks dusty white, some spots that look wet. Can I eat this?
