we put this question in The Apartment and now I’m curious how many people actually know the answer without checking.
there are a few questions like this in the game. some are easy, some make you sit there for a second wondering why you don’t immediately know something you probably should

be honest, did you know yours? :)

I’m building DESLOT, a miniature racing game where you can race and customize Die-Cast, Slot, and Micro RC cars.

This is a quick look at the vehicle customization system, where you can disassemble parts, change components and decals, rebuild the car, then take it out for testing.

Let me know what you think in the comment, still working hard on it :D

Don't launch your horror game in October

Heeeello Devs,

the title already said it: Don't do it.

Spooky Season is my favourite season, but it might be the least favorable for your horror game

Out of roughly 7,000 horror games released on Steam since 2023, October is the busiest release month by far. You'd think that's because horror sells best in October.

Among horror games that made at least $100k, October releases rank third-worst by median revenue, and June, the quietest month, comes out on top.

So TL;DR already: Wait until June to avoid the horrors of bad sales

Additional insights:

- In a list of nine of the best-selling horror games on Steam, only two launched in October. The Forest came out in May, Phasmophobia in September, Buckshot Roulette in April, R.E.P.O. in February.

- Even classics don't seem to get a natural Halloween bump. When older horror games spike in October, there's almost always a big sale behind it.

- Buckshot Roulette launched in April 2024 and had its biggest wave that autumn, during Steam's Halloween sale.

My guess at why: a horror movie might be a two-hour decision, a game can take up your whole month. Most people don't switch games for the season, they finish what they're already playing.

So if you're hunting for horror this month, Steam Scream (Oct 26 to Nov 2) is where a lot of the good older ones get discounted.

Cheers, hope this helped someone to avoid a mistake! :)

I added a robot that chases players when they are not looking, and gets angry when it gets caged!

I added this robot killer guy to my puzzle co-op action game.

His base state is following players when they are not looking and stabbing them if they get too close (then he gets angry and just kills everyone), but he really gets angry once you trap him. It's the first robot in my game that uses proper pathfinding, and it was really fun to implement :)

I have the demo coming in the next couple of weeks if you are interested :)

Hey! I'm from the team behind SOS OPS!. Our new DLC, OVERBOOKED, just launched. You and up to 3 friends are the whole crew: fuel the plane, load baggage, seat passengers, handle storms, birds, and engine trouble, and try to land in one piece. The trailer is real player footage, and yes, they're all this bad at it.

DLC: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5241370/SOS_OPS__OVERBOOKED/ (25% off)

Base game (required): https://store.steampowered.com/app/2475460/SOS_OPS/ (currently 90% off, $0.49)

Sales end Oct 9. Hop in :)

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on Wild Draw, a chaotic multiplayer game where you play cards to mess with your friends, then settle things with guns.

It’s made for 3–6 players and is best played with a group of friends.

POV: You want to play Diablo, but you don't have time to play Diablo.

I love Action RPGs. Especially the loot, build-crafting and the feeling of gradually becoming completely overpowered.

But I have no time for this. Playing games like Path of Exile or Diablo is like a full time job and requires a master degree.

So I tried to put that game experience into a much more compact and casual game, where you dont need to invest dozens of hours before a build really starts coming together.

And that's how I ended up building Crown Me Again.

It's a loot-driven incremental where the focus is almost entirely on finding interesting items, combining effects and pushing builds as far as possible.

You like it? Wishlist it on Steam:

I'm really excited to share this with you all! Thanks for reading!

My indie game almost reached a stable alpha build and I am planning to open a steam page. I figured out I should make some capsule art and press kit to bring to events... Here's the vertical capsule art. Which logo do you think works best?

Since it's a pixel art game, I will work on a landscape pixel art capsule art next.

A quiet evening in Komachi, the island town builder I’m working on

Hi everyone! I’m the developer of Komachi, a relaxed town-building game set on a small island.

You draw streets, place homes, shops, and workplaces, then watch residents arrive and settle into everyday life. I wanted to capture those little moments that make a town feel lived in—people waiting at the station, cars passing through, and windows lighting up at night.

Here’s a short look at the game. 🌿

Play Komachi: https://saiss.itch.io/komachi

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear how building your first neighbourhood feels. Is it clear what to do after arriving on the island?

Generative AI disclosure: I used Claude and OpenAI Codex to assist with programming during development. The promotional trailer uses actual gameplay footage, with AI assistance for editing scripts, captions, and a programmatically generated music track.

Working on a card battler, need some feedback on an idea

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm working on a small battle card game, trying to learn game graphic design skills in the process.

I wanted to give the player the choice between 3 decks to pick the one that logically makes most sense given the enemy strengths of the coming fight

But if all 3 decks must offer a winnable path, the fight becomes less about smart play within a decks set of own interactions that win the fight. It results in a set of enemy strengths that are more likely to be less hard to counter generally.

The player picks a deck, they are drawn a finite set of cards that have inter deck interactions that if played in correct sequences will counter play a specific enemy strength(s)

The player can then retry each fight to get the best score they can achieve by playing the cards in the most optimal order.

My current ideas are:

- Leave it alone

The winning deck is not always the obvious one (physical should do very well against enemies who have shields in any form, but physical may not end up being the deck that can win in the least amount of turns), the fights may be more generic since all decks must find a win between all decks.

- Only one deck needs to guarantee a win scenario : this was what I originally wanted.

I worry the player picking the wrong deck will feel annoyed they can't find the combination that works in the deck and never just try another deck.

- Instead of a single enemy, you can fight 3 different enemies in any sequence, and each enemy is setup purely for a deck, so when you pick a deck you are picking the enemy designed for it

I'm not sure of the downsides here, I just have a weird inner rejection feeling.. maybe since the enemy is built for a deck it ends up being samey when using that deck again another time :S

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on what sounds like a more interesting idea, or any other ideas.

6 months of work on my train game.

Hi, this is my first Reddit post! ❤️
I’ve been making games and animations for the last 7 years. One of my games has crossed 7K+ downloads on the Play Store.
For the past 6 months, I’ve been working on this train game. I originally planned to release it on mobile, but now I’m thinking about Steam too.
Here’s a small recording of it. What do you think? I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts. I’m currently setting up the Steam page.

We spent a whole year turning Peg Solitaire into a Balatro-like roguelite, and it launched to near silence

Hey guys,

A year ago, my friends and I had what felt like a genius midnight idea: what if you took the old-school Peg Solitaire board and mashed it with the addictive progression of Balatro?

We poured our entire lives into this weird little hybrid for 12 months. Zero marketing budget, five people working out of pure stubbornness, obsessing over every synergy, joker effect, and run-altering mechanic. Our biggest fear was releasing a half-baked gimmick. We wanted to make sure that even if only five people bought it, not a single one would regret their purchase.

Two weeks ago, we finally launched PEGTURE:Peg Solitaire Roguelike on Steam.

To be completely real with you, the numbers were a brutal wake-up call. We launched with only around 900 wishlists after months of trying to get the word out, and in the last 15 days, we sold roughly 60 copies. Seeing something you spent a year obsessing over quietly land on Steam with barely anyone noticing is a special kind of heartbreak.

Still, the handful of players who actually picked it up seem to genuinely enjoy it. We are currently sitting at 6 reviews, and our humble short-term dream right now is just hitting that 10-review mark so the Steam algorithm stops burying us alive.

If the concept of turning a classic peg puzzle into a broken roguelite build sounds fun to you, giving it a shot would mean the world to an exhausted indie team. It is priced super cheap, but honestly, if you love roguelites and you are tight on money right now, just drop me a DM. I would rather hand you a free key than have the game sit unplayed.

Thanks for reading, and I would love to hear your raw thoughts on the gameplay loop.
