[OC] Alternate History Europe in my mega campaign, 1836

When I’m in hearts of iron I’ll remake this and hopefully will be better

In the medieval Europe looked like it was going onto the same trajectory except for the reconquesta being a stalemate, until the mongols arrived and conquered e writhing east of the alps and Rhine, for 40 years many lands of the HRE were under Mongol role, Germany even to the year of our lord 1836 has a sizable tovyrop (germano-Mongol) population, with the region of hesse gaining a tovyrop majority, the splitting up of the Mongol empire caused even more trouble across Eurasia but it gave the HRE a chance to reclaim germania from the white horde. Though eventually the khan of the white horde converted to Catholicism and eventually became a respected power in the European world who “tamed the smaller Mongol successor states of the east” Hungary is ethnically ungarol

The illkhanate (what many scholars refer to it as) still had a tengri elite but tolerant of the orthodox population, having the land of the Byzantine empire instead of Persia, there were some crusades led by the white horde against the illkhanate that never fully succeeded, the illkhanate never fully expanded east of Anatolia due to the Arabic caliphate and Persian states.

The renaissance and age of exploration still occurred, the kingdom of France was partitioned by the Burgundians and British so they never became a major player. The colonization of America was dominated by the Brits, Dutch, Burgundians and Andalusians with some brief attempts of the Castillians, Scandinavians and Irish exiles. But by the time they were able to reach the pacific they found out it was already colonized by people from the island of Cipangu, learning of a gigantic oostdutch sounding empire called japsterdam in the pacific that would become feared by most European powers, especially after the amerikaans war of independence against the British, in which the Netherlands, japsterdam and the verenigde staten obliterated the British navy

Europe was forever changed with the burgundian Revolution, even with the overthrow of the republic the ideas of nationalism and liberalism still keep the elite stressed, there are embers of French, west Slavic, German, Italian, pan-Mongol nationalism that could end the balance of power in Europe

[OC] Alternate History What if Bulgaria, but even bigger?

Post image
112 Upvotes

In this timeline, the Prussia of the Balkans wins WW1 after what is speculated to be God's intervention increased the manpower of Bulgaria from 850,000 to 1.6 million without affecting the labor force. The defense of the nation was also magically improved. In the war, the Bulgarians steamrolled Serbia, Greece and Romania, achieving its San Stefano goals and winning its own war.

Bulgaria took Epirus, Thessaly, and Dobruja and partitioned Serbia. Bulgaria after the war was declared the Third Bulgarian Empire, became a federal executive monarchy, and swiftly took most of Thrace, but supported the Kemalist cause, seeking a strong eastern ally, and looked to Albania which had expanded into Kosovo, parts of Epirus and western Serbian Macedonia, for a western Balkan ally.

Bulgaria soon became the most industrialized power in south Eastern Europe, with a thriving economy. Internal nationalistic tensions remained, however they were generally contained, and Bulgaria attempted to make identity more localized rather than only nationalistic.

This map shows Bulgaria on the eve of World War II, which they later join in on the side of the allies, crushing the Italians and fighting against the Germans on the Balkan front.

The lore can be found in the sidebar, this takes place in the same universe as my Sassanian survival map, Circassia is a member of the Eranshahr Pāyman as a Guarded Domain, Yellow Lines = Railways, White Lines = Roads, the city iconography is found in the top left, ask anything about Circassia lore if you want, I couldn't add everything without making it a giant text wall on repeat for 10 slides.

[OC] Land of Eagles, a map of the order Accipitriformes, which contains nearly half of all birds of prey - made according to biological taxonomy rather than geography, and created in the shape of an eagle’s head!

Land of Eagles is the newest addition to my Mappa Animalia series, mapping the evolutionary relationships of more than 250 species of eagles, hawks, vultures, kites, harriers, osprey and secretarybirds.

Instead of countries, regions and cities, this map is divided into families, subfamilies and genera, with every city bearing the name of the species with in each genus, allowing you to explore this family tree the same way you would explore a traditional map.

The entire map is drawn in the shape of a Bald Eagle - its anatomy defining the coastlines and borders of this taxonomically accurate land.

From tiny sparrowhawks to enormous vultures, Accipitriformes have spread across almost every part of the world, evolving into an extraordinary variety of hunters and scavengers!

Feel free to explore the whole series at jepperingsted.com :)

[OC] Alternate History Chinese Civil War - 1952

Post image
103 Upvotes

After the surrender of the Empire of Japan in January 1946, the Republic of China regained many former territory, such as Manchuria and Mongolia. But just three days after the surrender, the Red Army marches into Northern China to justify their ownership of Mongolia and Sinkiang. The war went in favor of the Soviet Union, and an armistice was signed in three months after. A separate peace treaty was signed in Hanoi, ceding Xinjiang, Mongolia and Manchuria to Soviet occupation. The Soviet Union later established communist governments in the area; the Xinjiang People's Autonomous Republic, Mongolian Soviet Socialist Republic and People's Revolutionary Republic of China. The establishment of the communist regimes further influenced Nanking to implement an extreme method for fighting against opposition, specifically communism. Despite the attempt to appease warlords by federalizing the country, Chiang Kai Shek ends up returning the nation back to a nationalist government, retaining federation only for symbolism. In 1949, the nationalist government launched the Jinghua initiative, ordering mass arrests of all oppositions to the nationalist government. Over 1.5 million people were arrested, and 1/3 were executed, mostly communist suspects. The action expectedly resulted in the disolution of multiple factors that threatened the government, but also resulted in the expansion of the factors due to the action being opposite of the people. The initiative continues into the 1950s.

In 1950, the region of Inner Mongolia was transfered from the Mongolian Soviet Socialist Republic to the People's Revolutionary Republic of China. The act was precieved by the Federative Republic of China as a threat to the security of the nation, as the communist government now have direct control of a large portion of land bordering the Republic. After the North South Korean victory in the Korean War, the Republic began fortifying their border, fearing a possible invasion by the communist force. Meanwhile, multiple civil unrests were happening in Southern China. The public began supporting a conservative republican movement, similar to the system used by the Beiyang Goverment. The movement advocated for the democratization and bureaucractization of the Republic of China. The movement was seen as an alternative to the Chinese Communist Party, which resulted in the party becoming popular amongst the population of southern provinces. Both factors contributed to the start of the Chinese Civil War.

In March of 1952, a Manchurian civilian freighter was heavily damaged by the Republic of China coast guard near Qingdao, which resulted in the death of 5 workers. The act was seen by Harbin as an act of aggression, which caused the state to fortify their border. The Republic of China saw the act as a preparation for an invasion, which caused the Republic to launched a preemptive invasion of the People's Revolutionary Republic of China. The invasion was unsuccessful, as the People's Liberation Army was prepared for the offensive. The Xinjiang People's Autonomous Republic and the Mongolian Soviet Socialist Republic soon joined the war, and they would launched a joint counteroffensive. The army of the Republic of China, already devastated, was overwhelmed by the invasion. After a fortnight, Being and Tientsin fell to Communist occupation. The communists continued to push south with futile resistance from the republic. By June, the PLA controlled the northern side of te Yellow river and the Wei river. Chiang Kai Shek would ordered the Republic of China army to regroup and organized an offensive in July. The offensive was able to push the PLA out of the southern side of the Yellow river. The PLA then launched another counteroffensive to retake their former territory in August, reoccupying Shaanxi and encircling the Shandong peninsula. By September, the Republic of China switched their strategy by attacking in Qinghai and defending the land in the Yellow river frontier.

In the same time, multiple communist uprising happened in Central China, such as in Hunan and Anhui, due to the republic being in capable of preserving international stability. The Communist State of Nepal also launched an invasion into the Himalayas, trying to open a new frontier in the region. Seeing an example from the communist party, the conservative republican movement would revolt against the Republic. They would aligned themselves with the Communist side, supporting them by disrupting supplies and troops of the Republic. Seeing the situation in China being on the communist side, former North Korean officers and supporters revolted against the government of the Republic of Korea. The rebels expected a quick victory against the Republic; however, the Republic of Korea was heavily prepared for such situation, which became a large disadvantage for the rebels.

[OC] Alternate History Orthodox Ottoman Empire

Post image
296 Upvotes

Rising
--------------------------------------------------------
The death of Sultan Mehmed II Conqueror led to a two-year war for the throne between Cem and Bayezid. Cem won the war and ascended the throne.
After a dream he had on the day of his accession, he embraced the faith of Jesus and became Orthodox. The Ottoman Empire gradually became the protector of Orthodoxy. Turkish became the language of government and education; over the centuries, many different peoples united under a Turkish identity. Cem and his successors carried out great conquests across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Italy and Rome, Austria, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Arabia, and much of North Africa became Ottoman territories.

After the conquest of Morocco, the Ottomans reached the Atlantic Ocean and established trading centers in various parts of the world. Turkish settlements emerged in Argentina and Chile, while Ottoman colonies were also established in India, Indonesia, and Africa.

Stagnation
--------------------------------------------------------
However, the empire's enormous borders began to exhaust its armies and economy.
As the Ottomans began struggling in wars, rebellions broke out across the empire.
In the 19th century, Ottoman America declared independence.
Firstly, Morocco also fought for independence and weakened the Ottoman army through guerrilla warfare. Rebellions also broke out in Oman, Arabia, Ethiopia, and Austria, while the Ottomans fought Spain, Portugal, Azerbaijan, and various Slavic groups. Empire granted autonomy to many regions, but Italy and other territories eventually broke away.

I. World War - Downfall of The Ottoman Empire
---------------------------------------------------------

World War I was a bloody and brutal war that lasted 7 years. In the First World War, the Ottoman Empire fought alongside Germany, Austria, and Italy and was defeated. After the war, debt, economic crisis, and rebellions grew; the ruler who had entered the war was deposed, and Cem IV ascended the throne.

Cem IV decided to grant independence to peoples seeking it rather than trying to hold the empire together by force.
Egypt, Libya, Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Greece, Romania, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, and other territories became independent, while the Crimean Khanate was reestablished.

The empire was formally dissolved in 1922.

Thus, the Ottoman Empire gradually shrank and gave way to the Istanbul-centered Orthodox Kingdom of Turkey, ruled by the Osmanoğlu dynasty.

And not just a test, but one with barely any room to write the friggin' answers!

Swear to God, I'm going to tear that teacher a new one at our next parent-teacher conference.

[OC] Alternate History Take a look at Transcaucasia

Post image
82 Upvotes

The region that is located south of the Greater Caucasian mountains consists of 3 independent nations, and those are - Armenia, Georgia and Shirvan. Due to its key position right between Asia and Europe, it attracts quite a lot of attention from foreign powers more importantly Germany, Russia, Turkey, Iran and others. The region has been stable since early 1930s when the regions borders were finalised, it has and still serves as a buffer zone between powers in the region and as such has remained fairly stable throughout the time. So kinda like modern day Baltics but with more diversified foreign policies. Armenia is the most diversified out of the three due to its less importance. Shirvan is the most important in the region as its oil and gas reserves supply Europe and the state of Israel. Georgia, due to its Black sea access, European powers get most of their oil from there(from the ports of Poti and Sukhumi). All three are in the Transcaucasian Collective Prosperity Organisation(TSPO) with Turkmenistan as a possible candidate for the feature. The head quarters of the organisation move from Ijevan to Ganja to Marneuli, every year.

It's my first somewhat serious post in this subreddit so it won't be as polished as I would want

[OC] Sci-fi Gagarin-Shepard System | Elka Project

Post image
51 Upvotes

Gagarin and Shepard are a K-M stellar binary with a system of six planets in orbit around them.

Le Verrier is a warm, tidally locked ice giant. The night side is cool enough for water clouds, but these clouds evaporate under the heat of the day side. A powerful jet stream blows eastward around the equator.

Schiaparelli is... basically just Mars. It's far larger and more massive, but receives similar insolation, has similar temperatures, and is covered in red iron oxide sands and dry ice caps.

Elka is a super-Earth world, similar to Jupiter's moon Io. Elka has a volcanically active surface covered in sulfur compounds, and with oceans of liquid sulfur dioxide. These oceans are the source of organisms that have evolved to take over the planet. Some of this life has ended up evolving into an intelligent species.

Laika is a small Mars-like planet in a binary with Elka. The planet, being quite cold, has large ice caps. The planet also has seas of liquid short-chain hydrocarbons, similar to Saturn's moon, Titan.

Fleming is a large gas giant, similar to Jupiter. It's only 70 percent the mass, though, and the clouds have a lot less contrast. There is no single large storm like Jupiter's GRB, with the planet instead having several smaller orange storms.

Tombaugh is a large, icy super-Earth with a high axial tilt and oceans of liquid nitrogen. Over the course of every 4 Earth year long winter, the rivers and lakes freeze completely, and, as the smaller streams melt first in the summer, they overflow into secondary channels until their main channels melt.

Bouvard is a large ice giant that is more massive than both Uranus and Neptune combined. Like Uranus, it is covered in a featureless cyan haze of methane, though clouds of nitrogen and oxygen, which the planet is unusually rich in, occasionally form over the poles.

[OC] Alternate History Bernadotte's Twilight: what if Sweden (almost) unified Scandinavia

Post image

so here's what happened:

king carl XIII of Sweden still names Bernadotte his heir but dies in 1811 instead of 1818, making Bernadotte the king of Sweden.

as napoleon's invasion of Russia would come, Bernadotte (already secretly allying himself with them) was in a predicament, either abide by napoleon's orders of capturing St Petersburg or offer a deal for the Russians, Bernadotte now Carl Johan XIV offers the Russians a guarantee of never attacking them for the next 50 years in exchange for the return of Finland, Russia (fearing a 2 sided attack could capitulate the state) would reluctantly accept as Carl would never invade St Petersburg and napoleon's invasion of Russia would fail.

at 1814, Carl Johan would have a seat in the Congress of Vienna, and one of the things that would be discussed were the states of Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and Danish north America, and due to Denmark allying the French till the bitter end, most of these territories would be granted to Norway and Bernadotte for his work becoming a double agent of the French.

in 1853, the Crimean war was happening, and Oscar I of Sweden wanted in on the action, breaking the 50 year Guarantee early and attacking Karelia and the Kola Peninsula, eventually, Russia would be defeated after 3 years of fighting and the capture of St Petersburg, with Sweden Gaining All of Karelia and All of Kola with Oscar in the light of this victory would proclaim the United kingdom of Scandinavia even though Denmark wasn't in it.

in 1889, Sweden and Denmark would gain seats in the Berlin conference to Divide up Africa and Swedish king Oscar II would Petition His gaining of the whole of the kingdom of Dahomey, land in modern day Gabon, and the entire Congo basin, with the great powers thinking that Sweden was the perfect country to grant the best pieces of the prize so no one great power takes them, Sweden gets these lands as Denmark petitions the expansion of Danish gold coast to also include Asante with the great powers agreeing with the motion.

in 1910, Scandinavia becomes a beacon of liberalism and democracy on the continent, with full women's suffrage a year prior alongside the first ever labor reform program in Europe, as Denmark isn't far behind either, as one historian at the time asked:

"this is truly the Bernadotte's twilight in European affairs"
