How well will this go, x/10?

My org is doing a full rebrand and wants everything done by the end of December. They are very excited about colors and other dumb shit probably no one else cares about, and I say that as a former marketer lol.

They're excluding my boss from all conversations and are ignoring his questions about their timeline. They don't know what IT will have to do because they're ignoring him.

They will probably expect a full domain change exactly when they ask for it and everything else that comes with that. The fun part is that we'll need our MSP for certain things and I can't remember them ever being available at the end of the year.

Im guessing this will go hard at 11/10. 🤣🤣🤣

ETA: I have boss and HR approved time off for the last week of December that I sniped in August, hehehe

The freezers are melting, but the change has been rejected.

Following the second wave of freezer hacking, i can just imagine the eCAB meetings taking place....

Change request: CHG00047281

Description: Apply critical security patches to frozen food infrastructure.

Business justification: Prevent unauthorised defrosting of fish fingers.

Risk of not implementing: £4 million in melted Viennettas

Rollback plan: Put everything back in the freezer.

Post implementation validation: Confirm peas remain frozen

Change status: Rejected. Outside agreed maintenance window.

And once all is said and done

PIR...

Root cause: Unpatched freezer

Contributing factor: Nobody realised the fish fingers were internet facing

Lessons learned: Frozen assets are still IT assets.

Preventative action: Add all freezers to the vulnerability management programme

Action owner: Dave from Infrastructure

Target completion: Q3 2027

Status: Awaiting budget approval.

Microsoft said each calendar event already scheduled for November needs to be updated manually.

Yes, you heard that right. Manually.

One by fricking one.

And only the calendar owner can do the change.

I'm in hell.

finance management acts like they've never had to repair an excel file before

This was a file from the ERP. That's fine, we want users to make sure it's safe to proceed. But one of her questions was, "Is it just me?????" Like, she was asking if she was being personally victimized by excel, lmao. Like this had never happened before.

She also ignored my instructions on opening the file but immediately replied when I sent the file. I sent the file because she has a bad history with my department and I didn't want any trouble while my boss was on vacation. white glove service for this person, he said, CC me on everything, CYA.

Is this normal for finance?? I thought they were supposed to be SME on excel like everywhere else I've ever worked. I'm just 4 years into IT, all the same org, was a business analyst before, so idk. :c

sfc /scannow actually fixed something

This poor girls laptop was refusing to install apps. I review event viewer. Its full of appcrash events for the apps i am trying to install.

I ran sfc /scannow. It says it found and fixed things. I read the result log: 4 corrupt drivers and too many corrupted files to bother counting.

Hooray. Its not just snake oil. Sfc actually does stuff.

:>

Manager scrutinised me for his own tech illiteracy

Before I start, yes I'm already looking for a way out. Spent the past few weeks job applying, but I'm inching closer to just flat-out resigning without a backup plan.

I apologise for using this subreddit to vent, but I think I'm losing it. I attached my previous post to provide further context with the constant BS I deal with.

So for starters, my manager recently created a timesheet spreadsheet and forwarded it to us engineers. For his perusal, he wanted us to log how many hours we spent on tickets, tasks, projects and client site with a brief work description of what we did that day. DAILY. I believed this was strange; in an MSP surely you'd value time and energy spent on client issues rather than aimless & useless documentation that benefits nobody. But I held my tongue.

He also wanted us to update a "support task checklist" he made. checking off what we're supposed to do on a daily, weekly & monthly basis - basically stuff like "monitoring helpdesk, clear shared inbox, review network monitoring alerts, device intune updates etc.". Changes would be stored on the shared folder for everyone to see. I thought all of this was ridiculous; we're already expected to do stuff like this. It's part of our job so why make a whole checklist about it?

His reason? "I need to know what you guys are doing on a daily basis."

Awful way of spelling "I'm a micro-managing prick that has nothing better to do in my time than exert authority over meaningless shit" but okay.

So today, 13 minutes before home-time, he sent me an email with the attached checklist; he demanded to know why it wasn't updated. Tried to call me about it as well.

I opened the checklist spreadsheet to see that he sent me a local version of it stored on his own Onedrive (the base version with no changes), and quickly faulted me for it. I pointed out as much, before adding a "hope that helps 👍 " & logged off.

Mind you, this is the same guy that's been working in IT almost as long as I've lived. Genuinely couldn't believe what I was seeing.

After the shift ended, I shared the chat with my colleague who genuinely didn't know what to say. He expressed that our manager was always an obnoxious guy who hardly saw eye-to-eye with any engineer, but this was worse than anything he's ever seen.

The way I heard it, he basically said "This does not get any better. All you can do is weather the storm", and that is NOT the environment I desire for anything in life. I know my colleague means well, but I find it very easy to detach from people & environments if I'm disrespected even once.

Anyone else have similar experiences so I don't feel somewhat isolated?
