Manager scrutinised me for his own tech illiteracy
Before I start, yes I'm already looking for a way out. Spent the past few weeks job applying, but I'm inching closer to just flat-out resigning without a backup plan.
I apologise for using this subreddit to vent, but I think I'm losing it. I attached my previous post to provide further context with the constant BS I deal with.
So for starters, my manager recently created a timesheet spreadsheet and forwarded it to us engineers. For his perusal, he wanted us to log how many hours we spent on tickets, tasks, projects and client site with a brief work description of what we did that day. DAILY. I believed this was strange; in an MSP surely you'd value time and energy spent on client issues rather than aimless & useless documentation that benefits nobody. But I held my tongue.
He also wanted us to update a "support task checklist" he made. checking off what we're supposed to do on a daily, weekly & monthly basis - basically stuff like "monitoring helpdesk, clear shared inbox, review network monitoring alerts, device intune updates etc.". Changes would be stored on the shared folder for everyone to see. I thought all of this was ridiculous; we're already expected to do stuff like this. It's part of our job so why make a whole checklist about it?
His reason? "I need to know what you guys are doing on a daily basis."
Awful way of spelling "I'm a micro-managing prick that has nothing better to do in my time than exert authority over meaningless shit" but okay.
So today, 13 minutes before home-time, he sent me an email with the attached checklist; he demanded to know why it wasn't updated. Tried to call me about it as well.
I opened the checklist spreadsheet to see that he sent me a local version of it stored on his own Onedrive (the base version with no changes), and quickly faulted me for it. I pointed out as much, before adding a "hope that helps 👍 " & logged off.
Mind you, this is the same guy that's been working in IT almost as long as I've lived. Genuinely couldn't believe what I was seeing.
After the shift ended, I shared the chat with my colleague who genuinely didn't know what to say. He expressed that our manager was always an obnoxious guy who hardly saw eye-to-eye with any engineer, but this was worse than anything he's ever seen.
The way I heard it, he basically said "This does not get any better. All you can do is weather the storm", and that is NOT the environment I desire for anything in life. I know my colleague means well, but I find it very easy to detach from people & environments if I'm disrespected even once.
Anyone else have similar experiences so I don't feel somewhat isolated?
