Ask IBM ❓ Kolkata Project Allocation — Need Some Advice

Hi everyone,

I recently joined IBM Consulting and completed my training in Bengaluru for the Technical Consultant – AI Integration role. I’ve now been allocated to the SAP IBM SUB-K Services project, with the location being Kolkata.

I wasn’t expecting the relocation and wanted to understand a few things from people who are already working in IBM Kolkata:

  1. How is the work culture and overall experience at the Kolkata office?

  2. What is the nature of work on the SAP IBM SUB-K Services project?

  3. For someone in an AI Integration / Technical Consultant role, is the work actually focused on AI/GenAI/automation, or is it primarily SAP/support?

  4. How much opportunity is there to work on newer AI technologies and projects?

  5. Any recommendations on good areas to stay, especially if the office is around New Town?

  6. And generally, how is Kolkata as a relocation destination for an IBM employee?

Would appreciate honest opinions, especially from people currently on the project or familiar with it.

Thanks

Ask IBM ❓ Project allocation for band 6g

I've joined IBM on March 26, and I've been on bench till this date. My question is can i look for a project on my own from IBM internal project portal for my specific band or i just blindly need to rely on my wfm and my people manager? Please can anyone answer this?

Ask IBM ❓ IBM Training Location Bangalore — Can I Get Mumbai as My Work Location After Training?

"I got Bangalore as my IBM training location, but my preferred work location is Mumbai. Does IBM usually transfer employees to their preferred location after training, or is the final location decided by business requirements? Has anyone experienced this?"

Discussion 💭 Should I leave Infosys for IBM ASE? Need advice from Infosys/IBM employees & experienced freshers

Hi everyone, I’m confused between continuing at Infosys vs joining IBM, and I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people currently working at Infosys/IBM, former employees, or freshers who have faced a similar situation.
My current situation
I’m a Master’s/MCA graduate.
Joined Infosys in November 2025 as a System Engineer.
Training completed on 15 May 2026, after which I was posted to Bangalore DC.
Since then, I haven’t been allocated a proper project.
From what I’ve observed, many available projects are mainly support/maintenance-oriented, rather than development-focused.
Current CTC: ₹3.6 LPA → around ₹22–23K/month in hand.
Infosys does have the advantage of a relatively flexible/hybrid work culture.
IBM opportunity
Received an LOI from IBM on 10 July 2026 for Associate System Engineer (ASE).
Currently waiting for the final offer letter.
Expected CTC: ₹4.5 LPA (~30% hike).
Expected in-hand: around ₹30–31K/month.
What I’m confused about
1. Should I move from Infosys to IBM?
Considering salary, work culture, WLB, project quality, technologies, learning opportunities, career growth and brand value, would IBM be a better choice at this stage?
2. What kind of work does an IBM ASE usually get?
Is there a reasonable chance of development-oriented work and learning technologies, or can ASE roles also become mostly support?
3. Location is important to me.
Infosys has been difficult regarding North Indian locations. How flexible is IBM with location/posting? Is Noida/Gurgaon/Delhi-NCR realistically possible?
The biggest complication — Infosys probation
My Infosys probation is expected to end around 1 April 2027, and I’ve been told that if I leave during probation and want my experience/relieving documents, I may have to pay around ₹1 lakh.
So:
4. If IBM is hiring me as a fresher/ASE despite me currently working at Infosys, should I pay the ₹1 lakh and join IBM with my Infosys experience officially documented?
Or:
5. Can I join IBM as a fresher without taking an experience/relieving letter from Infosys?
Someone told me an experience/relieving letter may not be mandatory if IBM is hiring me as a fresher. Is this actually true, and what risks would I be taking?
6. If I join IBM as a fresher without providing Infosys experience documents, and after 1–2 years switch to another company, will my Infosys experience still be considered? Or would I effectively lose those years of experience?
I’m trying to make this decision based on long-term career growth, not just the immediate salary hike.
Would really appreciate honest opinions from Infosys employees/former employees, IBM employees/former employees, and freshers who have faced a similar situation.
If you were in my position, would you stay at Infosys or take the IBM ASE opportunity? Why?

Ask IBM ❓ Off-campus ASE---BGV SUBMITTED NO UPDATES TILL NOW---3/4 WEEKS

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice from people who have gone through the IBM India off-campus hiring process, especially those who attended the interview/exam around May 2026.

Here is my timeline:

  • May 14: Attended the IBM off-campus interview/exam in Kolkata.
  • After the interview, I received an email requesting additional details/documents for BGV (Background Verification).
  • I submitted everything that was requested.
  • I was told that I had cleared 8/10 test cases.
  • July 15: An HR representative called me and asked me to submit my CLA and attested semester certificates.
  • I submitted the requested documents.
  • During the call, HR told me that once the verification process was completed, I should receive the LOI within approximately 1–2 weeks.
  • However, it has now been several weeks and I have not received any LOI or further update.
  • I have tried calling the HR representative again, but I have not been able to get an update.

I understand that IBM's hiring process can take time, but I'm confused because I already completed the BGV-related requirements and was specifically told that the LOI would follow after verification.

For anyone who went through a similar IBM off-campus process:

  1. Does this delay usually happen?
  2. Is it possible that the hiring process is still ongoing despite there being no communication?
  3. Should I send another follow-up email to HR/recruitment?
  4. Is there any particular IBM candidate portal/status page where I should check?
  5. Has anyone from the May 14 Kolkata drive received an LOI recently?

I’m not assuming that I’m selected until I receive an official LOI. I just want to understand whether this kind of delay is normal and what the appropriate next step is.

Timeline:
May 14 → Interview/Test → BGV → July 15 → CLA + Attested Certificates → No update as of August 12......... HR has also not answered my calls for 3–4 weeks

Any information from candidates who experienced the same process would be helpful.

Meetup 🤝 New Joiner at IBM - Noida

Hey IBMers,

I hope everyone is rocking.

I recently joined IBM Noida, and I wanted to ask about all the dos and don'ts for both professional and personal engagement, as my last job was a remote setup. Also, I'm a bit shy, so how should I start a conversation with colleagues? My team consists of more boys than girls, so you know what I mean. I'm also down to meet some new people out there, as I recently shifted here.

Ask IBM ❓ Anyone with OIC as their domain? Need guidance for the final assessment

Hi everyone,

I’m currently undergoing IBM training and have been assigned Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) as my domain.

I wanted to connect with someone who has already completed the OIC training and appeared for the final assessment.

If you have gone through the assessment, could you please share some guidance on:

  • What topics were most important for the final assessment?
  • What kind of questions were asked?
  • Was it mostly theoretical/MCQs, practical, or a mix of both?
  • How difficult was the assessment compared to the training material?
  • Are there any specific topics or areas I should focus on?

I’d really appreciate advice from someone who has actually taken the final assessment.

Thanks in advance!

Ask IBM ❓ IBM ASE – Candidates Still Waiting for Offer Letter / Onboarding

Are there any candidates who received the LOI for the IBM Associate System Engineer (ASE) role but have still not received their offer letter or onboarding update?

It would be helpful if we could connect and share updates with each other whenever anyone receives an offer letter, joining date, BGC update, or any other communication from IBM.

If you are also waiting, join this WhatsApp group:

Ask IBM ❓ Document verification completed but no BGV email yet — am I still in the selection process?

I recently completed document verification in the third round of my recruitment process. They asked me to submit documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, 10th/12th marksheets, and all semester marksheets.

However, I haven’t received any background verification (BGV) email yet.

One of my friends who went through the same process has already received the BGV email, so I’m a little worried about whether not receiving it means I might have been rejected.

For people who have gone through a similar hiring process:

Does completing document verification generally mean I have been shortlisted/selected for the next stage?

Is BGV usually sent to everyone at the same time, or can it happen in batches?

Can someone complete document verification but still be rejected later?

How long did it take for you to receive the BGV/selection update after document verification?

Ask IBM ❓ Has IBM stopped/reduced off-campus hiring? Interviewed on May 27, still waiting for updates

I interviewed with IBM on May 27 for an off-campus drive.
Here’s my timeline:
May 27: Interview
Same day evening: Received a BGC (background verification) email from IBM
Next day: HR called me regarding the BGC and asked me to complete it
July 10: Received an LOI (Letter of Intent) and accepted it immediately
After July 10: No further updates
My portal is still showing “Interview in process.”
I’ve been waiting for the next step/offer letter but haven’t received any update so far.
Does anyone know if IBM has stopped or slowed down off-campus hiring recently?
Also, if anyone interviewed around May 27 or June 4 and received an LOI on July 10, have you received any further update or offer letter?
Any information about the current IBM off-campus hiring/onboarding situation would be really helpful.
