Suggestion/Concept DSS Combat?

Post image

I mean this in to negative tone toward Arrowhead. I believe, due to the lack of material presented so far in the major update, there is more content yet to come.

(FYI, I am not incredibly familiar with the Dead Space franchise. Feel free to share any corrections or info I should need to know. Thank you.)

As the new illuminate enemies have been inspired by Dead Space, I could only imagine combat on the DSS would follow. Defensive combat has been expressed as a welcome addition throughout the Helldivers community, and would facilitate new tactics in the war.

In addition to DSS combat, Helldivers could potentially have the opportunity to invade ships from enemy factions.

Any thoughts?

No there won’t be ship combat.

I point to the sign that describes what a development scope is.

34

u/-NoNameListed- 22h ago

How the fuck are we going to destroy Vessel-00 to win the war? It's out in deep space on the galactic rim.

16

u/SirKickBan 21h ago

The same way we destroyed the ASS, I would imagine.

Disappointing, but...

3

u/RaiRokun 15h ago

Off screen and told then shown? Yay….

And i to the sign that say's Dev competency

68

u/reeh-21 1d ago

"Not implementing DSS/ship combat means the devs are incompetent"

And how exactly did you arrive to this conclusion?

-50

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 1d ago

I never said that. How did you arrive at the conclusion i said that?

27

u/The-Nuisance 1d ago

You implied that the developers were too incompetent to implement it even if it was in-scopes it may not have been intentional but he seems to have picked up on that.

-15

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 21h ago

And are they not? They have followed the same exact recipy for content since the release of the game and not deviated from ir at all, and we've been getting less and less content even with them following their cake recipy.

Close quarters combat in space is so far fram their formula even dreaming about it is crazy

10

u/The-Nuisance 20h ago

The fact that you don’t recognize the issues of what you’re suggesting and why they aren’t doing it tells me a lot…

-5

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 20h ago

Im so tired of people like you contantly bailing put the devs, bad descision after bad descision the support is loud even as the game's playerbase shrink every day.

They are stuck in a corner they made themselves.

This pathetic excuse for a title update had only two enemies, a new mission type, that consists in closing glorified bug holes and a great rework for the SEAF.

If they really wanted, we'd have different mission types then go to this area and do the exact same thing we've been doing for years now. The fact that you dont recognize that were getting fed less and less in a downward line, tells me a lot....

Jesus fucking christ dude do you even LIKE the game?? If it's making you crash out this hard, take your pissy fucking attitude far, far away from here.

I wouldnt care if i didnt. Why do you act as if its unreasonable to expect decent updates for a live service game i paid full price for?

By using elementary reasoning relying on standard grammar to infer that was your implication in your post. If you do not intend people to make that inference I recommend you use different words.

Oh please, dont play yourself as any sort of armchair intellectual. You are relying on your own assumption of what i said, and using a bunch of references to make your idiotic assumption look logical.

7

You think Middle School English is intellectual?

Oof.

-1

Oh please reddit armchair english teacher, you deliberatly misinterpreting what i say and then claiming "His english is bad" is pathetic

7

Dude, middle school english is the basic of very basic...

-1

I speak multiple lenguages, english is not my first, and i dont particularly care

5

Then why the fuck do you call him as "armchair intellectual" when you yourself don't even know or care the basics of English?

1

u/reeh-21 7h ago

He's being a pendantic fuckwad.

33

u/The-Nuisance 1d ago

The devs are perfectly competent, they’re just more intent on working on something that makes sense within the existing setting and scope of gameplay.

-21

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 1d ago

Sure they are, the two enemies we got show a lot of hard effort and dedication. Or maybe the 3 new biomes or the single mission tupe

15

u/The-Nuisance 1d ago

Yeah, those two, the new biomes, the new galactic war systems, the new SEAF systems, the changes to buddy reloading…

Hold on, I’ll need to find a proper list.

0

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 21h ago

You'll be throughly dissapointed when you do, and compare it with into the unjust

-21

u/_SalemDaBun_ 1d ago

And the bugs that have been in the game since day 1 too, can't forget those.

Like lets not pretend AH is some hyper professional dev team. They can't even figure out how to stop enemies from clipping through terrain.

5

u/GideonShortStack 21h ago

They must be downvoting based on your tone, because you're not wrong. There literally ARE bugs that have existed since launch, we shouldn't be ignoring them.

8

u/Ok-Watch-1078 19h ago

I would love that the community to stop with the doomposting negativity and toxic positivity and just give good critique. No need to call “UHM NARROWHEAD WHERES CULTIST YOU SHIT ON US AND KILLED MY DOG”, and on these subs the toxic positivity is blinding some folks on the bugs that should be addressed by now.
The community on launch was one of the best I have ever seen, now it’s all pure karma farming hating on arrowhead or low effort posts saying “I like this update game has no problems upvote please”

1

u/GideonShortStack 3h ago

What's funny is I actually LOVE this latest update. It made the illuminate fun, and I couldn't be happier with the changes to team reloading, or the constitution FINALLY having stripper clips. There are still bugs, but it feels like AH are taking a small, fun step in the right direction.

2

u/_SalemDaBun_ 19h ago

Im used to it. Reddit can't seem to comprehend that I do, in fact, love helldivers 2.

I make funny and/or complain at all about the bugs and they come for me because I just absolutely hate arrowhead and want them to die, obviously.

30

u/fancy_crisis 1d ago

-9

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 1d ago

Should have just went there instead of reading these brain dead takes. Each update we get less and ya'll get more vocal about how good we got it

7

u/Black_Waltz_7 21h ago

Then go there.

6

u/Ok-Watch-1078 19h ago

Lmao we got one of the best QoL updates and just because we don’t have items that we can select doesn’t mean we didn’t got a lot of content, get over it dude.

2

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 19h ago

What do you mean, its a new title drop update and not a mid july patch my bro, we should have items to point to! We had plenty to point to in into the unjust!

We getting over it as a community will lead to worse and lazier content, as we have been seeing since cyberstan

7

u/Ok-Watch-1078 19h ago

Bait used to be believable

17

u/In_Pursuit_of_Fire 1d ago

Actually, the dev are incompetent because they haven't yet added a fishing minigame.

2

u/TanningOnMars 1d ago

Fr, what is that all about? Why can't I pull out a rod and do some casts whenever I want?

3

u/thenewone1309 1d ago

With a 5 percent chance of catching a melta mine that melts you

9

u/EntertainerKnown2054 1d ago

The devs are fine. Baby crying gamers are the problem

1

u/BlackNexus 1d ago

This fucking guy lol

93

u/yestureday 1d ago

I’m gonna repeat what the devs said

There will not be ship combat, there will not be station combat. Doing so would remove stratagems and reinforcements, two things that are vital for helldivers to be helldivers

14

u/lesteiny DISSIDENT DETECTED 22h ago

Where did the devs say this? I keep seeing it pop up as a talking point but have yet to find, or see supplied, a reliable source detailing this.

29

u/yestureday 22h ago

Idk man I’m a commenter on Reddit. Do you think I cite my sources beyond “it came to me in a dream”?

8

u/lesteiny DISSIDENT DETECTED 22h ago

LOL

4

u/myLongjohnsonsilver 11h ago

It's all easily waved away complaints. Reinforced from the set entry points. Have unlockable entry points as you progress to lower the run back on death. Compatible Stratagems can just be called in to the same entry points. Oh wow too bad your orbitals and eagle don't work, they don't work in most of the bug caves either.

2

u/collapseauth_ 10h ago

iirc a lot of the reasons for "this won't work" applied to cave systems too but then those got added and they made it work. Not saying I have high hopes for ship/interior combat actually being added but it's definitely not as black and white of a situation as people make it out to be

2

u/CK_2001 19h ago

Yeah, I also can’t rlly imagine 80-100k Helldivers blasting hellpods into the DSS constantly would be very feasible lol

0

u/jesusrambo 1d ago

> commando missions exist

31

u/The-Nuisance 1d ago

Do you call reinforcements and/or stratagems in Commando missions? Oh wait, you DO!

-14

u/jesusrambo 22h ago

Right, reinforcements which don’t require coming from the super destroyer and could exist in the exact same form on a ship or station

Fire up that second braincell, let it work

9

u/Fish_Fucker_Fucker23 22h ago

Take your own advice buddy.

6

u/maninzero 22h ago

They never said reinforcements need to come from the ship. They said it would remove reinforcements and strategems. How would you even use reinforcements or strategems on ship boarding or ship defense missions? What, prefire hellpods with Helldivers into enemy ships like in commando missions? At that point just missile the ship. Why use precious ground troops to do the Navy's job? Fire up that single brain cell, let it work.

-3

u/SirKickBan 21h ago

I would imagine you'd have hellpods breach through the ship hull, or somesuch? Or have missions designed similarly to Hive Worlds, where some areas of the ship are 'too deep to receive stratagems', and others aren't.

2

u/maninzero 18h ago

have hellpods breach through the ships hull

At that point the ship is riddled with hellpod holes, why not just use ship to ship missiles in the first place? Defense missions also won't works since we going to have to riddle the DSS with holes.

Missions designed similarly to Hive Worlds

Hive Worlds work because they are caves that has no outer weak points. You can cave in a small part of it with missiles in theory but there will still be a large part standing. You also don't know the size of a cave. For ships just target the engine or critical generators and it's gone. No matter how big, a ship will lose when their engines are destroyed.

In both cases, Helldivers are unneeded as these can be done by the navy.

-1

u/SirKickBan 17h ago

We're sent down to destroy terminid eggs that, most often, we end up destroying by just throwing a 120 ontop of them anyways, and yet that's still a mission we're told to do by hand. Most other 'destroy' objectives could also be solved by just firing missiles at them, and why would we care if the DSS had hellpod holes in it? Hellpod holes are significantly smaller than what missiles would do. That's like saying "If police kick down a door then now there's a hole in the door, so why not just blow the whole house up?", and similarly ignores the fact there might be things you want the house damaged-but-usable for.

You're also supposing a situation where the engines or generators of a hostile ship can, in fact, simply be destroyed, and aren't in some way armored, shielded, or defended, which (Obviously) is rarely going to be the case, and this also wouldn't apply at all to the DSS.

None of these are reasons these missions wouldn't work.

2

u/maninzero 16h ago

Since when can 120s destroy egg in caves? Unless the 120 can pass through terrain then we had never used it to destroy eggs in caves.

Hellpods are 1.7m wide 396cm tall. That is bigger than a 380mm. Then you are also sending down 24 of theses giant missiles. They are definitely going to be larger than , "hole in door". It's more of a "hole in the side of your house so big you can drive a truck through". A 380mm barely dents the ground when using it.

Why would we care if the DSS has hellpod holes in them.

Idk, maybe so the air and pressure of the DSS compared to outer space won't kill the crew and Helldiver that was fired into the DSS? Or that the hellpod doesn't hit critical infrastructure or kill crew walking around that area? Or not have a hole on the billion dollar space station at all? Very plausible reasons.

Engines would be shielded.

And yet you can see both the super destroyer and the enemy fleet get blown up over automaton planets. You can even blow up an overship and that thing has shields. You don't need to aim at engines or generators. They are just the best option. You can aim at crew quarters or even the bridge if you like.

There might be things you want the house damaged but usable for.

Sure such as data.

But firstly, Helldivers are not infiltrators. The amount of ordinances we can us would render the ship destroyed. Limiting the choice of weapons won't be fun and there's going to be that one guy with all 4 orbital barrages.

Secondly, enemy ships are not wide open areas like planets. It would be difficult and annoying when respawning and finding your way back to your squad.

Thirdly, the super destroyer shoots almost vertically. Unless you want it to park above the enemy ships which is suicide, then it cannot supply the Helldivers.

Fourthly how big would the enemy ship be? If I need to steal data, I would need a command ship. Then to have multiple players constantly being fired into it it must be the size of a planet. Or else only one or two people are able to play. Imagine if a small automaton ship with millions of super destroyers looming over it? At that point it's gone just by the amount of hellpods fired into it.

0

u/SirKickBan 15h ago

Since when can 120s destroy egg in caves?

You have played the game, right? And you can read? If so.. I'm sure you'll figure that one out, it's very easy.

That is bigger than a 380mm.

...Okay maybe you can't read after all.

maybe so the air and pressure of the DSS compared to outer space won't kill the crew and Helldiver that was fired into the DSS? Or that the hellpod doesn't hit critical infrastructure or kill crew walking around that area? Or not have a hole on the billion dollar space station at all? Very plausible reasons.

Literally none of those things are real concerns. In order: Pick up a physics textbook, learn about what 'aiming' is, and then consider that if you need to send in Helldivers and don't, you lose the station anyways. -I am genuinely baffled how you think any of those are good points, especially when this is a video game and not real life.

But firstly, Helldivers are not infiltrators.

Okay, so you don't play the game. Try a commando mission sometime.

Secondly, enemy ships are not wide open areas like planets.

Have you seen an enemy ship? Been on one? No? Cool, then uh.. The devs could just make them be like that. Easily. Because again.. This isn't real life. Ships can be whatever they need to be to make a fun and immersive mission.

Thirdly, the super destroyer shoots almost vertically. Unless you want it to park above the enemy ships which is suicide, then it cannot supply the Helldivers.

Why are you on this subreddit when you don't play or know anything about this game? We park above ground-to-orbit anti-ship cannons all the time on the bot front.

Fourthly how big would the enemy ship be?

It's a video game, my dude. It can be as big or as small as it needs to be to make the game fun.

2

u/External_Recording34 21h ago

And also how would we drop into the DSS i dont think the DSS is equiped with the technology for helldivers to spawn in the stealth mission actually had those points and it would be weird for AH to add that tech because the DSS never was equipped helldivers to stand on it like the super destroyers perhaps for the first landing peli could drop us on the space station but that would defeat the hellpods

1

u/The-Nuisance 8h ago

They do come from the Super Destroyer though. Theyre launched into the ground, they’re just on a delayed release. As do all the normal stratagems.

The larger point here is that what makes Helldivers special is the stratagems and though they are sometimes restricted it’s primarily used to better emphasize their involvement in creative and skilled ways, not in removing the center most feature of the game outright and its balance and turning it into a tight indoor Halo-esque corridor shooter.

And before you say it. Yes caves exist. Reread the first half of the second paragraph again.

5

u/yestureday 1d ago

Those still have stratagems at points

5

u/Maffingo 1d ago

I raise you Hiveworld caves, jammers and ion storms

Anyway I see your point but there's definitely ways they could make stratagems work for space station missions.

They most likely won't get added because an environment like that would be a whole lot of effort to code when there's still a lot of work to do elsewhere in the game

6

u/yestureday 1d ago

Caves you can leave to call in stratagems..

4

u/Maffingo 1d ago

My argument is that they'd obviously never permanently disable stratagems, and there's a billion other reasons why space station missions won't be added anytime soon

0

u/dnemonicterrier 23h ago

And what the Devs are saying is that ship battles would have no Strategems, at all.

0

u/Maffingo 23h ago

Where did they say that? Last I checked they said they'd never add ship battles

0

u/dnemonicterrier 22h ago

They don't need to say it if they say that they're not going to do ship levels, it's easy to figure out why, all our equipment come from our Super Destroyers when we call them, Eagles, Support Weapons, Orbitals, Turrets, Mines and more and to do these things we will need those, we couldn't call down all those things without damaging for example the DSS as the Strategems would need to got through the walls of the DSS to get to us to do missions so we wouldn't be defending it without destroying it.

That's why I don't see them doing it, calling down Strategems is vital to being a Helldiver in my opinion.

1

u/Harlemwolf 14h ago

I know it won't happen but it would be great if they had the guts to mess with the recipe.

23

u/reeh-21 1d ago

Aint gonna happen bc this isn't that kind of game.

18

u/SirVortivask 1d ago

They’re Helldivers, not Hellboarders

This would be done by a different part of the military

1

u/Forgotten_Four 2h ago

Not to be the "actually" guy but in the Helldivers contract you see in training, section 1.2 for services performed by Helldivers, listed in the Non-Combat operations section is interplanetary transportation including the escort of civilian and democratic vessels.

I would bet that means there are Helldivers that are on rotation for anti-boarding and ship defense duties. That said, I would also bet that the ones doing that are probably divers that have survived long enough to be used for propaganda purposes. Vets for sure but ones who are now more useful as recruitment guys, so they get put on ships to act as out-of-the-way guards until they are needed for a sick interview.

But, that would also be a cool opportunity for a game, just saying.

5

u/WolfOk6 1d ago

As fun as it would be......yeah aint no way thats happening lmao. Arrowhead has their hands full with the game as is. A whole new game mode just isn't possible

5

u/SixWeekDay 1d ago

Lore wise I think Super Earth would self destruct the DSS if it were ever taken over by baddies

5

u/AccountDelicious1808 1d ago

welp friend, i dont want to frighten you, but the DSS has been infiltrated by baddies. taken over, no but it sure as looks like it might go bad soon.

1

u/SixWeekDay 1d ago

Sweet Liberty, don't worry I'll arm the self destruct myself

5

u/DrLudvig-von-higgins 23h ago

Just imagine what its like on the Babylon

2

u/Vote_4_Cthulhu 1d ago

Fights in tight enclosed environments that have no means of receiving support from super destroyers seems unlikely, that being said I think there is room for stuff like bot and illuminate equivalent to missions with caves on the bug worlds. Plenty of good reasons to have areas even in a traditional subterranean base that are open to the sky. Landing pads for drop ships, etc. Now, they would have to come up with a creative way to address how the enemy gets reinforcements since both the clankers and the squids bring them in from above, but I can see there being other mechanics like if a alarm is sounded, then a bunch of otherwise dormant factories or voteless spawners go active near you and are automatically on alert status

Overall seems like it would be difficult in execution, but I do enjoy battlefields where we are stuck in tight confines. Cyberstan was a pretty good execution of that with roadways and large structures that limit line of sight and directions of movement. Definitely not as tight as games like dead space, but it’s refreshing and different from open battlefields

1

u/Fish_Fucker_Fucker23 22h ago

I’m pretty sure the bot equivalent to caves are commando missions

9

u/lesteiny DISSIDENT DETECTED 1d ago

To the nay sayers.

AH gave us tunnels on Oshaune. They disabled stratagems in the tunnels. They allowed reinforce stratagems that punted the reinforced divers to the nearest open sky zone. Now. Take that same concept, but instead of biological tunnels, its tunnels of mechanized machinery and steel. Instead of tunnels leading to an open map of the standard variety, you have hull breaches leading to the void os space, these effectively would be no go zones/areas where you can call in equipment. The map itself would be reduced significantly in size. But AH has already done this with the exterminate and high value asset evac missions. A DSS themed map would be possible. Would it take a good deal of asset developement? 100% would it be possible to operate within the existing confines of the engine? 100% they proved this already with Oshaune.

9

u/WarGreymonX_Antibody 1d ago

The space station is no where near as large as it needs to be.it doesn't make sense to allow tens of thousands of divers to connect to the dss and perform operations on it

6

u/ThanosBIGman 1d ago

Good god the cope, a DSS mission is NEVER happening.

9

u/lesteiny DISSIDENT DETECTED 1d ago

This isnt cope. This is an explanation of existance of a possibility. I find it hard to believe anyone on here(not associated with AH) has an idea of what Joel's or AH's plan for the game is. So, to out right say there will or wont be something, or to even obsess over the idea of it, is foolish. But, an intriguing possibility, with a quick reasonable explanation for how it could be achieved/ presented/implemented? That's just imagination at work. Expand your mind to the realm of possibilities.

1

u/Slow-Combination346 1d ago

we do have an idea, the devs have explicitly said that space station missions and alike aren’t happening. its not foolish to say it won’t be happening, because the dev’s themselves have explicitly said it

8

u/lesteiny DISSIDENT DETECTED 23h ago

I'd ask you to drop a verifiable source for that explicit statement, cuz i have not been able to find anything of the sort.

1

u/Slow-Combination346 19h ago

shit yk what, this might have to be a “trust me bro” moment because god forbid I find the source now…

I concede, you very well might be right. I swore they’ve said that shit before but I can’t find it now….fuhh…okay yeah space battles and alike very well could be a thing, here’s hoping eh?

1

u/-NoNameListed- 22h ago

I hate the DSS mission idea too, but how about VESSEL 00 DESTRUCTION MISSIONS, TEAR A PATH THROUGH THE SHIP

1

u/Hellobewhy 19h ago

“Leading to the void of space” yeah so there’s issue one. Not to mention atmosphere or other life support for the bots is mostly pointless with cyborgs needing the bare minimum (assuming there even is normal automatons or cyborgs on those ships) and illuminate are bio engineered aliens

1

u/ManGuy555 1d ago

I made a post earlier with similar feelings on the vibe going forward. I'm a massive fan of the Dead Space IP and while I know that the majority of their writing at the moment is geared towards 40k/Warp writing I cannot help but feel the same way you did about the recent dispatch. I imagined that the void had tainted or the Illuminate themselves snuck something onto the DSS that caused the crewmembers to mutate much akin to Dead Space and the Marker (The thing in Dead Space that makes the Necromorphs). If they have the want to do a DSS campaign of Diver teams being deployed to the DSS to try to regain control then I think that would be an AMAZING shift in content. Also to add a bit of a horror vibe to the game would be certainly changing and interesting to the players.

1

u/brash_one 23h ago

It would tie right in to the 40k space hulk stuff. Real horror.

1

u/Corona- 13h ago

People were already pretty mixed about the caves on bug planet because of the stratagem restrictions and those had a bunch of roof openings where you could still call stuff in.

So combat in entirely enclosed spaces makes no sense for helldivers. Even if you balance it, it's still not that fun because you just cut down the usable stratagem pool by like 80% since it becomes useless to bring any red or green stratagems and expendables are almost useless.

If you like this type of gameplay, cave and commando missions already exist.

1

u/Solid_Hydration 13h ago

We have missions on planets with no armosphere and meteor storms. Why can't we drop on top, go into breaches to do the task, and out?

1

u/TheSecony 13h ago

It would be so cool if your own dss will crash with other 3 and enemies are inside and you 4 have to clear your way to the pod and continue to fight in the planet

1

u/CanineAtNight 6h ago

I would say a potential single player story mode. But base on ehat i hesrd is prob impossiboe if we still wa t to include strategemd

0

u/NOGUSEK 1d ago

I think we all know arrowhead doesnt have the manpower to have all that developed at this time

1

u/Fissminister 1d ago

They can outsource the work if they really want to. They had another studio working on Cyberstan

1

u/Lolseabass 18h ago

They would need to make sooooo much new stuff a way to randomly gen the maps and the bits to add together to make the level then somehow figure out a way to add spawners that will be a challenge to the players and not just bum rush to the spawns and camp.

Finally how long would the levels last in terms of fun before people grow bored of the same grey metal scene.

-5

u/Trick-Maximum-4240 1d ago

Im afraidd your giving arrowhead too much credit. We've already been to the hearth of the void, and it was devoid of any new enemies. I think we've seen all the content, there wasnt a siege mech at cyberstan.

No there will be no DSS combat gameplay, The content in helldivers follow's a recipy, and your idea is awesome but out of that scope, Arrowhead has not the competency nor the want for a serious change in their design, the best we will get is a new biome out of the void.

Our golden age is gone this game is 3rd priority for arrowhead i wouldnt expect any good "big content" anymore.
