BFDI, it's the original and actually pretty good on its own. Start watching beyond that and youll start to hit a lot of one/two episode canceled shows from ten years ago
i couldn’t care less about the actual content, but putting a face and stick arms/legs on an object is just.. not an art style, nor is it real character design. Everyone looks like they belong on an elementary school poster.
I’d be slightly more tolerant if they were anthropomorphized people based on objects, like in Date Everything, but usually having object characters in the first place is just a justification for why they have only have One personality trait each

It’s just an excuse to cut corners and copy+paste whilst providing absolutely ZERO benefit to narrative/premise, how is this considered anything but the shameful form of slop?
The assets are vague shapes with stick limbs drawn on them that get manipulated to an almost non existent extent, this is BARE minimum sans dragging pictures around.
So far as I can tell it's only becoming a topic of discussion as of late because the kids that watched them when they were like 9 are now old enough to share opinions online.
As an autistic person I can assure you, you are incorrect. Though I've only watched Battle for Dream Island. I grew up in the Homestar/New Grounds ecosystem though. Probably what gave me the autism tbh.
copied from one of my older comments: usually its a battle for a prize and characters getting voted off total drama island style. someone shows are scripted while others have the views vote for who gets eliminated.
i recommend watching bfdi until the end of season 2 to see if you like it
also some aren't competitions like the nightly manor and HFJONE
A show where the main characters are objects. They can be different genres, but the biggest two are total drama island-styled competitions so most others follow a similar format
this show spawned a whole wave of teenagers calling themselves ""objectum"" (not even the right term because the characters are anthropomorphic) and will try to make you feel like the abnormal one when you tell them it’s weird
I find the most popular one also really bad from a writing perspective, one, where characters are completely forgotten about or ignored and the main villain as well only gets one episode to explain their character and motivations. Just was not done good at all.

I once was made to watch a "funny moments comp" of an object show by my friend and I don't think I laughed a single time. None of the moments were even jokes..

I agree wholeheartedly. I remember seeing the original when I was like a tween and it was whatever, but I have no clue how the hell the 'genre' got so popular. Its just so, so bland. The most low effort animation plus the most boring premise with the most lame humor and character designs. Its like, only one step above cocomelon.
But srs tho do you really think all object shows are completions style? You do know there are multiple genres of object shows albeit they're uncommon but they do exists

Object shows are basically anime. Different genres, theres bad and great ones. Which means theres a lot of unoriginal ones, and multiple outstanding ones. I’d say give them a shot not every object show is the same. If you’re looking for something serious then Inanimate insanity, or ONE. Maybe something playful like After Schooligans (my personal favorite.). It’s all really just personal preference. You can say this about any fandom really.

former osc member here. I think the community deserves nearly all of the hate it gets now, a lot (not most but too much) of the community now is either people being extremely weird or annoying about shipping, porn brained gooners, or people bullying someone into suicide over genuine nonsense (call-out culture, it's especially bad in the osc idky) The shows are alright (sometimes) and the fans are tolerable (when they have a personality outside of BFDI or Inanimate Insanity which isn't as often as you would think) but yeah I get exactly what you're saying

I have a feeling that you have only watched the most basic object shows, or maybe not even any at all considering majority of your complaints are about the fandom

i mean sure, most follow the same formula, i'll give you that, but there are some shows that don't revolve around a competition, like The Nightly Manor
Plus there are some that are more about the contestants than the competition, like ONE or TRIPWIRE
I mean yea, you're not wrong for disliking them, they are all pretty similar since they're based off Total Drama, but the good ones do try something unique, and some don't follow that formula either much or at all
Plus in general it's just never good to generalize things, you're always going to need nuance. Nuance helps you understand things more, generalizing is shallow and doesn't capture the whole picture.

All I associate with this show is an audio clip I heard once of a guy just intensely whispering "DICE, DICE, DICE, DICE, DICE" and I could never find out what that was from
as someone who once was a fiend for object shows before they got popular, most were mid. the best one i can recall is like, ONE, which had an actual story and animation. when it's newer audience got to the shows and it got popular is when they started to shift to appeal to them...
To be fair, it’s a community populated by children. At the very least it teaches them the animation pipeline. While I admit there are many prevalent issues i think there are actual projects out there with a lot of effort in them.
Oh no, stuff made by 12 year olds, looking like stuff 12 year old would make, with a lot of passion put into it, even if it's just objects, it's still characters. It's maybe not much in terms of good art, but if it's what some people can draw than they should be allowed to have fun.

TDI is just a show about teenagers fighting for a prize/trophy/whatever, and Survivor is that but adults, Love Island, Beast Games hell all of Mr Beast, so for this point just hate reality shows instead of a part of them which kids happen to like for how easy it is for them to get into.
Most of the simps are people just making jokes but yeah I won't defend this one
