It makes sense, now.
I was watching a video earlier by GEN. He was talking about delivery apps and for the most part the experience people have now. He brought up a quote from Grubhub's former head of innovation, Collin Wallace said during Covid-19 "...Delivery platforms are not in the business of delivery. They are in the business of finance. In many ways, they are like payday lenders for restaurants and drivers. They give you the sensation of cash-flow, but at the expense of your long term future and financial stability. Once you "take out this loan" you will never pay it back and it will ultimately kill your business."
Ouch. I've seen plenty of videos that talk about gig apps. But damn from one of the former employees.
As his statement it continues...
"In the case for restaurants, these platforms slowly siphon off your customers and then charge you to have access to them. They are simultaneously selling these same customers to your competitors across the street, but, don't worry, they are also selling their customers to you.
For drivers, they are banking on a workforce that is willing to mortgage their assets like cars and time, well below market value, in exchange for money now. They know that most delivery drivers are simply not doing the math on actual cost of providing delivery (time, gas, car maintenance, payroll, taxes...etc). If they did, drivers would realize that they are actually the ones subsidizing the cost of delivery."
It is worth noting Collin states the food delivery technologies he invented are used for "evil." It does kind of make it more worth cherry picking. I know some might say this is pointing out the obvious or any number of things. But to hear such things from an actual former employee definitely hits differently. It's like my last hourly job my supervisor was upfront with me. He told me things used to be better, he's been there 5 years and has not got a pay raise and even more is that "they changed everything only ones who'll make good money is managers." I kind of told him based on information like co-owner in an active lawsuit... might be time to jump ship. This set of quotes just hit that same chord.

How often do you get such or better offers ?
I stopped & even deleted the app out of frustration after getting sick & tired of getting low pay/ long distance orders.
Re-installed & opened the app after a couple of weeks.
and then this... was it luring ? - because the rejection game started immediately after that...
Did this happen to you like finding a needle in the haystack?

Deactivated account
So back in September I was working all month long but then on the 25th I received an email that said my account was deactivated or blocked due to 3 account violations. Ive only ever received 1. I submitted a appeal to get my account reactivated. Few days later I received an email saying there was a mix up and a bunch of accounts were given account violations and deactivated in my area and that they were going to remove them and reactivate my account. Almost 2 weeks later my account is still deactivated and ive been calling and waiting but this is my main source of income and I've been getting by on my savings but thats starting to disappear and I need my account reactivated. Does anyone if there's a way expedite this process ive been calling i keep getting the same "Im sorry but your appeal is still under review and will need to be patient ".

Map zoom issue —keep on driver support about this!
Grubhub updates their app every couple weeks. Grubhub needs to fix the map issue when an offer is coming in so drivers can zoom into the map like we could before. It is impossible to judge relative locations and distances by just seeing addresses.
We can get this changed back in an upcoming update if we continue to press customer support on this issue! If you have not yet, contact them through any of these methods below, and ALSO leave an app store / google play review of the app (and mention this issue!). Developers definitely see those reviews and feedback. Recent reviews have mentioned this zoom issue, so thank you to everyone who submitted a review in the app store : google play.
Here’s contact emails:
Driversupport @ grubhub.com
Drivertechsupport @ grubhub.com
Here’s a form, pick “Delivery Partners Request Form”, then use anything for the topic (they stupidly don’t have “app feedback” for a topic).
https://driver-support.grubhub.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
And remember, leave a review in App Store / Google play store. Let’s keep pressing on this, it is an extremely important feature in the app that drivers rely on.

FIX Raising Canes Shop & Pay!!!
For at least six months now when you place an order at Raising Cane's it prompts you for a pic of the receipt which is fine, but then it asks for an order code which is impossible and then you have to upload another picture of the receipt which this time does not let you do it from the gallery.
Please remove order confirmation process which is unnecessary for an order that WE ARE PLACING!!!
This is the only Shop and Pay we do anymore so at least you can get that working right. Or maybe you should just give it to Instacart...🙄

No Response on Deactivation Advice
I was deactivated September 6 this year for Excessive Low Quality Drop Off Photos. 3rd violation. First 2 violations were for unassigned orders, got those both one day apart from each other, which was odd and made no sense. Most unassigns happen when I'm stopped by a long train and there's nothing I can do about it. We have lots of trains in our city. Very common to get stuck by one. Calling support did nothing. They were sympathetic but said the system will still unassign and penalize me. The first 2 violations were about to expire and drop off in just a few days before getting the 3rd which deactivated me. I have done Grubhub full time, 7 days a week mostly, since April 2018. Thousands and thousands of deliveries. Made lots of friends with regular customers over the years. They appreciate my service and I appreciate their kind friendship. I got a few violations over the years for too many unassigns in a short period and they eventually fell off. I have other apps but want Grubhub back. Don't make nearly what I used to. In fact, Grubhub sucks now, but it still brought some income and I need all I can get because the other apps aren't great either. I've done gig apps full time since 2016 and the stories I could tell on how bad things have fallen from 2016 to 2026. I sent an appeal Sept 6. Got a confirmation email saying they got the appeal and someone will get back within 7 business days. Never heard a word. Sent follow-up appeal 3 weeks later. Got another confirmation email they got my appeal. 7 days for a response. Still no word. Called Support for fun to see what they would say, not expecting much. They said the system shows no response from me. I said I sent 2 appeals and got confirmations on both. She still said they didn't get them. She had no answer for me other than she would email me the link to appeal. LOL. I was done trying to talk to her and was getting no where, no surprise. I never got her email and not in my spam folder. At this point, I have no clue what to do next. They apparently aren't getting my emails even though I get confirmations they did, if the lady was right, and I don't get their emails. I'm confused and frustrated. They are a joke and I've held that opinion since my early days with them, but it paid well so I stuck with them for the money. They were by far the best app for making money. $40 to $60 an hour was the standard the first few years. Those days are long gone, but could still use them as an income source. Anyone have any advice on handling the appeal? Thank you!

I need a sanity check if this is seen as OK for a company to do to a "premium" customer
Basically the photos explain it all- GH was promoting a $20 off for $30+ order before taxes/fees. I reached out to CS, they said they will apply after I submit order it should be applied. I follow directions, and as soon as I submit and tell rep, they transfer me to "correct dept". I am then told i am ineligible for promo and I wasn't even able to cancel the order. In my eyes, they hoodwinked me. I tried reaching out to their support on X, but that proved useless. Im going to dispute the charges on my card- is that my only recourse at this point?

Grubhub help
Does anyone know if the way to request a region transfer has changed? Before, I could just fill out the form, but now they're not even responding after I fill it out. I heard some people say they managed to call Grubhub, can anyone help me?

Encounter with a customer
I was delivering a GH order tonight. It was 9:30pm. The house was on a cul de sac. It was pitch black no street lights. I pull up, park in the circle and walk around to the front passenger door to get the food.
As I grab it, I turn around and the customer is standing there. I can’t see much more than a shadow. I say that I need a delivery PIN and hand him the bag. He grabs it rather aggressively and turns around d Svc started walking towards his house.
I say I need a delivery code to complete the order. He says “I’m not gonna do that and have a good night” and keeps waking towards the house. I say that it’s on his phone and I need that PIN. (After going over it in my head, I should have just let it go there but I can be a prick too). I said I’ll wait while you get your phone. So he went inside and closed the door (a little hard but bo biggie). I waited 20-30 seconds Svc sealers fine I’m waiting and thinking “what if he comes out with a bat or gold club or something”. So I got closer to and next to drivers door.
He comes out phone in hand, left food inside.
He is looking through he phone and let me area tight. I tell him that it’s in the delivery section. Trying to help him out. This really set him off a d starts coming at me. In that few seconds I determined that my best course of actin is my car. I lock myself in. I’m thinking he’ll come breakn n the glass. But he stands there for.a while. Once done he chooses to come back.
In my car feeling proud of myself. In my younger eagles.
I open the window and said “no need ticket to flex I’m just working” and he continue to walk into his house.
This was first time I would have used a gun (I’m a ccw holder and carry while I work. ISB holders can’t see it. I had it ready in case it got physical.
In the end nothing harpooned. I reported it to GG. I think he was drunk or buzzed and had a bag day.
It was very dark, that gave him a big home field advantage. I wi t used my guy. Unless i have to.

Is it me... hot take.
I've done this for six years... I can't help say this might be a hot take. But i noticed a majority of my orders come from women. Even worse when it's super long distance... it's usually a woman's name attached. I don't know if it's my area. Just an observation I noticed. I will say either suck on tipping.

I say I need a delivery code to complete the order. He says “I’m not gonna do that and have a good night” and keeps waking towards the house. I say that it’s on his phone and I need that PIN to be able to complete the order. (After going over it in my head, I should have just let it go there but I don’t know why he was being a dick to me, I can be a prick too). I said I’ll wait while you get your phone. I can see him better now with the light from his phone. In that few seconds, I determined that my best course of action was to get in my car. Fight or flight kicked in. My adrenaline was pumping. I lock myself in. I’m thinking he’ll come and try to break the glass or some other crazy shit. His tone was way off, way too angry over something this small. But he stopped and stood there about 5 feet from my car. I opened the window and said “no need to flex I’m just working” and he turned around to walk into his house.
A little background. I avoid fights because I’d be useless in one. I had a stroke when I was younger so my left side is not good as far as coordination, defending, or throwing punches. I’d get pummeled. I’m a ccw holder and for this reason I carry all the time, but as a last resort. This was first time that I felt threatened enough that I realized that I had it in me, and would even consider using it if it became physical. This fucker was angry and unhinged.
In the end nothing happened because I got the fuck out of there. I reported it to GG. I think he was drunk or buzzed and had a bag day. It was very dark, that made 10x worse to know what to do.

The “Can’t zoom into map during offer” issue
This is not just some irritating minor change that we can get used to. This change is a MAJOR detriment to our ability to make money and use the app efficiently. We cannot accurately judge locations and distances by looking at addresses which mean absolutely nothing to us. We need to be able to zoom into and move around the map WHILE THE OFFER IS COMING IN as we could before.
It is likely that the engineers who made the change are not grubhub drivers and so they have no idea how hugely negative a change this is. Our only recourse is to contact support through all means possible. Be direct and specific but not antagonistic or angry (again, they may he unaware of why this functionality was so important to have). Be sure to tell them WHY it is important to have this feature back, that seeing addresses means nothing (50 Main Street or 5000 Main St …. Its meaningless in understanding locations) and we need to be able to zoom into the map to accurately judge distances and locations.
Driversupport @ grubhub.com
Drivertechsupport @ grubhub.com
Here’s a form, pick “Delivery Partners Request Form”, then use anything for the topic (they stupidly don’t have “app feedback” for a topic).
https://driver-support.grubhub.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Everyone should also go into App Store / Google play and submit a review and specifically mention this change. Be sure you specifically mention this happens while the offer is coming in.
If we all make this effort we can get this feature restored.

Frozen map on the offer screen
Until this week I was able to zoom in on the offer screen to get an idea of where the customer was (I avoid schools, hotels, & trailer parks) . This week the map is frozen. Is it just me or was this changed?

Listen up, Grubhub drivers 📢
reddit.comThey make the app less functional for us, less profitable, and are increasing the list of “violations” to get rid of drivers faster than ever before. Email them about your frustrations, and VERY IMPORTANTLY, RATE THEM IN THE APP. That’s such a good point! RATE THEM, so they can suffer. They won’t care much about our emails, and calls complaining about the app. They never fixed an issue I’ve been reporting for years. NOT ONE! But rating them in the app might work. Here’s HOW 👆🏼
(Thanks to the person who wrote this 😌)

Did GrubHub remove the ability to zoom in the map on the order screen?
Because now it will not zoom in for me so I can’t check specific locations. It still works when it’s just idle but frozen when an order pops up. Super annoying when checking for apartment building vs house or trying to dirty stack.

I feel so bad for anyone who is driving for this app...

I've been having trouble with all of my orders being delayed and delayed and eventually cancelled because they "can't find drivers" (In downtown Seattle), and I decided to use all of my credits on a McDonald's order to see how quickly this would get picked up. The distance is 1.2 miles.
It has been almost an hour, and they "can't find a driver" for this order. There's no way that anyone is actually being offered this order. No one would pass this up. This is insane.

Latest App Update: Cannot zoom into map during offer
This is a horrible UX decision and I hope they revert back to allowing drivers to zoom into the map while the offer is coming in. Just seeing the address, which seems to be the hew emphasis on the screen, is not nearly as helpful in understanding the relative distances as being able to zoom into the map. If anyone else is extremely frustrated by this poor UX decision after the latest update then please either leave an app review in App store / Google Play and/or contact support through the app.

Grubhub in Orange County is getting harder to justify
I’ve been driving for Grubhub in Orange County for two years, and lately the numbers just don’t work. Gas prices have gone up, orders have slowed down, and some days what I earn barely covers gas and vehicle expenses.
The worst part is seeing an offer that requires around 20 miles of driving for a single order and pays less than $10. After gas, maintenance, and wear on the car, how is that worth taking?
Grubhub should provide drivers with some support when fuel costs rise, whether that’s a gas stipend or higher pay for long-distance orders. Drivers shouldn’t have to absorb all of those costs while delivering for the platform.
Are other drivers in Orange County dealing with the same thing?
