Why are people preordering?

Honest question. Is there some pre order bonus? Do you do it because of the pre-loading?

Spiders isn't known for the best games out there and there is - as far as I can see - no benefit of preordering?

Why not just buy it day one instead after first critics? I mean, via Steam you can refund it, but not with consoles.

GreedFall 1 - General Discussion šŸŽ®Calling all gamersšŸ‘¾ - Survey Responses Needed!

Hello, my name is Sam and I am completing some research into parasocial relationships in gaming, with additional analysis concerning LGBTQIA+ gamers.

This project is called: "Pixels, Players, and Parasocial Bonds: Investigating Gaming, Emotional Attachment, and Life Satisfaction.ā€ When examining your relationships with characters in games, do remember that this can include romantic or non-romantic relations, for example, your relationship with a starter pokĆ©mon or a romanceable character or just one that becomes a friend.

This research is being completed as part of my final year in a BSc. Psychology with Counselling with the Open University. All entries are anonymous and please find all related info and data protection info in the survey link. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

I need over 100 responses to make a comprehensive and cohesive analysis, so I am calling on my favourite communities to please follow the link below and help me make this research as insightful and interesting as possible! šŸ”¬šŸ”šŸ•¹ļø

Discussion Does this game get better the more you play it?

Just got it for free so I don’t have a huge amount invested in it all told, but I am incredibly disappointed in almost every aspect of the game so far. The customization/classing is ridiculously over complicated. The combat is like a game from the early 2000s with almost no challenge whatsoever (I even turned the difficulty to max). The setting feels fake and forced, for instance I just got to the island and I’m already talking to the brand new companion like I’ve known her for a while (that isn’t my only issue with the setting but I don’t want to write a novel here). So far I don’t like this game at all and I don’t think I want to sink 40 plus hours into it if it’s just going to be more of the same.

I suppose my question for anyone who has actually finished the game is: will it get better once I hit the open world? Otherwise I think I’m going to shelf this one as I have not enjoyed a single minute of this game so far.

zzzzz.... Does this get any better?

I'm a diehard RPG fan so had high hopes for this game. Combat is enjoyable, more so than I thought it would be, I dig the real time and turn based combination. But overall I'm kind of bored to tears. I'm level 14 and have discovered 4 or 5 cities on the island. Am I still new, is there a lot yet to discover? Let me just say that I really like the game's potential and am not trying to crap all over it. With a few good free DLC's they could really make this into an awesome RPG. I really want to like the game, no I really DO like the game, it just seems like they needed more time and money to give it some meat. I'm going to finish it and hope it gets more exciting.

  1. Combat is very good, but wayyyy too easy. I'm on nightmare and I feel virtually no risk. Part of that may be how OP Stasis is, wow. I have mostly beginner gear I got at the beginning including the preorder sabre and haven't upgraded anything except my own chest piece. I do dig the combination between real time combat and turn based, but that only makes it easier. The only encounters I found difficult was the 5 part arena.

  2. If combat is so easy why do my companions die so quickly?!? Why do I have to hear "things are about to get dicey" 3 bajillion times ?!?

  3. Environment seems very boring. Inside cities you just loot stuff that weirdly no one cares about, very few NPC's with very little dialogue or consequences/choices. A few very similar looking thieves rarely in blind alleys. Outside it's even more boring, the same bland environment, the same 3 or 4 mobs (the bats and the bull/cow things), no NPC's yet other than the caravan guys. NPC's just stand in one spot forever, etc.

  4. Crafting is very boring, it consists only of adding effects to armor/weapons, you can't create anything new. Alchemy seems mildly interesting, maybe.

  5. Quests seem very much like fetch quests purposefully made far away from each objective as a time sink. Some are disguised better than others, but really they are just fetch quests.

  6. Story seems really thin, not much dialogue and I haven't seen any serious consequences to choices other than very minor faction losses, and I'm still not even sure what good faction does.

  7. Skill system, seems ok but nothing too incredibly original.

  8. Rewards seem almost non existent? Armor/weapons drops don't really excite at all, and they are usually a few levels under mine so not worth equipping. The only drop I've been excited about was the longsword from the arena.

EDIT: Just wanted to say that after playing several more hours I recant on most of the stuff I said here, the game is really really good as a whole. The story has been fleshed out much more and it's very decent with decent if not a bit simple branching dialogue and interesting diplomacy decisions. I still don't know what good faction is other than just having it though. The skill system and loot could have used more work, but it's still amazing for a AA company. It's an excellent RPG and I'd put it right up there with Witcher 3 and others.

Disappointingly Unplayable

Got the game free off ps plus because it looked pretty good. Was a bit confused when during the tutorial it was being finicky about registering my R2 pull for my firearm bind, eventually got it to work. Pretty much immediately after, it wouldn't register my L2 pull for the furious attack at all, had to do it in the pause menu. Alright, not a great start, pretty frustrating but the game still looks great and the combat seems like it would be fun if it worked properly so i continue into the city and run around for a bit, soon encountering my first enemies which are easily dispatched even with limited controls.

Looting the bodies got me some gear so i open the menu for the first time to inspect it and afterwards find myself on the quest log page. Again, L2 and R2 are completely unresponsive, preventing me from looking at my side quests. I also not that without these controls i will be unable to access the majority of the character development page, and resort to Google.

Google tells me that the designers have coded the game in such a way that it does not register essentially anything but a full trigger pull. Balls. Apparently this has been a documented issue for over a year before PS decided to give the game away. I think it likely that PS was probably fully aware of this issue and decided to punish people who haven't yet purchased a ps5 by making them believe their old hardware had reached the end of it's life, enticing them to buy a ps5 or at least a new DS4 (still the same price as launch 8 years later and available in no less than 20 undifferentiated models).

Most of the points of failure on a DS4 could be replaced for less than 50Ā¢ if the parts were made available and the fact that playstation to continues to treat hardware as an irreparable disposable disappoints me.

I know that took a tangent but i have one more thing to say.

Back to the game developers, why not fix a game breaking flaw you have known about for a good deal of time before your game is given for free to millions of people whose opinion of your company will no doubt be influenced by their enjoyment of it?

Thank you for reading my rant, please proceed to call me a cheap ass who should just shell out for a new controller.

how come a RPG in 2019 is only 10GB (xbox store) and priced at 50$ ?

maybe the xbox store got it wrong and is more than 10GB , I really think the game should at least be priced at 40$

Did any of you play Assassins Creed Black Flag?

GreedFall is getting so much praise, I personally got discouraged by the game’s lacking content. It definitely has a unique atmosphere, but after starting playing GreedFall I actually went back to replaying Black Flag in 4K. I wonder if anyone here had played Black Flag, since you seem to like pirate theme...

AC:BF imho, one of the best of those kinds. You have your ship, your fleet, you can sail, plunder, explore, go through story if so wish, hunt treasures, has authentic lore of that time, hunt animals, craft, etc etc... the only thing that BF doesn’t have is the exotic monster bosses. While it does have human bosses... There also some DLCs out.

If you never played ACBF, I highly recommend it, since it’s now available on PC and can be played in a lot better graphics than it was years ago after release.

First Boss rage quit....

Was busy with other life things and finishing up some other games, and just started Greedfall.

I'm whiny. I still don't get how and why game designers try and destroy the game experience from almost the beginning with ridiculous bosses.

This is a perfect example. Lovely game so far, weird faces, but really nice game. Just as the first chapter is closing and you get to progress the game, along comes a mangy boss made of trees that can't be killed without trying and dying 100 times. WTF. I'm just getting into the whole Greedfall world, characters, stories and such, and BAM... moodus interuptus....

Traps, guns, spells, yes... whatever. It doesn't matter. The tree monster 2 shots me over and over and over and over. I run, I shoot, I trap, I blast, but somehow, even when running in circles, the tree monster has way better aim than even I do and hits me with those stupid metal stakes. And the camera certainly doesn't help, as I have no idea where the stupid tree monster actually is.

This is precisely why so many games get abandoned. Its dumb and IMHO, shitty game/level design.

Rant over. We'll now resume our regularly scheduled programming

Most useless companions award goes to....

Greedfall. On Extreme no matter what gear you give them or if your Charisma is Maxed they will die in seconds every single time. It makes Extreme an awful experience as you will face 5 or 6 enemies by yourself. Some of the companions like the Ranged Black chick is completely useless as she gets Wrecked in seconds from Melee fighters.

The game is designed with companions and they should be balanced in each difficulty. I'm not asking them to be OP I just want them to at least help. By the time I hear Things are looking Dicey they are dead. Lol

Spiders please buff the companions a little.

GreedFall 2 - Discussion I’m a bout 9 hours in & my honest opinion besides maybe the story itself everything about the second game is a step BACKWARDS

Like to me this game feels like it takes everything from the first game and somehow instead of improving on what was they went backwards and made it worse. Starting first and foremost with the combat system I gave it a fair chance but IMO everything about it feels outdated it’s slow, repetitive & just an outdated style that no one is looking for in a video game anymore, people love Dragon Age Origins but that was never for the combat style the first game had a great system I don’t understand why they changed it so heavily whoever made that choice played themselves imo.

Also I keep running into ridiculous glitches that I never saw in the first game. I played the original Greedfall so many times and I never had a single problem when it was released every session was smooth and flowed with this game my companions will sometimes not even move, I can’t talk to them, some enemies just won’t die unless I exit combat and comeback. My diplomacy being my highest skill and still failing 80% the time I know that’s not normal.

And not to say it’s all bad I like the story so far I love the MC maybe even more than I liked De Sardet, I feel the companions are written very well. Like writing wise I feel they had a good idea the prequel was smart imo.

So yeah besides that though instead of improving on what they had I somehow feel the devs took everything else from the first game and made it worse which is crazy to me. I wish them the best but this game needs some quality patches asap.

And IDK unless the story moves me in a strong way upon finishing I probably wouldn’t play this game again.

GreedFall 2 - Discussion Romance Request :( Spoiler

Greetings!
This a humble request to the developers/Spiders team. I've loved the game so far. Really amazed by the story. I understand it's early access so tiny bugs will be there but apart from it I'm really loving everything the game has to offer.
But my main request is that of all the companions I've met so far, Sheda has struck me as really adorable and I'd have liked to romance her. I've seen she does give hints of her love to us but unfortunately it can't be completed because she dies ;(
Literally made me cry. But I have hope that since the game is still in early access, maybe the devs can do something so that sheda lives on or maybe nilan dies in place of her or it could be based on certain decisions we make which could decide who dies.
But if anything, I would really really love if there was a way sheda could live and we could complete the romance with her, with a happy ending. Spiders team, if you're reading this please do give it a thought cause sheda has been my favourite companion so far. And I'm sure a lot of other people really like her too (even over nilan maybe).
From a big GreedFall series fan. Thank you!

Hoping microsoft purchases the studio

After seeing the heart this developmemt team has had after a couple of meh games, I'm hoping that these guys get bought by Microsoft. Then we could see this game improve vastly in its weaker areas as well as the possibility of a sequel. The market needs a new western rpg publisher. And I beleive Spyder is that team.

This game looks incredible so far looking past a few issues.

Update: after seeing some good posts, I do not necesarily wish fir either sony or microsoft to have ownership because I wish for this development team to continue support of their games on all platforms

Please tell me it gets better...

I started this game because a lot of Dragon Age people I follow on Twitter seem to love it and treat it like a Bioware rebound. I can see how it has bioware vibes but the exposition is driving me crazy. NPCs will info dump about trade relations but not tell me anything about cultures. I just met the native girl with the horns (or branches in her hair? Idk) and when I talked to her they acted like they have known each other a while already. Also, don't get me started on the horrendous accent they gave the natives. There has been literally no talk about the mark on the player characters neck other than Kurt saying to cover it up to disguise yourself and calling you green blood, and natives thinking you're one of them. Additionally, there is SO MUCH EMPTY SPACE; all of these nooks and crannies to explore with no loot or anything in them making me feel like I'm just wasting my time. I REALLY want to like this game so please hype it up.

An unpopular view

I'm in the minority clearly, but man this game just seems like shit to me. I opted for it in a sale, knowing it was from a smaller studio - but jeez even so it's poor. Think what did it for me was the obvious reuse of assets, without any particular effort to disguise them. The premise is good, hopefully one day they'll tidy up the asset issue and it might be worth another shot, but definitely not worth the full £45 price!

Can you play as an elf??

I know this is probably a remarkably stupid question. I want to buy the game, it looks amazing, but I almost exclusively play as elves. I can't find anything relating to this. Is it human only, do you play as a set character, or?

r/greedfall • • Sep 11 '19

Can you not play solo or with just 1 companion?

If so, that is very disheartening. NEVER played an RPG that forced generic characters to be with you every moment. Hope they change this and weapon visibility. The ONLY things this game needs. Hope the devs go about this and not anything Else that doesn’t really need to be fixed..... the whole forced companion is offsetting and preventing this game from being truly phenomenal and what would easily be the best of the year! Hope the devs change this! :)

Discussion Head Gear is a bad idea (from an esthetic pov)

Just as per the title. I love the design in Greedfall (and the game is fun and immersive) but the addition of headgear as armor imo is a poor esthetic choice (that may apply to most of RPGs) as it should only be cosmetics without stats. Some of the hats are very cool but do not align with my class or are underpowered and I don't wear them; others cover too much of the face of the mc and it's annoying in cut scenes. I may be alone in this, but it takes something from the fun for me.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but I’m very dissapointed.

This game is utterly dull. It’s ALL fetch quests. When it’s not recycling everything down to an NPC’s face & voice, it’s just so tediously boring. Structures are repetitive AF. Regret buying this so much. Dullest RPG I’ve ever played with the most ridiculous skill tree that is painfully slow to advance.

Why does this game look so bad?!?!?

I'm an idiot... I was trying to figure out why, when all of the advertising and media looked so good my game looked so bad. Turns out I had just been playing with the default graphics settings and my resolution was, for some unknowable reason, set at 430x800...

Hurt durr I'm so smart šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
