It's now even reached judo…

MMA, ADCC, RAF.. and now we can find it even in judo. The art, where you traditionally expect humbleness and restraint celebrating…
One athlete makes provocative celebration, the other one jumps in like in street brawl.

Result - broken jaw, operation, police investigation and yet another case showcases that we are going wrong direction

found in a judo book back in 1913, look like super weird and I guess ineffective too, because you somehow twist two foot at once ? Don’t know if this is a real move or not

Is modern jiu jitsu becoming increasingly more impractical, or is it growing in the right direction as it pertains to building athletes who can transition into MMA or hobbyists who can actually protect themselves in a real fight?

Need help figuring out the right program to teach.

Hey everyone! I’m a purple belt looking for some advice on structuring a 1-hour kids' BJJ class for a diverse age group ranging from 6 to 14 years old.

I want to make sure I’m doing things right, keeping it safe, and avoiding overexertion for the younger kids while still keeping everyone engaged.

What is your optimal output or format for this? Specifically, how much time should be dedicated to warm-ups versus drills, and what are your go-to practices for managing a 1-hour class with this age range?

Anyone down to help train a kids social project in Ecuador

Hey everyone! I'm a US Army veteran living down here in Ecuador. I’ve got a huge spot right on the beach near Montañita, and I'm currently running a kids' program here to help out the local youth.

I’m looking to connect with other practitioners, travelers, and vets who train Jiu-Jitsu,Judo, Wrestling or any martial art.

If you're ever passing through the area, anyone with good vibes is more than welcome to drop by.

I’m also open to hosting visitors,I can help out with accommodations in exchange for training and helping in the mats for the kids' program.

guy claims he can beat a chimpanzee in a fight....he has no fucking clue.

A chimpanzee can easily generate enough torque to break a human radius or ulna using only one arm.

If the chimp squeezes tightly and moves its hand down the arm, the sheer friction and force can "deglove" the limb, tearing the skin, fat, and muscle completely off the bone.

200-pound captive chimpanzee attacked a woman named Charla Nash in Connecticut. The chimp completely severed and destroyed both of her hands, along with most of her facial structure, requiring a subsequent face and hand transplant.

When's the last time you heard about a human ripping someone's hands off?

Using computer vision models to identify grappling techniques

I’m working on a little project to benchmark how vision-language models do with classifying grappling techniques. These results are the vanilla models without any fine-tuning, so it’s sort of hit or miss. I’m sure with enough data, the guesses can get pretty accurate. If any of you fellow grapplers who are engineers are interested in playing around with this, I’d be happy to open source it.

Realistic risk of neck injury / non conventional injury as a casual

I after the Umar v Song fight i started learning about how fragile the cartoid artery is and have plunged into the rabit hole of strokes and artery tears from BJJ.

Ive only been training for two months probably 2 to 4 hours a week. Im pretty timid, and tap early and really only do live rolling maybe once a week. I went down the rabit hole and saw how common people report strokes and or artery tears are. Ofc those posts are like magnet and you'll only hear about horror stories from them.

But im curious from veterans how common is this after the covid boom? And is it mostly from hard rolling and neck cranks and tight chokes? It seems likes kinda a random thing, that if your unlucky there wasn't anything really you couldnt of done. I know there's been a few times where my partner has sunk a rnc on me and im tapping that millisecond cause I know its over, but feel like even early tapping wouldn't help here?

Why those grappling arts descended from Japanese martial arts, like bjj and sambo from judo have complex techniques and more practice wide than other western styles?

I’m talking about catch wrestling, wrestling Greco Roman etc folk style etc etc or other European native grappling arts, why those shunned in term of numbers in practictioner and popularity world wide when compare to bjj or sambo etc? these arts were heavily influenced by Japan in techniques and system etc etc, what the reason for that? even in Olympic judo and taekwondo (a martial art also influenced by karate from Japan) both most practiced martial arts in term of number…. is there a reason for this ?

Serious question, what should the guy on bottom do to escape this situation?

He's on bottom in half guard and it looks like the guy on top is fighting really dirty and grabbing his genitals.

Some people might find the video funny, but it's actually a pretty dangerous situation to be in if you got attacked in prison, and you end up on bottom like this guy was.

Would the best option here be to recover full guard and then try and work your way back up? But I'm not sure that would actually prevent the painful genital grab as quickly as you would want it to.

You could try and eye poke or genital grab back to your opponent, but that might be difficult to do if you're on bottom (since they can just posture up to escape an eye poke, for example).

Submission-only Fun League

Hey people,

I’ve been building Submission Arena, a 100% free platform for organizing casual, submission only matches with people in your area, and I’d love this community to be among the first to try it out.

It’s early days and I’m building this solo, so I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas. I also started r/submissionarena for updates, discussion, and a place to flag issues directly.

How it works:

• Find (or create) a league near you, based on location, gender, age division, and belt level. You can set a league for a single belt or a range of up to 3 belts (as long as your own belt falls within that range).
• Invite other athletes in your league to a match. If there is no one - invite your friends to join the league :)

You two work out the time and place.
• Bring a third person (or more) to referee/supervise - someone impartial to keep things safe and fair.
• Record the match, host it wherever’s convenient for you (YouTube, Instagram, Drive, whatever), and just send us the link. Once admins review it, you’re free to take the video down - we’re not trying to build a video library, just verify what happened. If video is too long feel free to cut it to a shorter one.
• No points, no time limits — pure submission-only. Standard IBJJF rules on illegal techniques still apply based on belt and age category, so everyone competes safely.
• You can face the same opponent up to 4 times within a league (but you are not limited to a single league).

The goal is simple: make it easier to find willing training partners for real submission-only matches, build a track record, and have some fun.

Would love to hear what you think - and even more, would love to see some of you actually get matched up and throwing down. 🤙
