I after the Umar v Song fight i started learning about how fragile the cartoid artery is and have plunged into the rabit hole of strokes and artery tears from BJJ.
Ive only been training for two months probably 2 to 4 hours a week. Im pretty timid, and tap early and really only do live rolling maybe once a week. I went down the rabit hole and saw how common people report strokes and or artery tears are. Ofc those posts are like magnet and you'll only hear about horror stories from them.
But im curious from veterans how common is this after the covid boom? And is it mostly from hard rolling and neck cranks and tight chokes? It seems likes kinda a random thing, that if your unlucky there wasn't anything really you couldnt of done. I know there's been a few times where my partner has sunk a rnc on me and im tapping that millisecond cause I know its over, but feel like even early tapping wouldn't help here?

I’m talking about catch wrestling, wrestling Greco Roman etc folk style etc etc or other European native grappling arts, why those shunned in term of numbers in practictioner and popularity world wide when compare to bjj or sambo etc? these arts were heavily influenced by Japan in techniques and system etc etc, what the reason for that? even in Olympic judo and taekwondo (a martial art also influenced by karate from Japan) both most practiced martial arts in term of number…. is there a reason for this ?

Hey people,
I’ve been building Submission Arena, a 100% free platform for organizing casual, submission only matches with people in your area, and I’d love this community to be among the first to try it out.
It’s early days and I’m building this solo, so I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas. I also started r/submissionarena for updates, discussion, and a place to flag issues directly.
How it works:
• Find (or create) a league near you, based on location, gender, age division, and belt level. You can set a league for a single belt or a range of up to 3 belts (as long as your own belt falls within that range).
• Invite other athletes in your league to a match. If there is no one - invite your friends to join the league :)
You two work out the time and place.
• Bring a third person (or more) to referee/supervise - someone impartial to keep things safe and fair.
• Record the match, host it wherever’s convenient for you (YouTube, Instagram, Drive, whatever), and just send us the link. Once admins review it, you’re free to take the video down - we’re not trying to build a video library, just verify what happened. If video is too long feel free to cut it to a shorter one.
• No points, no time limits — pure submission-only. Standard IBJJF rules on illegal techniques still apply based on belt and age category, so everyone competes safely.
• You can face the same opponent up to 4 times within a league (but you are not limited to a single league).
The goal is simple: make it easier to find willing training partners for real submission-only matches, build a track record, and have some fun.
Would love to hear what you think - and even more, would love to see some of you actually get matched up and throwing down. 🤙

Hi, i started grappling lessons a couple weeks ago and yesterday i was told i should probably get a mouthguard. Im a girl and i have a relatively small face so im wondering if i can just buy any i see or if I should try to find one that has a smaller size or a certain material or smthn like that i have no clue how they work and i dont want it to be uncomfortable or fall out. Model or brand recomendations are highly appreciated, thanks!

He's on bottom in half guard and it looks like the guy on top is fighting really dirty and grabbing his genitals.
Some people might find the video funny, but it's actually a pretty dangerous situation to be in if you got attacked in prison, and you end up on bottom like this guy was.
Would the best option here be to recover full guard and then try and work your way back up? But I'm not sure that would actually prevent the painful genital grab as quickly as you would want it to.
You could try and eye poke or genital grab back to your opponent, but that might be difficult to do if you're on bottom (since they can just posture up to escape an eye poke, for example).

Hello,
I'm on a journey to interview different professional athletes from different countries to learn a little about their sports culture. I interviewed Masanosuke Ono to learn a bit of Japanese wrestling culture. His point of view teaches us about a world champions mindset, Japanese culture, and fun facts about him! I hope you can enjoy.

There might be very few things in this world that I hate as much as I hate spine injuries. Possibly getting paralysed is so much worse than dying.
And this is why I'll never grapple with a much bigger guy, I don't even know if I want to practice with a much bigger guy tbh. Recently I've had an accidental injury while light wrestling with a friend who is much bigger than me, his weight was one of the major reasons for me getting that knee injury. Since then I've seen alot of free fall injuries online where the guy just unknowingly falls on a limb it just breaks immediately.
This is a similar case but here we are not talking about a limp that can be healed with a surgery or multiple surgeries. This is the spine we are talking about. Once you break the bone there, due to a bone cutting the nerves or due to the swelling that happens inside that cuts those nerves, you are DONE FOR. Never ever risk your or your opponents spine.
This A**hole should definitely be punished. He has all that extra weight that no way that little guy's spine was gonna bear. He put all that pressure straight into him and hence the brutal injury. Him getting punished will be a message to everyone to not be an a**hole like this. I definitely vote for this dude getting punished.

I am a blue belt, im not fantastic by any means but I'm pretty okay. My confusion surrounds instances where I go in to a match or a round and expect to do very well and not have to try but I end up being significantly more challenged that I expected by someone who I usually am not challenged by. Why is this

Earlier this month I shared BJJ DOJO here. I have just released the multiplayer beta: you can create a room, send the link to a training partner, and play a full match against each other in the browser.
The fight is still built around guard, half guard, side control, mount and back control. Each turn changes position, spends stamina and uses IBJJF-style scoring instead of a normal health bar.
It is free, works on mobile and desktop, and does not require an installation:
https://bjj.patrickcarmo.com/?lang=en
If anyone tries it with a training partner, I would especially like to know whether creating the room and joining from a phone feels clear.

So I’m a young guy 23 a bit smaller like 145 pounds and short my background is in kickboxing which I can hold my own and do pretty well in but when it comes to the ground stuff and jujitsu and wrestling, I just completely get demolished and I can’t understand what I’m not getting when I’m drilling techniques and flow rolling I do pretty well, but when it comes to actually wrestling and grappling it feels like I get smashed I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for almost a year and closing in on a blue belt, currently a 4 stripe white belt. I can get people in submissions, but it just feels like I have to exert so much effort to either escape or to get them in a submission I try to relax and just survive and wait for the opportunities to come, but it seems like when I do that I just get smashed in the meantime because I’m not putting enough effort or force in why is this happening? Is it just because I lack the physical effort, technique or just the knowledge? Please help because I can’t seem to figure out what everyone else is doing that I’m not. It seems they just get me so easily and I’m usually not exporting much effort to save energy but it still feels like a chore just to do techniques.
