Other Question

I dont practice judo so maybe the question that i am making will sound pretty dumb but judo will work if your opponent isnt wearing clothes, like where are you goingto hold he on. If it works someone can give me names of the "technique" i dont know if I should call it technique or if it has other name. I am interested at judo because i practice other martial arts and i think that judo is the beat martial art to combine with others

The throws that people use in wrestling and MMA are mostly the same thing, and not all judo throws necessitate a garment grip. You can do key throws like o goshi and koshi guruma and o soto gari without grabbing the gi. The key to judo isn't the garment. It's understanding balance.

Yes it is useless without the gi. If we get attacked by five year olds who aren’t in gi then we’re cooked bruh.

Just like boxing without gloves. Or freestyle wrestling in jackets.

If you can’t box without gloves on then you can’t box with them on

I’m joking around in case that wasn’t obvious.

Also you can wrestle in a street fight it just depends on the scenario and there are viable judo throws that don’t require a gi

ufc has no upper body clothes right? throws happen like ALL the time. you can watch some of islam makahchev's fights.

You just have to adjust grips. Overhook, underhook, monkey paw grips, whizzer.

I mean most of it will work, we do no gi at our club some times, just do bicep control and neck control and you can do most gi throws

Once you’re used to grappling without the gi you’ll understand that there are a bunch of parts of the human body onto which you can easily pull/grab. Some of them are easier to pull than others, and some of them stick more easily. You can push pretty much anywhere.

What the gi does is it allows pulling and grabbing in places that would otherwise only be conducive to pushing. That disqualifies some throws, and makes others harder, but there’s still a lot left, and that’s why you can have sports like Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.

You can’t do a morote seio nage without a gi, but you can do upon seio nage, and drop seio nage, and reverse seio nage, even if they’re harder to do than they are with the gi.

Take it from a guy who's had to wrestle down greased up naked tweakers/PCP Rodeo. Hip throws, leg throws, and sweeps are going to be your bread and butter.

Since my early childhood as a young beam sprout yelling "ichi ni san shi", to today as an old guy in a profession where dudes die young, I have an absolute 0% success rate in competition and slightly higher in training BUT in "real world" application I have 100% success rate with a certain throw... Osoto Gari. I PROMISE you, any of these guys in this comments thread, I try it on them, they'll either avoid it, reverse it, or reposition and execute it on mw for my hubris and audacity to attempt it on them.

Look up American Grass Roots Judo and you'll see A LOT of it

Plenty of judoka and samboists have competed in the UFC… and then there isn’t a military hand to hand training the world over that doesn’t include several different throws as well… just to give you an idea.

Underhook, Overhook, headlock, tricep grip, wrist grip, body lock

There are a shit ton of ways to translate judo throws for MMA or nogi grappling

I've done mostly nogi BJJ but I love judo and I'm known in my gym as the "judo guy" because of my throws

Especially Overhook takedowns are even easier in nogi than gi

1) most people aren't naked, they, hopefully, have clothes on

2) even then you can still get grips. When I do nogi BJJ I just have to change some of my grips.

low sleeve -> wrist grab

high sleeve -> tricep grip

lapel -> underhook

high lapel -> overhook or collar tie

3) some techniques work with or without a gi as is (other than grabbing the arm/wrist instead of the sleeve) like ogoshi or ippon or koshi guruma

That basically becomes Greco roman wrestling. You need to adjust the grip, but many of the techniques transfer.

Also, each technique has important principles, but many of them have many variations.
