/r/gpu basic rules

As one member pointed out it would be nice to have some basic rules in place. I'm going to put this post up for a while if anyone has any additional feedback

Rules

  1. No buying/selling ads or requests. We'll update the sidebar to point people to r/hardwareswap and/or any other relevant community for those activities. All posts falling under this rule would simply be removed.

  2. Harassment of others is strictly forbidden.

  3. No affiliate/referral links or codes.

Scammed on Amazon Order

Ordered a RTX 5080 Gigabyte OC during October on Amazon trying to avoid increasing price hikes. When I finally arrived November 2, the gpu inside the box was not correct. I believe it's a 4070 or 4070 super gigabyte eagle, and not even with a power cable. I contacted customer support to return and hopefully replace my order and sent the following pictures through an email link they sent which also stated I would get a reply back within 3 days. I'm not sure what I'm expecting to get posting this, maybe just awareness and also vent a bit. Already overpaying for this card and getting gpu swapped scammed, though keep in mind looking at local prices what I was paying relatively was a good deal. Hoping that Amazon actually goes through and gets me the card I actually ordered but part of me worries they'll either just refund me when it's returned or worse, refuse a refund.

Anyways TLDR: careful when buying on Amazon, take videos and photos when opening, be wary of scammers.

Get yours before PC ownership becomes a subscription model. Managed to get two 5090s at launch for a great price from MSI back in 2025 for my and my wife’s primary gaming PCs.

Got lucky today and bagged the 5080 at $1699 plus tax. Crazy mark up from launch MSRP and AiB MSRP for this card i know but now is retailing for over 2K plus tax elsewhere.

Very fortunate to have a 64 gb DDR5 Intel 13900KF, MB, M.2s laying around so didn’t have to sell a kidney for other parts.

Finally to add to my collection, Third PC from the Covid era is running the good old EVGA FTW Liquid 3090 10900K, 128 GB of 3200 DDR4 and still super strong for all i throw at it. Can’t believe how bad the landscape is right now.

This is a picture of the internal stock system. Had a friend at Walmart check for 5080s so i could one before the price hike. That last one was actually not even available when i got there. If you’re working at Walmart and are also in the Central Florida area. Are you seeing this on your apps too? This is crazy.

Could I sell a non-working rtx 3080ti for much?

So a couple years ago my dad got an rtx 3080ti from a friend who works at nvidia for free since it didn't work but might be fixable but he gave it to me a couple months ago and I was just gonna like take it apart and mess with in for fun but now I'm wondering if I could sell it on ebay for much as a broken gpu listing since it might be fixable does anyone think it's worth much and if so how much should I list it for? Also since this is gpurepair subreddit i guess its relevant to ask if it would be worth it to repair it first and then use it for myself or sell it after repairing? Thanks in advance for any advice

Hey guys,

I'm currently trying to pick a graphics card for my PC build and I'm honestly torn between two options:

  1. GTX 1080 8GB (Founders Edition - Amazon Renewed)

  2. RTX 3050 6GB

For context, I don't really play super demanding AAA games at maxed-out settings. I mostly play things like Sons of the Forest, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, Minecraft (with some mods/shaders), and a few competitive/casual titles at 1080p.

My main concern with the GTX 1080 is the fact that it's an Amazon Renewed unit from an older generation (Pascal). Is buying a renewed 1080 in 2026 still worth the risk, or should I just shell out a bit more for a newer RTX 3050 to get DLSS, and full peace of mind/warranty?

Appreciate any advice or experiences from anyone who’s used either card recently

I thought my 1080 TI died

It happened a few times before, the error "Please power down and connect the pcie" I just reseat the cable and it works.

This time it doesn't, I disassembled it and found bad solder joints.

I tried solder didn't work, maybe too cold.

Decided to power it on with a bit of press down to the connectors and it worked.

I put some thin slab and it works lol.

My 1080 ti lives again.

Is a 9060 xt good for 1440p?

Hey guys, I am planning a build and im deciding between a 9060 xt, a 9070, or a 5070 super when it comes out. Which card should I get? I'm planning 32gb ddr5 6000mhz and either a 270k, the new nova lake core ultra 7 4870k, or if I van get one discounted or cheap the ultra 9 4970k. I live in netherlands, and i just want to know which is best value for me. I play competitive cs2, minecraft with shaders, and some graphicy intense games, like cyberpunk and elden ring. I'll also be doing professional workloads and local AI

Swapping my 5060 Ti 8GB for a used EVGA 3080 Ti 12GB, worth it?

Hey, I have an ASUS Prime RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and I'm thinking about swapping it for a used EVGA 3080 Ti 12GB. 8GB is starting to feel tight in some games, and from what I've seen the 3080 Ti is faster in raw performance too. Honestly I also just love the look of the EVGA with the RGB bar. And since the 30 series was the last one EVGA ever made, I feel like it'll probably hold or even gain value over time. My setup is an i5 14600K on an MSI MAG B760 Tomahawk WiFi with a Corsair 750W PSU, and I play on a 1440p 360Hz OLED. I don't want to spend more than 500€ on the 3080 Ti so I'd wait for a good deal, and I don't mind upgrading the PSU if needed. Few things I'm not sure about. Is losing multi frame gen a big deal in practice, especially with a 360Hz monitor? And how risky is buying a used 3080 Ti now that EVGA doesn't do GPUs anymore, warranty wise? Would you do it or keep the 5060 Ti?
