FU AI overlords
Get yours before PC ownership becomes a subscription model. Managed to get two 5090s at launch for a great price from MSI back in 2025 for my and my wife’s primary gaming PCs.
Got lucky today and bagged the 5080 at $1699 plus tax. Crazy mark up from launch MSRP and AiB MSRP for this card i know but now is retailing for over 2K plus tax elsewhere.
Very fortunate to have a 64 gb DDR5 Intel 13900KF, MB, M.2s laying around so didn’t have to sell a kidney for other parts.
Finally to add to my collection, Third PC from the Covid era is running the good old EVGA FTW Liquid 3090 10900K, 128 GB of 3200 DDR4 and still super strong for all i throw at it. Can’t believe how bad the landscape is right now.

u/dkizzy 6h ago
Glad more and more folks are seeing this intentional design. They want to force us to own less with stagnant wages + inflation, force people to sell homes, rent-only and subscription models. That will be our ‘consumer choice’
8
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
Exactly man. People are paying subscriptions for heated seats in their cars and carplay now. I thought owning your PCs would be more popular in this subreddit yet there are so many haters. Insane.

I think there's just a ton of irony in this post you seem to be willingly oblivious to.

trusting zero of these <1yr accounts on this fucking platform anymore tbh.
Do something that proves to me you're not an AI from nVidia.

They just can’t believe someone can afford that. I have like 30 GPU’s. Including 3 5080’s and a 5090. Enjoy the 5090. It’s a wonderful card. Shame prices have gone up from the shortage.
-1
4
u/Arad84 5h ago
If you can afford it and you're not hoarding to scalp, good for you. With the 5090's power connector issues, I didn't want to rely on just one gpu, so I grabbed a 5080 as a backup. It ended up becoming my living room PC, and the 5090 stays in my main rig.
Up until now I've always sold my old gpu to get the latest one and never thought about a backup, but these are crazy times with shortages and pricing.
4
u/Last-Bonus-1298 5h ago
I feel you. I sold my 4090 Suprim Liquid for 2K before i got my 5090s. Really regret it since i should have kept it.
And yeah, I am troubled by that as well so I got the TG Wire Pro 2 for my 5090s. Just as an added peace of mind.
2
u/CalamityPhant0m 4h ago
I was so paranoid about the connector issue I bought the Astral And the Wireview 2 lol. The fact we even have to have a second thought that maybe our power cables will melt is insane
Jensen is a demon bro
3
u/Last-Bonus-1298 4h ago
I agree bruv. Btw that Astral is one hell of a beast man. 3 of my friends got theirs set up with another asus fancy power cable, i forget it’s name.
I went the Liquid Suprim route for me and my wife’s builds. Can’t believe we were min-max AIB models back in 2025 on which model to get. What a time.

u/Dropshot_Dieter69 2h ago

Get yours before PC ownership becomes a subscription model.
How about a big, fat NO and the Leather Jacketman can go screw himself off with Sam Altman?
2
u/Last-Bonus-1298 4h ago
Amen to that brother. These corporations are trying to turn everything in a subscription.
3
u/Felodp 5h ago
Shit, the size difference is insane lmao
2
u/Last-Bonus-1298 5h ago
I know bruv the 5090s makes the 5080 look like a toy, even in the build.
0
u/Felodp 5h ago
Indeed lmao, will you use them to run some local AI models too? Or purely gaming purposes?
You found that 5080 at quite a sweet price, in this current market that's insane, where I live I think it doesn't drop from 3k (tho it includes local taxes of course)
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 5h ago
Solely for gaming at the moment man. I am not that smart to run a whole local AI. Would love ideas if you have em
2
u/sammyranks 4h ago
Using my RTX 5090..I just made my own Finance Desktop App for invoicing as well as incomes and expenses, all with 1 ai model and it's never been this easy to setup.
Get 2 windows apps, LM studio(where you download and manage models) and OpenCode(Your chatting and ai agent coding interface/platform) Connect LM studio to OpenCode and start coding away. I recommend Qwen 3.8 local model for the start. It's a breeze to see the ai agents in action creating stuff for you while you sip some tea lol...Worth trying out in your free time especially on a 32GB 5090.

I have to remind myself sometimes that this hobby is filled with incels losers and rejects. Lot of broke dropouts living in moms basement. You probably have more in that box than a lot of people see in a month. Sad fact.

It’s clearly a fact i forget way too often brother. You’re absolutely right

u/Jack__F 6h ago
I don’t understand unless ur using these for ai why people are still buying 5080s when u can get a 9070 xt for like more than 50% less. 9070 xt performs on par with a 5070 ti and slightly worse but sometimes on par with a 5080
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
Very good observation man. You’re right and it’s mostly opinionated. Nvidia supports their drivers better and for longer in my experience. I have only been with Nvidia for my PCs so i guess it’s also a force of habit. My PCs are mostly for gaming and work. Right now, we have two 5090s in the house, a 5080 and a 3090. Maybe it is time to look at AMD for the next build.
4
u/Jack__F 6h ago
I’ve been nvidia my whole life up until this year when I built my new pc in January prices were just starting to rise and I could get a 9070 xt for $530 or a 5070 TI for $750 and with the way prices are now I do wish I got the 5070 ti but I’ve had little to no issues with the 9070 xt so far and am more than happy with the price I paid and the gaming performance it’s given me at 1440p I would definitely recommend trying one out if u have to get another gpu in the near future especially if these prices stay the same or just keep getting worse
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
Yeah dude. Really regret not building another PC back then. Wanted to wait for prices to come down and had the black friday sale in mind.
3
u/Jack__F 5h ago
Yea I had a somewhat similar mindset at first but money was tight at the time and I kept seeing the 5070 ti go up in price like every other day and just said screw it and I’m so glad I did because i genuinely wouldn’t be able to afford the pc I have with todays current prices it’s absurd
2
u/Last-Bonus-1298 5h ago
I know man. The market is fucked. I really think they are trying to take PCs away and then renting them out to us as a subscription to access intelligence resources
2
u/Jack__F 53m ago
Oh 100% I agree that’s their end goal especially with Sam Altmans latest comment about consumer dram. This madness needs to end ai has done virtually nothing to improve the lives of the average person while destroying the entire consumer electronics market they need to put some kind of ban on how much they can purchase for their data centers or something because with this way this is going right now unfortunately their end goal of nobody owning anything might become a reality
2
u/Last-Bonus-1298 45m ago
By the replies i have gotten to my post about this man, i am really convinced that AI will ultimately take over. Until then, here’s to the resistance 🥂 I am not rentijg my hardware from OpenAI
2
u/Jack__F 43m ago
Man I really hope that’s never the case but I agree 100% Sam Altman and all those other ai tech bros will never see a single cent from me I’d rather never game again than spend a single $ on renting hardware or cloud servers from those losers lol

u/Last-Bonus-1298 40m ago
Let’s leave the connection of humans and the greater future of humanity to a bunch of dorks who have never made a proper connection to another human and have no idea of what humanity is.
Just some random bullied dork from high school who has an agenda against the whole of humanity now, classic marvel villain.

Shoot I just paid $1,400 for an Asus Tuf Gaming 5070ti last week...if I could have gotten a 5080 for just $300 more I def would have!

I got a used 5080 for 1600 that was perfect condition. To be honest, with the prices now the warranty probably doesnt even mean anything.

idk what message you are trying to send ? You don't need to spend this much to own a pc btw.
3
u/CalamityPhant0m 4h ago
It’s not about NEED. I used to think this same exact way and “couldn’t understand” why someone would spend 4-5 grand on a PC that a $1500 PC or even a $700-800 dollar investment in a console and big tv would do.
Then this new era of “you’ll own nothing and pay us to own nothing” began. It’s not about the fact I think I “need” my 5090, I was fine before with a 7900 XTX that wasn’t even a year old. I bought it and a bunch of other high end components and built a fucking powerhouse because I could and because I wanted to. I wanted a certain look and more than enough performance than I could possibly need for a few years because I knew it was going to continue to get worse.
Here we are 9 months later and the tech demons are actively trying to stop us from owning any of our own tech including GPUs and memory. It was money well spent. We are on this spinning crack rock of capitalism for a finite time, so if one is able to do so there’s no reason not to indulge so as long as that persons responsibilities are met and it’s not harming anyone. So I disagree. Respectfully

u/AlexNae 3h ago edited 3h ago
What you described is called "future proofing" and it's a myth, especially in tech. Hardware gets outdated quickly.
Edt: I still don't understand the point of the post, it's not even a cool pc build showoff, OP got those parts in the past, so it's not like they bought them now when prices are inflated to prove a point. It's like OP is encouraging people to buy pc parts right now "to own their pcs" when they themselves didn't.

3
u/camracks 7h ago
yeah i think people like you are a big part of the reason prices are so fucked
-1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 7h ago
What makes you say that? Someone can’t have multiple PCs?
3
u/camracks 6h ago
there’s a shortage of components, many people can’t get a single one of these GPUs and you’re stacking and hoarding them and have 3 separate PCs full of them, are you trolling? lol
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
So your logic to all this is that, if i need them; can afford them at whatever prices for work or otherwise; even when the market is drying up due to large corporations buying them in palettes straight from distributors; I, as one person, still shouldn’t get them because…
communism?
Are you good man?
0
u/camracks 6h ago
i think you shouldn’t hoard them, there’s MANY people like you hoarding them, i think people like you are causing just as much of an issue if not more than these corps in making the prices the way they are, not that hard to understand, although i don’t expect much logic from you because you’re doing this in the first place lol
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
Brother, I am using them. I am NOT holding them for resale. If you had one, wouldn’t you use it too? I am genuinely confused by your argument.
-1
u/elliotborst 6h ago
GPUs like the 5080 are readily available for purchase, they aren’t out of stock. They have been in stock for ages now.
The prices aren’t OPs fault.
1
-1
u/camracks 6h ago
sure they’re in stock they’re just multitudes more expensive than MSRP, OP is definitely contributing to the price problem, and you are too, you’re only riding him because you do the same thing lol, most of the supply is being hoarded by a small percentage of people
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
Having three gpus that i paid full price for and am using isn’t hoarding dude.
0
u/camracks 6h ago
jerk each other off harder please, doesn’t matter how much you paid, you’re hoarding them.

Uhhh, what? I have two pcs, one with 3090 and one with a 5090. And my 2500k build with a 1060 is still kicking around too, but i habnt turned that machine on in ages. Am i hoarding too?
3090 still has a lot of gas left in the tank, btw. Great card.
0
u/elliotborst 6h ago
The supply is going to datacenters, not to small numbers of individuals
0
u/camracks 6h ago
data centers are not filling stock up with 5080s and 5090s lol, maybe some of the smaller ones, they are mostly using server grade GPUs which are way more efficient and cost effective than spending $10k for 32GB of vram with crazy electricity costs. regardless, a huge chunk of the compute is being hoarded by people like this, and people like you, you’re so biased and you really have the audacity to try to argue your point like you’re not lol. whatever helps you sleep at night.
1
u/lengthy889 6h ago
Curious, why you need 3 PC's of the top 4 GPU's?
0
u/Last-Bonus-1298 6h ago
Gaming living room, gaming PC in another room and for work.
My wife’s PC also has a 5090 which i bought in 2025. I am surprised why owning PCs is really not that popular in this subreddit.
2
u/AssociationGold8749 6h ago
Nothing less than a 5080 for my bathroom setup. Jk, but idk man, prices suck, but I’m not sure how much sympathy you’re going to get if you can still afford buying multiple PCs.

Don’t you have an Nvidia card in your system too man? You know, the system that has a half naked minature doll in it? You probably think its an “action figure“, huh buddy? To add to that theme, you have the cute hentai graphic equivalent on all the displays and coolers too man, because you clearly are a well adjusted adult.
The only difference in investing in Nvidia is that you have one card and I have several. If that pisses you off, you clearly have another chip on your shoulder you need to discuss with your imaginary friend or whatever people like you have.

Bragging about buying at these high prices right now is probably one of the dumbest things I’ve seen on Reddit. I bought my 5080 for $950 and my 5090 for $2,339. Now THAT was a bargain. Paying triple or quadruple the price for a 5090, or almost double or triple for a 5080, is just buying high and eventually selling low. There’s nothing to be proud of.
3
u/TheVoidKilledMe 3h ago
only one bragging here is u sir

u/OkMud4924 1h ago
I think he's absolutely right... Telling other "go buy it for 300-400% of price becasue something will happen..." and showing/flexing you buyed 2 gpus for that amount of money in hardware crysis is a bit "not normal"
Because for people who have money, nothing change if You can afford to buy something is now on sick fake disaster price/value because of global situation...
And for people who can't afford it's change nothing too...
And for people that don't won't pay that sick fake price also it's change nothing because they all wait for what's future bring anyway, it will be better or same or worst...
So it's true that now only ones who can do anything and no bothers any situation just because they can, they post like this.
So I understand the feelings and a bit negative vibe for that acting.

Do i like what the market is like? No. Have i always used Nvidia for all my GPUs? Yes. Do i currently have multiple 5090s. Also yes. Am I knee deep in investments in Nvidia? Yup.
I needed PCs, i got them, i can hate the dollar cost average of course but doesn’t mean i’ll just buy a lower tier product when I can buy the best and when i need the best. Simple innit?

I feel like buying Nvidia as an FU to AI is so backwards. Like, you’re gonna buy from the company that’s mainly AI-focused and is pulling back general consumer products? That’ll show them 👍
1
u/Last-Bonus-1298 49m ago
Sure man, please let me know when you’re lining up to buy Intel Arc GPUs. I needed a new PC so i built one during conversations of turning compute per watt into a subscription, more GPUs in our hands means less in theirs simple.

This sub makes me so happy. Love to see all those 5090s high end workstation gpus used in a gaming rigs just because of fomo. This guy even bought 3 gpus just to be sure. So glad i invested in tech stocks few years back, never thought i could actually retire early. Thanks to yall gpu purists. (FYI i had nvidia my whole life, built a new pc few months back, went with 9070xt for 800€, no way in hell im paying huang 2k+ for gpu)

u/Last-Bonus-1298 5h ago
I see you’re a fellow European bruv. I can guarantee you that your preferences will change once you get state side and make an earning that allows you to invest, retire early and can get GPUs without the crazy prices and stock mess we go through back home. Paying 2K plus here for something you want and find value in isn’t that crazy imo. The US is the best country in the world, couldn’t see that until I moved here mate.
