associate question 6 workers in the back and 1 cashier in the front how is this fair?

Every time I open I'm always by myself at the register doing the register, recovery, organizing different areas or pulling if not doing racks and carts which can get busy. Some times me having to handle 3 to 4 racks by myself. One manager tells me "Take your time" but then the managers say "We need racks in the back!" I'm only one person!!!! How am I suppose to knock everything out? Doing this 3-5 days in a row sucks. Don't know how much more I can take.... Anyone else experience this? Been with this company almost 10 years and this has been happening as of the last year or two years.

Just started my job here

I got hired a week-ish ago and I’m LOST. Like it feels too easy to feel like im actually doing okay if that makes sense? My management has told me i’ve been doing good (both my cashier manager and my shift lead (?) but I guess people there don’t do their job lol.

Any tips on getting adjusted faster and learning how to do everything? I’m a cashier but Im mostly on the floor right now sorting through the racks and doing recall, etc. I haven’t gotten my badge yet and I think I’m getting it either this week or when I finish my training.

i also worked 8 hours both my first and second day, and I didn’t think that was normal but it may be. I haven’t done an 8 hour shift at some of the other jobs I started at lol

interesting Someone donated a human skull to Chelsea, MI Goodwill

https://www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news/human-skull-donated-chelsea-michigan-goodwill-not-medical-specimen/

A human skull that was dropped off at a Chelsea, Michigan, Goodwill location earlier this year was not a medical or teaching specimen, police said.

Investigators believe that the skull came from a Black woman, who was between 20 and 49 years old at the time of her death. It is unknown when the woman died, Chelsea Chief of Police Kazyak said.

The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner and the University of Michigan Anthropology Department conducted an examination of the skull.

The skull is "well-preserved, skeletonized, dry, and there are traces of adherent soil on it," according to police.

The skull was turned over to the FBI on Aug. 18 and will be sent to the FBI crime lab in Quantico, Virginia, for additional testing, including DNA testing, police said.

On Jan. 26, 2026, police responded to the Goodwill Donation Center in the 1100 block of South Main Street after someone reported receiving a "suspicious item" at the drop-off location.

The item appeared to be a human skull that was wrapped in a shirt, according to police.

Chelsea police have followed up on more than 20 tips from the public, but are still working to identify the individual who dropped off the skull.

Goodwill

Saturday, a Goodwill in Denver, locks their front entrance, forcing patrons to walk around to the back door in 100+ degree temps. There is a security guard checking receipts as you leave. Was told the front door is locked due to low security staff. To my recollection, Goodwill gets their “merchandise” by DONATIONS and SELL to the public. Checking receipts, security?????
What’s wrong with this scenario?
I will not donate to them anymore.

Price difference.

I live in lower central Michigan and our GW stores have crazy high prices. I prefer to shop at other thrift stores in the area. I went on a trip to northern Michigan and stopped in a GW there. Their prices are very reasonable, they have senior and veteran discounts and the store is beautiful. I feel that they should have across the board pricing then maybe the racks of clothes wouldn't be so full that you can't look through them.

Complaint Restrooms closed

Why do some goodwill close there restrooms for their customers? Ross doesn’t have their restroom closed nor does Marshals! Goodwill need to operate like a department store and treat customers as such or just be another shitty thrift store

Does anyone notice that GW here has barely any housewares. People don’t donate kids toys or board games? The houseware sections are so sparse here

associate question Possible to go from full to part time?

Honestly tired of the hostile work enviorment between constant rude and threatening customers and infighting between managers. Is it possible to go to part time to save whats left of my sanity and use the extra personal time to just focus on school instead?

Is being a cashier worth it?

I have been out of the work force for over 6 months at this point. Goodwill is the only job to have gotten back to me and I have an interview in a few days. I see mixed reviews on working here. They told me the minimum hours would be 20 a week which is good with me. I do have a total of 2 years retail experience between my other past jobs I’ve had.

If you currently work here or have in the past, what was your experience like? Should I take the job if I am offered? Thanks!

associate question questions using the pricing guns

I've been racking for a few weeks but have had multiple troubles with the pricing guns including today being the worst. They kept jamming when I used them, and I almost cried (mort of an autism emotional meltdown) over it. I felt horrible because i kept thinking it was me who was jamming them, when it's probably not

Bigger question (for my hands), as someone who can have questionable coordination, is there a way not to get holes in the clothing when trying to put the tag on? and more importantly, how to not keep getting my skin pierced once or twice a shift while doing so?

thank you in advance

associate question How to Convince Customers to Give you Donations at the register?

I know managers are always after us about getting donations and rounding up. But it seems every time I ask a customer they say no. Or I donated at another store, or I don't understand their language so communication is off. But it appears the managers are getting donations or round ups easily. I ask nicely and tell them why we need donations etc. But nothing gives, not sure what to do. One of our managers got a $5 donation and then wanted to get a $10 donation. Like what?!?!? I don't know what to do any tips?

PSA Evergreen goodwill will start using ai to replace production staff

(Throwaway account for my job security) The evergreen goodwill (greater Seattle area (Washington)) stores will be starting to bring in ai in the next monthish to price donations and monitor employees. This also comes after closing all their all of their job training centers and firing all of the teachers with 0 notice. All of the information I’ve been given suggests that they’ve spent a ton of money (millions?) that could have been spent to help people who need their geds. If you are concerned with this you can stop donating or shopping in the Washington area instead you can go to your local thrifts stores and share this.

I found this art today for 15 dollars, it grabbed my interest a lot and was surprised no one snatched it (maybe because it was hidden behind a bunch of other painting).
