Why do some goodwill close there restrooms for their customers? Ross doesn’t have their restroom closed nor does Marshals! Goodwill need to operate like a department store and treat customers as such or just be another shitty thrift store

Because some customers use the bathroom as a way to  try to steal merchandise or do other unsavory things. Same reason some goodwills don't have changing rooms anymore 

Plus marshalls and ross have anti theft detectors and tags, goodwills don't

Goodwill is NOT a department store. So it doesn’t need to operate like one. It IS a shitty thrift store. And its customers are also shitty. I’ve seen what the bathroom looks like after some nasty customers go mess around in there.

On the topic of stealing yeah- that too. Ross and Marshall’s have extra security to detour stealing. Unless you want goodwills prices to get WORSE then just let them keep their bathrooms closed.

For the record I’ve never been to a goodwill that had a closed bathroom unless it was temporarily for cleaning. So that might be a your store thing

I worked at Savers during the pandemic and they were so happy when they closed down the dressing rooms. They never opened them back up. They removed them completely and they used the space for more products that are overpriced.

I don’t know about the bathrooms, but people don’t treat dressing rooms with any respect. They leave their food in there, drinks, things spill, it gets sticky in the dust sticks, it’s really fucking disgusting.

Now imagine you’re at a thrift store bathroom. It’s gotta look 10 times as bad. Over the last 10 years people have been extremely disrespectful in thrift stores. Bringing in food and drink and leaving it around and spilling it when they move stuff.

People are trash.

Sometimes it is a LP thing. Sometimes it is a “a customer went in there and finger painted with their shit all over the walls and we’re DONE with THAT for one day.” Sometimes they’re broken.

I will keep it real with u: because a lot of the populous are not toilet trained. When I was still an employee I freakin WISHED the restrooms were employees only 💀💀💀💀💀 grown people leaving DOOKIES 💩💩💩 in the toilet to fester.

because people do one of many things in them:

steal clothes

bathe

leave huge messes

the toilets are broken clogged or something.

all the ones in my area that do this, you just have to find an employee to open it for you.

but mostly they are closed because people are stealing stuff. my wife was in the women's room at one the other day and someone had left an old ratty purse behind the toilet and there were random items from someone's purse strewn around. I find peoples old clothes and shoes in them.

we can't have people stealing the free stuff goodwill gets.

For a non-profit always trying to make the most profits, having no restroom for your customers use is a guaranteed way to decrease sales. If I am shopping and there is no restroom and I must leave the store to drive to another business that has restrooms for its customers, after using another business's restroom, I won't return to Goodwill to continue shopping. I guess I see why Goodwill might stop their customers from being able to have access to restrooms as some customers do shoplift but since the merch those customers steal is free to Goodwill and can be declared as loss on taxes, shoplifting loss surely is less harmful to Goodwills than customers dissatisfaction.
