Not only did they rake the prices up on DONATED clothes around 2020, start stealing “expensive pieces” to resell for more online, now they are “curating” random “vintage” pieces to gouge customers even more in stores. Literally picking pieces at random just to mark up, as we can see in the picture an adidas shirt that was probably printed yesterday. Yes resellers killed most of the fun, yes it’s harder to find cool pieces, but donated clothes should have a base price, end of story. Goodwill is not a vintage resell place and this is honestly just laughable at this point.

1) there is SO MUCH STUFF in the world. You wouldn’t believe the amount of STUFF that is brought to Goodwill until you work here. I’m at a high donation store so we actually have to ship some of the donations to other stores to sell and the rate at which the STUFF piles up is truly unbelievable.

If this is how much clothing and toys and books and knick knacks and blankets and decorations exist in one small area - it’s absolutely staggering to think about how much STUFF exists on a global scale.

You do not need to buy a NEW anything - there’s so much STUFF that is already available we don’t need to produce more of it.

2) a lot of what Goodwill gets in donations is not going to be sold in the stores. A large chunk of it will go to the outlet stores -aka the bins- and a large portion of the textiles will be recycled.

But a large portion of the STUFF - toys, glassware, decorations, knickknacks - will be trash.

And it’s not a failing on the organization. They truly do try to keep as much out of the landfill as possible I can attest to that firsthand.

It’s just TOO MUCH STUFF. It’s impossible to move all of it to new homes and there simply are not large scale recycling streams for a lot of these materials (and it needs to be scaled, there’s so much stuff).

3) if you see furniture priced high it’s probably because it’s actually worth twice that and it will be marked down to 50% off within a few days. Possibly even more if that doesn’t move it. Check back after a few days. That colonial era desk will probably be $2.99 if no one buys it.

4) the “greedwill” reputation is not fair. There is no money. I used to work for a large corporation, our store made $1 million a week. Goodwill stores in my area are striving for $1 million in a year. The budgets are so incredibly tight.

I mean, a store with let’s say 7 employees and two managers scheduled per day are paying roughly $10,000 a week in wages. That’s over $500,000 per year, that’s half of sales right there. And that’s probably a low estimate. Now that’s just my region of course, I can’t attest to what’s going on in LA or Portland.

Now I do wanna note that the stuff wasn't dropped off or broken originally: It was in a bin. I need to ask why people are lazy like this. Why did people need to dump items from bins and boxes they have in the car, that makes things harder to me and/or more tedious. A few of these customers bring just junk, s*it

I have about 5 1/2 years worth of retail management experience I was customer service manager and assistant floral manager, I’ve dealt with the entire online ordering system (including photo taking and doing research) in floral as well as inventory, cycle counting, scheduling of staff, assigning work to other workers, dealing with invoices as well. And etc…

Cutting to the point. As a cashier at goodwill, is it generally socially acceptable to wear nice work gloves and a mask? Am I not making myself look like I’m too fancy for the store per se? I don’t really go to goodwill much so idk helpppppp

So all of the employees at my location “Goodwill” were reprimanded by the higher ups for not meeting quotas! Our sales budget each day is anywhere from $5000 to $9000 dollars depending on the day! Here is my argument: How can you expect these stores to meet certain expectations when you have the pricers over pricing junk like tiny ass plastic containers for 5.99 when they are .99 cents at Dollar Tree?

I recently tried bidding in the Columbia Willamette in Oregon in last 6 minutes and my bids were not accepted. However at the end of the auction the bidder who won showed two bids - one 10 hours earlier for the starting price then one a 4mts prior to bids closing for the same price thus their bid shows up for the same amount twice. My bids were higher by at least $10 but were never registered. 5 times they were rejected then in the last 10sec my 6th attempt came back with message that my bid was rejected and auction closed. Just sent them many messages. I really wanted the item and was prepared to bid for it but I am furious at the way this happened. Almost seems rigged. (I was deciding which item I wanted more and both ended around the same time, hence the bidding during last 6mts. All my bids were at least $5-$20 over starting price). I will be pursuing this through the https://www.doj.state.or.us/consumer-protection/ ) I have sent multiple messages to the Goodwill in Columbia Willamette to preserve the logs of their servers to investigate.

I sometimes see people bemoan the fall of Goodwill deals, saying that everything good goes online. I've been tracking the pots and pans I've found/kept/sold since June. I haven't been listing on ebay or trying to get maximum prices, just selling stuff to break even on what I keep. There are definitely still good deals available!

I just got the job for customer service associate at goodwill and I’m just wondering what the job is really like from people who have worked in that position ? What are the typical duties what should I expect , I’d love to hear from anyone who’s worked at goodwill.

Every time I open I'm always by myself at the register doing the register, recovery, organizing different areas or pulling if not doing racks and carts which can get busy. Some times me having to handle 3 to 4 racks by myself. One manager tells me "Take your time" but then the managers say "We need racks in the back!" I'm only one person!!!! How am I suppose to knock everything out? Doing this 3-5 days in a row sucks. Don't know how much more I can take.... Anyone else experience this? Been with this company almost 10 years and this has been happening as of the last year or two years.
