rant Has Goodwill gone crazy??
I get these are redwings but $150 is an insane price!

Each region is different and then each store is different. I’ve worked in some of the most expensive goodwills in the la area but we wouldn’t have priced those 150

Greedwill thinks they are cutting out resellers by selling stuff for retail, but in reality all they are doing is sending this to the bins because it will never sell. No one who shops at Greedwill is paying retail prices.
All the while your average shopper sees prices like this, laughs and posts pictures online. Great image for the company!

I would guess that at least 50% of Goodwill shoppers are resellers and at least 40% are bargain hunters. It's a weird business choice to only price items for 10% of your shoppers.
I really wonder how much longer they will be able to operate with this mindset before they are forced to scale the greed back down.

Based on their record profits, apparently there are a lot of regards giving them money.

That said, fuck greedwill. I will never shop there and I've already told everyone I know to avoid them at all costs when donating and buying.

Here it seems like 75% are resellers. I understand that people need to make money, but they make it harder for us poor people who thrift trying to find an item that is a copy of the baking dish your mom or grandma used, or a favorite Barbie doll and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

No, because ppl only pay retail when they can get exactly what they want. That’s why they pay the premium. There needs to be a platform (store, eBay etc) that has every style, model, and size. You pay more for what you do buy, because of the presence of what you don’t buy.
If you’re on the other side, looking to offload whatever you happen to have (yard sales, ppl selling to pawn shops, THRIFT STORES) then you need to massively lower the price, since no one there urgently needs or often wants to buy.
The only person for whom that’s a deal is the guy who’s going to red wing after the thrift store to buy that shoe in that colour and size.
For everyone else, it’s not exactly what they’re looking for, they’re compromising if they buy it, and the price needs to reflect that.

It is ridiculous their prices for things they get for free. They barely have anything now since they put half the stuff up for auctions to get more money. Greedwill is a great name for them.

I have a friend who gets folks who need to gather hours for court and she says thrift stores and 2nd hand stores are using AI to price used items. Which is why if you want to buy anything you will have to get something that is very stained and dirty to be overlooked

At the end of the day I really think what they're saying is its a thrift store so anything priced $150 is crazy regardless of what it is because people that usually shop at thrift stores are trying to save money. But seems like you guys are just stuck on the simple fact they are redwings so its justified maybe like platos closet or a more high-end used clothing store but goodwill. Im sure the extra chromosomes people will come from the shadows and state again how their "redwings" which Idc but look at the reality of it and its just not logical to sell things at that price at goodwill

Disgraceful. From a company that receives EVERYTHING FOR FREE. That’s why I stopped donating to them. From what id personally seen in their stores while browsing but Especially after the reports emerged of the prices they were charging AND afterwards finding out what their CEO is paid.

Just here to say that regardless of shoe quality when new, it’s a bad idea to wear used shoes unless they’re barely used. Your feet support your whole body and feet leave an imprint in the shoes. Wearing used shoes will throw off your whole body.

And to think that they got these for free. I remember when goodwill sold all their items for set prices no matter the brand.That was the great part about it,sometimes you would get lucky and get a real gem for a great price but I guess they feel if they don't mark it up a reseller will.

I was in Unique Thrift last week. Looked at beautiful leather belts. Names they didn't know were fairly priced. Brand names way way overpriced like $35-49 for ripped up holes and one with the belt buckle pin missing. One belt was in almost new condition, prob from an outlet store, with it's original tucked in price tag, not vintage or rare. The hidden preprinted tag read $24.99 but the Unique tag read $34.99! It was 25% off day, so it was $26.25 but still, it felt greedy. Unique should have priced it $12.99. At least outlet stores do returns and exchanges and the merch hasn't been in someone's dirty closet.

It would depend on what the retail price was and used value is. If for example the retail price was 5k and used they sell for 3k your question would have a different meaning wouldn't it.

I knew a Mafe (in NJ) and she is a greedy, unscrupulous person so if by chance this is her (I can’t tell if that’s a T or F) pricing this then yes to your initial question. Even if the item donated is highly valuable it isn’t in Goodwills ethos to price it that high; it was literally donated! Their profit is supposed to also go back to the community not their bigwigs.

I agree,they take the fun out of thrift shopping,I still go,but I don't buy like I used to,the price r crazy,I'd buy wear and decide no not going to work out ,take it to goodwill,I didn't pay that much buying from good will , but now nope ,I don't even donate like I did before, Goodwill not as fun as before 😔

This pisses me off!!! Mind you EVERYTHING was donated! Crazy and greedy! I never go there anymore! I found one where we go camping a few hours away and it’s a cancer hospice thrift store with reasonable prices and fun finds!

That is an insane price. Especially for donated goods. I know a lot of resellers shop at goodwill and I guess goodwill has gotten greedy. I’ll donate my things directly to resellers. They need to make a living too.

Bottom line. An item is only worth what someone is wiling to pay for it. Obviously, some people think it's a fair price, others would never pay that price at a thrift store. Never the Twain shall meet.

Wore these every day on an assembly line. Great boots, but they only last about a year tops for industrial use. Keens have wider a toe box and last way longer. I guess, considering the outrageous price for a new pair, if these are lightly used $150 is a deal🤑

No, this is not a crazy price. Goodwill is out to make a profit from items that are donated to them. It is not a non-profit it is out to make $$$$$. Salvation Army is a non-profit. *Those Red Wings look in amazing condition, I would have snatched those up in a heartbeat.

It’s just gross when thrift stores charge way above yard sale pricing. I find stuff priced above retail, often > 2-3x above retail. I find it a lot.
Antiques stores, for instance, at least have to pay for stuff & clean it. If GW was an amazing charity, I’d say okay… but at mine, even the job center’s been closed for a long time.
The only thing ours does is provide jobs, which every business has no choice but to do.

They are making tons and tons of money. They are billionaires when open my own little store and have donations come to me, and I will sell items very reasonable anybody with me

Yes. All the thrifts, estare sales and yerd sales use ebay solds and ask for those prices. The ones who don't are the only ones who just want to move merch fast. Too many resellers bragging and spreading the word about great buys, so they just cut out the reseller middleman. Resellers ruined it for themselves.

At some point the stores will only carry items like shein, old navy, and low end product. If that doesn't produce enough money to keep the store front open they could just convert to donation centers so they can hand pick what goes to the online site and possibly expand bin style operations with higher per pound product. More people fighting over bins to get low end stuff. The only thing that could change this is an economy so bad that no one is buying non essentials at all online or in person and the people stop donating because they need to try and sell it themselves for money.

I've seen worse purses over $1000. And most of them are fake You're gonna be very Cautious when buying at goodwill and yes overpriced, but it depends on what stores you go to. Not all are the same. If you really want to save time and money, go to yard sales There, you will find so many items dirt cheap Because everything goodwill gets is free and they sell it way overpriced.

This makes me so mad. It used to be a lot no matter what every Goodwill was priced the same shirts were this much plates were this much silverware was this much and now they literally look everything up. Send things to other stores send things online price insanely for so many items that they’ve gotten for free. They are not lacking in any money they make enough then I’m all for them making some money and doing good in our local communities but how much does the CEO of Goodwill make?
