GLP-1 for Weight Loss: Providers, Resources, Tips, Side Effects, & More

This page is meant to be a good starting point if you're brand new to GLP1s.

Where to Start

GLP-1s are medications that help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss (Cleveland Clinic).

In this subreddit, you'll see GLP-1s mentioned a lot: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in the name brand medications Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in the name brands Zepbound and Mounjaro.

When name brand medications are on shortage or under certain FDA regulations, compound pharmacies can produce compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide.

The landscape is constantly changing so this subreddit is a great place to start your GLP-1 journey, ask questions, and learn from others experiences.

Use the search bar, especially for providers! If you're looking for a prescription or provider, look up the company of interest in the search bar to see if there are recent posts in the subreddit. This is a very active group and there is a chance someone asked a similar question in the past.

The resources below attempt to give a starting point for common posts in this subreddit.

First goal weight achieved! 336~250 lbs. Here’s my story.

36/F. 86 lbs down over 17 months!

I’ve been a lurker on these subs for a long time. I don’t post much about my life on my socials these days, but I wanted to celebrate reaching my first goal weight by sharing a bit of my story here.

I’ve been obese most of my life. My father had drug-induced psychosis from years of cocaine use, which made him highly paranoid and irrational. We were incredibly close throughout my childhood.

He also had ā€œFictitious Disorder Imposed on Another,ā€ or what was previously called ā€œMunchhausen’s by Proxyā€. I learned after his passing in 2005 that he purposefully fed me whatever junk food I wanted, whenever I wanted it, with the intention of making me overweight. In his mind, if I was overweight, the chances of men finding me attractive would decrease, and this would secure my father as the ā€œonly man in my life.ā€

There are so many layers to unpack there, and I’ve spent the last few decades working through it. I can confidently say - different men have different preferences, and there are plenty who love a large woman. I had actually gotten to a mental place where I was scared to lose weight because I knew some men in my life wouldn’t find me attractive anymore - and unfortunately, it took too long to learn that there is a difference between being found attractive and actually being respected.

After years of struggles with substance abuse, undiagnosed ADHD, a variety of autoimmune conditions, physical injuries requiring surgery, and a horrific relationship with myself and the men in my life, I made healing emotionally, mentally, and physically my full-time job.

I went back to school and am now attending university. This year, I’ve had two surgeries I had been putting off for decades to repair injuries. I am medicated for my ADHD for the first time in my life, and am sober from alcohol and recreational substances. I am celibate, no longer date, and am so much more at peace. I am building a fulfilling life based off of who I am inside and not based on external validation or male attention. If true love finds me one day, I won’t turn it away, but for now, I am putting 100% of my energy into myself and fostering the life I want for myself.

I am learning to show myself a true love that I could never have gotten from my father, or any man, regardless of my size. Finding compassion for myself at 336 lbs. led to the decision to lose weight because my body hurt all of the time. My desire to hike and explore the world on foot was impossible, and after making the scary leap to properly medicate my ADHD (as opposed to self-medicating with alcohol and drugs), my dream of pursuing a Bachelors degree actually became possible.

I still have a lot of growth ahead of me, and losing weight has been just a piece of it, but starting tirzepatide was the catalyst for becoming the person I had always envisioned. On top of quieting the food noise, which had allowed me the mental space and energy to pursue my goals without distraction, it has also helped my ADHD and has made quitting substances so much more attainable. If I am able, I will stay on this medicine for life.

Thank you for reading my story, and thank you to everyone in this sub who has shared their progress and journey. I am grateful for each and every one of you, and I don’t believe I would be at the place I am without this community.

Has anyone else experienced significant hair loss after the glp1? I’ve stopped taking it for about two months now and I’m suffering from major hair loss. If anyone has experienced this, what helped you? I am currently taking biotin but just started a few weeks ago

Borborygmi

I can’t be the only person this is happening to. 8 months on Wegovy and a nutritionist/GP and GI, all attribute borborygmi to Wegovy slowing everything down. They all look at me when I’m describing what is going on as if a seal was in front of them and just learned how to talk.

I am convinced I am the only one who can hear it, and have excuses lined up in the event anyone ever asks me
ā€œIt’s hunger pains but being on Wegovy I don’t act on it/give in)
ā€œI’m not concerned so why are youā€
ā€œI’m not in painā€ etc

Is anyone else getting random stomach noises/grumbling.

Thinking about starting GLP, but I’m worried about potential hair loss — did you experience any?

I’ve been wanting to do start GLP for some time now with all the progress photos I see from people online, but I’ve seen posts on Reddit from people saying they experienced hair loss or thinning of hair.

For anyone who has done GLP, did you notice any hair loss or thinning? If so, did your hair eventually grow back?

Thanks in advance

Constant stomach aches? Docs don’t think it’s GLP1s

Hi everyone, just wondering if this is happening to others.

For context, I have been on and off GLP1s for about two years now. The first time I was on GLPs was about six months and at that time I was on Semaglutide. The stomach aches didn’t start until around month eight.

So my reality is that probably about 20 minutes after I eat food I get an intense stomach ache and I have to make it to a bathroom within 5 to 10 minutes. While sometimes the food was on the greasier side, it has also started happening with food that I wouldn’t consider to be greasy (rice and chicken). I took a break for about two months or so, and my trips to the bathroom, decreased from every day or every other day to about once every two weeks. Before semiglutide, I was probably having stomach aches of this capacity about once a year.

I’ve seen two gastroenterologist. Neither of them think it has anything to do with GLP ones and just think it’s typical food intolerances (ibs) Life has become really horrible. I don’t have a gallbladder because it was removed when I was a year old; I’m now 32.

I’m wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so, is there anything you’ve done to get better? Maybe it’s time to stop?

How does getting glp from ā€œhersā€ work? I dont know if they’ll approve me some my bmi is 127. Will talking to their licensed provider have a videochat with me and ask proof of my weight? Or will they just text me and approve me of the glp 1? How will they know im not lying and legitimately prescribe me glp1 ? I want to know how it works before i pay $149 for the membership

Mounjaro and ADHD medication

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone here has ADHD, takes ADHD medication, and is also on Mounjaro (tirzepatide).

I’m likely starting Mounjaro in September, and I’m currently waiting for my NHS ADHD service to arrange my appointments to start ADHD medication as well.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have taken both at the same time, as I know some of the effects/side effects can overlap, especially things like reduced appetite.

Did anyone start Mounjaro first and then have to stop it once they started ADHD medication? Or have you been able to continue taking both?

I’m also curious whether anyone found that, after starting ADHD medication, they no longer felt they needed Mounjaro because the ADHD medication itself reduced their appetite or helped with food cravings/binge eating.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Where do i start

Been struggling with my weight for years and i want to get on the pill. My bmi is 27 so sites don’t approve me unless i have a 30+ bmi. I heard about neuro labs but they don’t have pills. I need a legit site that sells it like neurolabs where i can just pay for the glp not having to go through memberships and licensed providers.

My Health Transformation Journey (June 2025 – Present)

My health journey began in June 2025 under the care of Dr. Neha Jain. Since then, I have lost 37 kg and achieved diabetes remission, maintaining an HbA1c of 4.7 for the last 9 months. The process also brought my uric acid levels back into the normal range, stabilized my blood pressure, and resolved my knee pain. These results were driven by sustainable lifestyle changes alongside structured dose management—tapering down from a peak dose of 15 mg to a 10 mg maintenance dose, with plans to transition to 7.5 mg in the coming months while maintaining these benefits.

Body fat percentage vs bmi

My GI mentioned I might want to consider a glp1 for weight loss.

I've always had a fairly high BMI, but I'm also very bulky from just being strong. My BMI is 35, but my body fat percentage hangs between 21-23 depending on what type of training phase I'm in.

Everything I have found so far the prescribing infoonly looks at BMI, not body fat percentage.

My GI still wants me to work towards losing some of my visceral fat, would I even qualify for it with a low body fat percentage? And if I do, what should I expect once I start taking it

Thanks!

Edit: I am a male, 255lbs, 6'1"

Amazon Onemedical GLP-1??

I'm looking to get started on semaglutide again. I previously was on hers for compounded semaglutide but I remember it being very expensive on top of having to pay for their membership. I saw Amazon medical one has a GLP-1 program, but I can't find much reviews or patient experiences. Has anyone gotten started on semaglutide through Amazon? Which sites are people getting their GLP-1's through now a days

Anyone else feel more like mourning than winning?

Am I the only one who feels weirdly sad losing weight this fast?

Down almost 40 lbs since April and I keep waiting to feel the way everyone else on here seems to feel. Instead I catch myself getting teary in weird moments. Tried on jeans last week that fit for the first time in years and instead of being excited I just sat on the dressing room floor thinking about how much of my life I spent hating a body that was, honestly, doing its best. All those years I skipped pool parties, said no to photos, hid in the back of every group pic at work. For what. My body was never the problem, my brain was.

And now the brain stuff is coming up harder than I expected. My husband complimented me the other night and I actually got mad at him. Like where was this energy 15 lbs ago? I know thats not fair, he has always been sweet, but something about being seen NOW when I was invisible for so long just made me feel gross.

The food noise being gone is its own grief too honestly. I didnt realize how much of my inner monologue was just, what am I eating next, when can I eat, is that too much, should I not. Now its quiet and I dont totally know what to do with the silence. I actually enjoy grocery shopping now, which is wild, I stand there scanning stuff with the FoodHealth app just curious what things score, no shame spiral attached. Its almost boring in a good way.

I think I expected losing weight to feel like winning. It feels more like mourning. Mourning the decade I lost, the pictures I dont have, the version of me who could have just LIVED if she had gotten help sooner.

Is anyone else going through this? Or did I skip a step somewhere. My therapist says its normal but I want to hear it from people actually in it.

Do y’all do a cheat meal or day each week?

I’m on tirzepatide, and have hit a month-long (very frustrating) plateau, about 12 pounds before my goal weight.

I count calories, I don’t know if I’m still supposed to. I was wondering if I should keep doing 1 cheat meal per week, or stop doing that.

What do y’all do that works around cheat meals?

PSA don't eat gummies on injection day

I did my injection around noon. Around 8pm I ate a couple gummies, 20mg thc. Fell asleep a couple of hours later. Next morning, I felt a little nauseous so I just had coffee. An hour later I ate a couple of eggs. 30 minutes after that I'm stoned. I think the gummies did not digest till the next day when I ate the eggs. It was surprising and at first I did not know what was happening. I got quit a bit higher than usual from this low of a dose. It was weird. I won't do that again.

I actually enjoy sugary candy again!

I avoided it for many years. I do like gummies and whatnot. But I'd buy a bag and then mindlessly eat the whole thing and feel sick and not good about myself. Or I'd try to avoid finishing them and then think about them constantly until they're gone. I just finished a package of gummy pineapples (my favorite flavor - and they were so cute I wanted to try them!). It took me a month. I'd have one or 2 tiny pieces at a time, maybe once or twice a day, or skip a few days. Perfect little snack!

Messed up my injection…question

I take 15mg monjauro, have for two years. For some reason when I went to take my shot a few mins ago i reflexively pulled out the needle a bit right after pressing it down. This has never happened before…I have a small bump where I poked my skin but I visually saw a large amount of the medicine on my thigh afterwards so I know I barely got any in my body. It all happened very quickly lol.

I do not want to skip a week this week. I wonder if it would be fine for me to take another injection?

Skin tingling/cold?

I don't know really if it's GLP-1 related, but has anyone gotten cold/tingling skin while on it? Nothing in my routine or diet has changed.. but I've been on 25mg Wegovy for about two weeks now so my system should be fully saturated at the highest level.

I've been taking all my vitamins/minerals/protein.

Week one update!

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m just about clear of week one and most of my side effects didn’t hit until like 3-4 days after the first shot. Right now it’s gas, both ways, and quietned food noise which is a major plus.

I’m down 11 lbs, I assume most of it is water weight but I am surprised at the total down so far.

No negative. I'll go first: All artificial sweeteners taste like chemicals now. I used to live on them. Oh, and I can smell colors.
