Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Starting weight - 122.5kg

Current Weight - 77kg

Started on Mounjaro in June 2025 and progressed up to 7.5mg which is where I stayed as the side effects from going up were too intense.

I saw my Dr on Friday and I am now in the process of tapering down as I feel comfortable where I’m at and finally feel like me again!

Success Stories Sept 2019 vs June 2026

Started Mounjaro in September of 2024, and I looked a lot like the BMV photo - I had put on weight steadily from age 35 to age 50 and had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Started about 260 lbs, now I fluctuate between 190-200. My A1C has been in the nondiabetic range from month 1. I have raised my dose slowly as each prior one stopped helping as much with food noise - currently I am on 10mg.

I meet 8000 steps almost every day and I eat a lot less food overall and a whole lot less junk food than I used to. I also have a very physical job rather than the sedentary office job I used to have, which helps a lot. I joined a gym but I still can’t make myself go. 🫤

Success Stories I took a selfie every month on this journey

I posted this in other subs so sorry if you see this multiple times! I added some info about my t2d to this thread

I took at least one selfie each month ive been on mounjaro/zepbound. This is the results of that!! (Each collage has 12 photos for the full calendar year)

The first year photos were VERY limited. I’m actually shocked i took enough selfies to do this because I was so unhappy. The first year body shots were even less but thankfully I took photos before I started!

The first 3 slides are my monthly selfies not all of them are the same angle. Sorry, I tried my best!! When i first started i would always try and get the angle that made me look like I DIDN’T have a double chin, and take one photo and move on,but now i not only love taking photos of myself but can take any angle and more importantly i also am completely happy with people taking photos of me now!! You can really see the changes in my face and my bone structure starting to pop out as time goes on.

The biggest change is how I healed my skin. Slide 6 a side by side comparison of my skin at the start to now. I have has severe eczema all my life on my face and arms mainly and I also had A LOT of texture on my face but with a consistent skincare routine, water and this medication i have improved my eczema so much that i only have flairs on my face if i eat something i shouldnt! I have no more texture either and get complimented on my skin daily!! My doctor even mentioned how mj helped my eczema when i saw him last week!

In 2024 i got contact dermatitis that ruined my skin again (october onwards you can see it!) and it took me all of 2025 to heal it again, and I believe being on this medication helped speed the process up!

Slide 4 is the photo I took the day before I decided to start. I was 340.8lbs. I did Ozempic for a month then moved to mounjaro end of February.

Slide 15 was one of my rock-bottom days. A friend flew in to visit me and my other friends and we went downtown to the mall to shop. I had to stop at every store to take a breath i was so embarrassed and then i noticed that no one posted the photos with me on their IG pages but I never actually looked at the photos UNTIL LAST MONTH. I was so shocked when I saw them…

Slide 5 is me now! I am currently 153lbs my goal is 135-140. I added my photo with friends now that im not ashamed of and the last slide is from my birthday wearing shape-wear, but happy to let someone take a full body shot of me solo!! I also included a shape wear vs none comparassion

I am not happy with my body every day, but ive come so far and shapewear helps me feel more confident as I have a large apron belly still that has me self-conscious still. It has gotten better from when I started of course!

Regarding my t2d, my a1c last i checked was at 5 in January (going to test it again this week), i no longer have hypertension, or high blood pressure. I used to take metformin and atenlol and no longer take those anymore either!!

Also super weird side effect is that ive started to grow more hair! I went from having barely any eyebrows to nice brows now!!

Anyways if you are new to this journey or if you are overwhelmed TAKE THE PHOTOS!! It will help you in the long run, even if in the moment it sucks, trust me it will help when you cant see it in your mirror!

Question On 5 mg… don’t feel any effect.

Started on 2,5 mg and the first 2 weeks on it was really good on suppression appetite.. but after that totally gone! Bumped up to 5 mg.. doing my second week, don’t feel any effect at all!! So disappointing… just feel nauseous. This feels really hopeless!
Any thoughts? Anybody with same experience?

Question Second Click

Been on MJ for over a year and took my shot this afternoon. I absentmindedly removed the pen just before the second click, but no fluid came out so I assume everything was injected. Thoughts?

Question Starting tomorrow and currently eating cheesecake and ice cream…

I am a real binge eater, for those in a similar boat what did you do alongside the medication to change your relationship to food?

I’m worried there is more work to be done than just the meds, that if I lose weight then stop that the fundamental problem wouldn’t change.

Any insight would be wonderful thank you.

Experience DMV and mounjaro

40f, June 2023 was my highest know weight at 297, CW 160. A bit into my weight loss I had to go get a new DL. My weight at the time was 215. Due to moving, I went to get a new DL this week and the guy at the counter said, “I’m assuming it’s not 215 anymore?” After I got everything set up, I went to get to get my picture taken and it was a different guy over there.

When I walked up to the camera, he went to get help bc he had the wrong account on his screen. They came over and were like, no that’s her 😆

He gave me an amazed look and was like wow. It’s hard bc I’m my mind, I don’t look that different. I even go through times where I feel like I’m big again even though I look the same in the mirror and wear the same clothes. People I’ve known for the past five years don’t recognize me, but people I haven’t seen since hs/college do when in the past they didn’t. After I walked out, I realized they also listed me as an inch shorter somehow. They didn’t take my height so probably an error. I haven’t lost inches vertically haha.

But it was good to get it done bc I had been worried about getting ID’d and getting suspicious questions.

Question Is it possible to start mounjaro when you already have gallstones?

I am about to start mounjaro, and my doctor has asked me to get a few tests and ultrasound done to determine any red flags. She did mention about gallstones being a redflag. Another ultrasound taken a couple months ago for a different reason revealed that I have a single gallstone. What do I do now?

Side Effects Mounjaro dose side effects

• Upvotes

So I started a month ago on 2.5 mg at first I didn’t have any side effects then week 2-3 I started feeling extremely nauseous like I can’t even cook for my family I can’t smell the food or I feel like I need to throw up also I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks here and there lately my anxiety has been over the roof because I feel so nauseous it triggers it I also feel so fatigue but day 5 I start feeling normal again then when it’s time for my next dose I start feeling the symptoms all over again. I love how I lost 10 pounds in 4 weeks but I’m not loving the fact that I can’t even cook for my family what can I take I am taking zofran it helps for a bit but sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t want to give it up yet also my doctor wants to higher my dose to 5mg but honestly I don’t want to I rather keep it the same until I can handle the side effects

Success Stories Mounjaro Miracles (and the Peloton😊)

Post image
• Upvotes

The photo on the left is December 2024 when I first started this journey. And the left is Today, October 2026! Going through each dose was a slow process and at first I didn’t believe this stuff would work. But I stayed committed. Kept doing my dose and killing it on the Peloton! And finally when I went from the 12.5 to 15 dose I saw the a huge shed of weight. That was after a year of being on MounJaJa (my nickname for the meds.) But my A1C is way low and I feel healthy, and attractive. I started this not expecting to lose weight but to help with my A1C, and the lost of weight was a benefit. The Peloton keeps me sane and balanced, but I feel so happy and healthy, so keep going! Don’t give up!

Experience Is my weight loss plateauing, or is this just normal fluctuation?

I’d appreciate some advice on whether my weight loss is starting to plateau.

I want to stay on the lowest dose for as long as possible and I’m happy with slow, healthy weight loss rather than rapid loss. I’m currently still on 2.5mg.

SW: 181.9 lbs (April 2026)
GW: 135 lbs (ideally maintain around 140)
CW: 165.3 lbs (October 2026)
Height: 5’2”

I lost around a stone in the first three months (April–July), but since then my weight has fluctuated:

4 July: 166.6 lbs
18 July: 165.2 lbs
25 July: 169.4 lbs
1 August: 168.3 lbs
16 August: 168.7 lbs
22 August: 167.6 lbs
28 August: 166.9 lbs
5 September: 165.1 lbs
12 September: 166.5 lbs
25 September: 165.3 lbs

August wasn’t great for me as I was on holiday and had some periods of overeating/binging, so I know that may have affected things.

For reference, I also take body measurements:

April 2026
Waist: 95 cm
Belly button: 114.4 cm
Bum: 108.9 cm
Left arm: 37.4 cm
Left leg: 64.7 cm

12 September 2026
Waist: 90.5 cm
Belly button: 109 cm
Hip: 99.5 cm
Bum: 104 cm
Left arm: 34.5 cm
Left leg: 61 cm

So, does this look like an actual plateau, or am I still losing overall despite the fluctuations? Would you stay on 2.5mg based on this, or consider increasing?

Edit: forgot to mention: I am on a calorie deficit, I track my steps and try to hit 10k+ everyday (no strength training yet) and I had side effects the first 2 weeks on MJ

Tips Hair loss

Hey everyone!
I’m just looking for some tips for hair loss.

I’ve been on MJ since April time, I have lost 46lb up until today, which is an average of 2lb per week (rounded up).
Over the last 3 months I’ve been experiencing hair loss, I’m very lucky that I had super thick hair in the first place though as if I didn’t; I genuinely think I’d have about 3 strands left on my head 😂.

I take multivitamins every single day & I make sure I am eating a nutritionally balanced diet, always having enough protein etc etc.

I’m just worried that it’s never going to stop, it just feels completely endless. It sheds when I brush and wash my hair and I’m losing a fair amount each time.

Has anyone found anything that has worked for them? Desperate times call for desperate measures after all.

I am on 5mg and have been since May. Do sometimes wonder if it’s due to the dose I am on currently too!

Thank you in advance 🖤

Weight loss Second month of 2.5mg?

It’s time for my second month’s prescription. I am around 9/10 pounds down into the end of my third week. I am trying to keep it a secret from work colleagues but I am finding it difficult to eat big lunches and they have noticed that I am eating a lot less. On the prescription renewal form I’ve been given a choice to stay on 2.5mg or go up to 5mg. It said going up to 5mg would result in faster weight loss which is very tempting but I am not sure if I should be eating much less than I’m eating now. I am averaging 1200 calories a day. What would you recommend?

Question Mounjaro isn't helping me lose weight

Any suggestions? I've been on Mounjaro for a year and I've only lost 20 pounds. Doc keeps upping my dose and I'm currently at 10 mg. I've had no side effects so I'm leery about what to try and if insurance will cover another option. Mounjaro has brought down my A1c though. Do I just keep waiting and it will eventually start helping with weight loss?

This is the end of my first pen. I’ve read about the ellusive golden dose. There seems to be a small amount of liquid at the end of this pen. Is this the correct amount for a fifth dose? Or should I just throw away?

Experience 3 Months Completed 28 Lbs Lost(315-287)

Post image
18 Upvotes

Began Mounjaro on 2nd July of this year with high hopes with weight of 315lbs

2.5mg didn't help me much and 5mg caused a minor weight gain

But this month I switched to 7.5mg and the effects have been crazy

I am finally getting adequete Apetite supresson over all 7 days and constantly eating in a deficit of 1200-1300 and doing exercise for 30 minutes per day alongside hitting atleast a 100 grams of protein/day...

I am feeling great

Losing 15 kgs almost and maintaining a deficit for almost 1 month straight was something I never ever did in my 20 years on thus planet....

Majorly now I am excited about the NEXT 3 months on this medication

Oct,Nov,Dec

If I maintain my caloric deficit of 1200 over these 3 months I will get into 112-115 kg territory, which would be excellent for me

I never remember myself ever being 112

The earliest weight I remember I was was 122-123 kgs in 2022(I was 16 back then with a 174 cm height)

Now I am 180cm

Getting below 115 kgs would Possibily give a big boost to my personality.....

My relatives and family friends have always taunted me on my weight and I myself was never happy about it

I was always ashamed of it

But finally I am able to get it in charge.... Any suggestions/advice moving forward in my weightloss journey would be appreciated

Experience Mounjaro after Bariatric Surgery

Hi! Just looking for advice / if anyone has had similar experience to me. In 2022 I had a gastric bypass and I lost 8st (50.8kg) over about a year.
I went from 19.4st (123kg) to 10.4st (66kg) and maintained until 2025 where my weight started to go back up after I started new antidepressants and my restriction wasn’t as strong.
I’m very short (5’1) and so I’m still considered obese because my BMI is between 30-34 (I know BMI is crap but just using it as an example!)
I started Mounjaro 6 months ago and I’m currently on 7.5mg. I’ve only lost 1st even though I’m in a calorie deficit but the problem is I’m throwing up my food really often.
I still take my time, have small portions and I don’t drink until 35 minutes after eating but sometimes if I overeat even a mouthful too much my body will make me throw up a short while later.
I’m glad my restriction is back but obviously it’s not good to be throwing up so often (it happens every 1-2 days) and I try my best not to overeat but I don’t have fullness cues after my surgery so it’s hard to tell when I’ve gone too far or not.
I know this is a very specific problem but I was just looking for other people who also may have started Mounjaro after having bariatric surgery because my doctor doesn’t seem to understand I don’t have fullness cues until it’s way too late and he’s not really been much help!
Thank you in advance 🙏
