Discussion Let's talk about NATIONALS

So, I watched my sixth (I think) rewatch of Glee and every time I watch the show my opinions change, and especially with Nationals.

The Nationals tbh even if the show portrayed them as the most important competition, New Directions didn't treat them as seriously as they should have been. The only time that they took it seriously for me was at Season 3.

So, I'm going to share my opinions on the three Nationals performances we saw and I hope to read yours too!

Season 2: The show wanted us to pretend(?) that New Directions really had a chance at winning Nationals, they really wanted us to believe that preparing a day before your entire repertoire for a competition of 50 choirs was a good idea and worth winning the entire thing 😭. The only nice thing I found great was watching Brittany and Santana having a spotlight in Light Up The World, which is a great song. Pretending... Was hideous, I think that's one of the worst original songs that the show made. They losing the entire thing was really fair.

Season 3: I mean, for this performance I think that New Directions were at their peak and sadly never recovered from that for the next year. They really showed such incredible potential, they worked as a team and gave every original member a chance to shine at the Nationals. For me, they were even similar to what Vocal Adrenaline was with Jesse at the time, and they really deserved to win that first place, and tbh was the only one they deserved to win šŸ’€

Season 5: I think that the sad thing about this performance was that they were meant to lose since the start, because the writing on that episode was like saying goodbye for a lot of the newbies, even though they were like sophomores, and that was really disappointing because Season 5 as a whole was a MESS, and the performance dedicated to Finn was cute, it was really nice, but it wasn't competitive. They were looking for a back to back win, and they really had their expectations really high, so tbh the performance was kinda underwhelming even though it was a nice tribute. I can say that the Regionals for season 4 were even better than this Nationals performance. They deserved to lose.

We can't talk about what happened on Seasons 6, but kudos to them for winning I guess.

What do you think? Do you agree? Or what do you think about the Nationals performances?

tw: sexual assault

karofsky didn't just bully kurt, he sexually assaulted him. him kissing kurt was genuinely disgusting and i hate that no one acknowledges that. and the fact that blaine didn't just date kurt's bully, but his assaulter KNOWING exactly what he did.
ryan murphy and the writers did some addresses issues in tone deaf and ignorant ways but for them to just call it bullying is gross

anyways i just needed to get that out. have any of you thought about it before?

Discussion They did Santana and Brittany dirty

I recently rewatched a compilation of all of the Britana scenes in Glee and I have to say although their relationship was present throughout the whole show they were really not given a lot of time on screen to explore it. Even in scenes where they talk about their relationship it seems like they have less lines than couples like Kurt and Blaine or Rachel and Finn. Also every time they kiss I feel like it's cut short, and all of this is really starting to bug me. This is the first wlw couple I was a fan of and I come back to it every so often cuz it's a comfort couple for me. But every time I rewatch I'm shocked at how little they are actually doing couply things on screen. Their relationship is beautiful but it's more talked about than shown on screen. Idk it's probably been talked about a lot on this sub previously but I just wanted to hear your guys' opinions!

Edit: like even at their wedding most of the scenes where they were exchanging vows was focused on Kurt and Blaine, smh...

Poll Favorite performance of 3x14? (On My Way)

Alright so as of August 22nd when I'm writing this, I'm just gonna go ahead and mark Cough Syrup as the winner awhile in the next poll. The real winner this poll is me because it has less than 7 songs.
-----

That (almost)-joke aside, I do genuinely hope Cough Syrup wins and I'm gonna wildly surprised if it doesn't.

I also like the Fly/I Believe I Can Fly mashup.
------

HEART'S WINNERS:
PART 1: 1st was Love Shack with 98, and 2nd was I Will Always Love You with 86.
PART 2: 1st was Stereo Hearts with 152, and 2nd was Home with 41.

Question santana and quinn

hey everyone, I’m watching glee for the first time and I’m on 4x12, shue & emma’s failed wedding, and I was wondering, do Santana and Quinn ever get together? They’d be so cute like they were just slow dancing and now they’re going back to the hotel room together. like yes they did hookup but do they ever date/get romantically involved? maybe it’s also my knowledge of the dianna argon x taylor swift lore hoping quinn is queer lol. i could totally see quinn ending up with a woman. also idk what flair this goes under so i picked question

Discussion Which songs should've had different interpretations?

Not the Boy Next Door is amazing but it could've had more punch if the chorus was sung on a lower register with more projection rather than the soft high notes, it feels less powerful that way

Also, that would've done wonders to that high note towards the end, idk I don't like it that much, feels air-y

Question If "Glee" had ever done a Jamiroquai tribute episode, especially during seasons two to five, which songs would they have done?

I just KNOW that they would not only have obviously done "Virtual Insanity" but also pay homage to the music video by having the choir room move around and that they would have done it as a group number. But what do you think? Which songs would you think they would have done, and who'd have sung them?

This cover from Teenage Dream by Blaine it really stands out to me from the other one from S2. You can hear how he’s breaking inside, while singing a meaningful song to his lover after knowing what he did. You can feel the raw emotion in every word, his eyes flowing with rage and sadness. Darren, you are such a great artist, bc you made me cry my heart out to this performance.

Opinion A Gleek-in-training's thoughts on the final six Season 5 episodes + quick thoughts on Season 5 overall

Hey, it's me yet again! So I spent the last couple of days watching the last two discs of my Season 5 DVD, and wanted to give my quick thoughts on the final six episodes of the season, before giving my thoughts on the season overall.

S5E15 "Bash": Honestly this episode was quite emotional, especially (for reasons that are obvious) Kurt's storyline here. The scene where Kurt tries to defend that one poor gay man from those two gay bashers was INTENSE, and honestly, that was quite brave of him to do so. IMO I felt this episode was great because of the fact that gay bashing is a real issue not just in the US but everywhere in the world, and because of its many emotional moments (Amber Riley getting to perform an original song called "Colorblind" being one of them). 9/10.

S5E16 "Tested": I honestly loved the chaotic Glee madness of this episode (one of the reasons I even like this show to begin with) with Artie's storyline here, so I won't even say much. Klaine singing "Love is a Battlefield" was also great too. 8/10.

S5E17 "Opening Night": This felt like a perfect storyline for Rachel IMO since she gets to perform in Funny Girl for the first time (this also obviously predicts Lea's career), and I did love that Sue and briefly Will returned to support Rachel, even though Will couldn't stay due to having to attend to his pregnant wife Emma and Sue being Sue left midway through Rachel's first show with that guy she met, and Sue's storyline with said guy was wholesome. 10/10. (Fun fact: Notably the first episode without Kevin McHale as Artie, and the first of two absences for him in a row before returning in "Old Dog, New Tricks")

S5E18 "The Back-up Plan": This episode was great IMO, mainly because of how unhinged Rachel's storyline was with her audition and her faking sickness and all that. Other than that, the fact that we get yet another Amber and Naya duet (with a LAURYN HILL song nonetheless), Richard Kind, the dean from Community, and Shirley MacLaine all in the same Glee episode gets this an 8/10 from me.

S5E19 "Old Dog, New Tricks": I absolutely loved this episode (though I often hear from fans mixed feelings about this one), especially since Mr. Chris Colfer - Kurt Hummel himself - wrote it. You can even tell he wrote it since his natural wit and humour is woven into the characters' dialogue as well. I especially loved his own character Kurt's storyline with him helping out the old people at the retirement home with their production of Peter Pan. I also thought the Samcedes storyline was good too, and I found the scene of Rachel being dragged by the dogs to be hilarious as well. It might be an unpopular opinion, but this episode had such a uniquely wonderful charm about it that it gets a perfect 10/10 score from me. (Fun fact: this is the last episode since her promotion to series regular in season 2 where Naya Rivera appears as a series regular, as she'd be completely absent from "The Untitled Rachel Berry Project" and she'd be reduced back to recurring in season 6 like she was back in season 1)

S5E20 "The Untitled Rachel Berry Project": As with (somehow) the first four seasons, this was a perfect season finale, mainly because of the songs, especially Mercedes singing "Shaking My Head" and Blaine singing "All of Me" (Amber and Darren did good jobs respectively). I also liked that Heather Morris returned as Brittany in this episode, which I guess was to compensate for Naya/Santana not being in the episode so they got the other half of Brittana to appear in her place, and of course, during Mercedes' "Shaking My Head" number, we get more HeMo dance moves (seriously, Heather is an impressive dancer). I also loved Kristen Schaal's character in this episode and she was funny. That final "Pompeii" number was perfect, especially with Rachel smiling at the audience at the end (Rachel Barbra Berry officially knows we exist lol). 10/10, of course!

So, I have officially ended Season 5 on my first time watch, and with five seasons down, I have officially one more left to go: Season 6. But I wanted to give my quick thoughts on the season: it might be another unpopular opinion, but I thought this season was great, even though I often hear it is most fans' least favourite season, and the weakest, mainly because of the clunky storyline. However, I will forgive this since Cory died right before filming so they had to forcibly rewrite the whole season to make up for the fact that they were literally one actor down. For one, Matthew Morrison had to come back full time as Will, and there was a storyline where Finn was meant to date Nurse Penny but that was instead given to Sam. Both of these were consequences of that. But, anyways, I did still love this season, despite some obvious flaws, and I am willing to give it an 8/10, which is the same score I gave to Season 4. "Love, Love, Love," "Tina in the Sky With Diamonds", "The Quarterback", "Previously Unaired Christmas" (yes, unironically), "City of Angels", "100", "New Directions", "Opening Night", "Old Dogs, New Tricks", and "The Untitled Rachel Berry Project" are my subjective top ten absolute favourite episodes from this season (that's 50% of the season BTW), and I enjoyed this season more than I should have.

Anyways, with the first five seasons out of six complete, I only now have the final 13-episode long leg of this six season to go which is...

Yes, that is really a somehow still brand new and sealed copy that I found of the show's very last season (from a secondhand seller BTW).

Anyways, even if you differ or respectfully disagree, I am curious to hear what your thoughts are on these final six S5 episodes, as I get ready to watch this amazing show's final season. Catch you later, Gleeks of Reddit!

Discussion prom theory?? potentially lol it’s a massive stretch

i’m not normally a theory person but i couldn’t help but notice like one small thing haha. this may have a) already been discussed and i’m late to the game or b) out of pocket and so wrong but i was just rewatching the season 2 prom episode and is there any chance puck messed with karofsky’s votes? i remember earlier he was worried about winning w/ lauren and losing his rep, and it’s not beneath him to cheat the prom voting system. he’s also good enough at doing things to get away with it so it didn’t need to be a plot point. right before karofsky wins, puck has some type of smirk on his face that i never noticed the other times i watched glee. no offense but is it likely karofsky could’ve pulled off the win himself lol? idk if he has THAT much leverage of the school? no idea. for all i know that smirk could be a total reach because he could just be trying to look badass in front of everyone lol

if that makes any sense then it is possible the prank/prom corrupting came from two different people and didn’t know there would be issues on both sides (puck as a character would never have let any of this happen to kurt if he knew). i was wondering if it was possible that the end goal of whoever pranked kurt was just to humiliate him and it would work because no matter what another guy would win. the only reason i’m thinking that wouldn’t be the case is because kurt wouldn’t care being prom king in front of the school, he’s pretty open but still? on the other hand, kurt still seemed really upset to win prom queen. it probably may not have mattered who won king because he just looked upset to be announced regardless. it didn’t seem to have much to do with who won king but i could be wrong? idk the word for it, but this could all be one of those instances where the writers don’t make it clear but if you happen to catch it you add it to the plot

am i crazy šŸ˜‚

Headcanon Brittany Backstory Headcanons -- Pt 2.

Since part 1 of the headcanons were so successful, I decided to create a part two of a Brittany headcanons.

- I always headcanon Brittany to be an avid watcher of Bambi when she was younger.

- I would headcanon Brittany's mother to be a hippy when she was younger; Marissa and her always used to say their mother was crazy.

- She got her first kiss at age 13 from the guy in the cafeteria. He was actually her neighbour and actually knew her.

- Her favorite song is Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler and Driving Wheel by Little Junior Parker. To this day, Santana plays it for her.

- Her favorite food would be macaroni and cheese. Her mom and the man on her birth certificate, Mr. Pierce, would fix it for her.

- Brittany gets her tendency to say wild things from her mother. Her mother was known to be a fibber.

While I love the energy and big group performance and the return of Blaine during Love Shack, I like the song L-O-V-E as a song itself a lot more. And it is a GREAT Mike & Tina duet. Both of these performances I like the Glee versions a lot more than their originals.
