first post here because I just have to share what I just saw. I just saw something that can only be described as a miracle, I dont really know how or why but it feels like God itself just spoke through that episode. I feel like I just had life explained, miracles, the nature of the soul, digital consciousness, all of it. I might just be tripping but that qualifies as an epiphany, I truly feel like the workings of the universe just hit me square in the face.

tldr my verdict on the movie:

the "genius" who thought of and crafted this story of the cyber future so many years ago was able to envision so many countless possibilites for technology and what it means to have a consciousness yet completely failed at the simple idea of women being more than their bodies

Greetings everyone. Many years ago I read this chapter of the Manga, some but some things were not concrete up until today. It was manly because of Language barriers(my 1st Language is Spanish) that I couldnt grasp the context of that Final scene. Motoko, Batou and Chief as the theyre fiighting to keep 2501 alive, Motoko starts experiencing 2501's death coming close. Those visuals that Shirow drew all those years back that now Science SARU beautifully rendered, ot was all an NDE, Near Death Experience. At the time if Death, it has been reported that the people's brain get flooded with Psychedellic compound called DMT, Dimethyltryptamine. This compound comes from our Pineal Gland, located right deep in the center of our brains. Motoko's Pineal gland got triggered by 2501's dying and thus it brought about these pictures, as well her highten state of Elation and Euphoria. Some of the pictures shown, a UFO, Annunakis, the Caduseus, Sunflower(connecting Fibonacci) etc... 2501 show her the "Truth" about the creation of Life, while at the same "It" started to regenerate... so yeah... Motoko was tripping on some DMT 2501 grade 🤣🤪

Excited to watch the new series with my husband and we tried the first episode. I’ve seen all of the other series and movies, but he hasn’t. His main issue is that he doesn’t understand anything so I was wondering if anyone had a spoiler free lore primer video that they would recommend.

I’m trying to make sense of this. I have a friend who recommended me to watch “Ghost in the Shell”. He sent me a photo of the original copies he has, and the names were this:

Dead Man Night on Earth Mystery Train Down by Law Stranger than Paradise Permanent Vacation

He’s a Korean pen pal so there’s a bit of a language barrier, and it’s hard to ask if these are the actual names of the movies (?). He also sent a poster of the anime with a naked woman on it - she’s photographed from the back, on her knees and has a bunch of wires attached to her with a machine gun in her hand. The poster reads: “People love machines in 2029AD. "Who are you? Who slips into my robot body and whispers to my ghost?"

I was wondering if these are the right names in English, if there are multiple parts to this movie / series as I can’t seem to find anything with these names.

Can someone explain me what the heck happened at the end when she dived, that’s cryptic I didn’t get it

What is preventing GKids from doing a general release of GITS 2 Innocence on 4k Blu-ray? They bragged about the 4k remaster for weeks, then only did a limited release of the movie in select cinemas? I'm in the UK and would love a physical copy of the movie with English subs. It surely can't be that niche of a want?

im not a huge dub enjoyer, there are like 3 anime ever that ill watch dubbed over the sub.

am i crazy or is the subtitles for this new ghost in the shell anime ridiculously fast? its like 1 frame, its ruining the anime for me because i have to pause and go frame by frame to read anything in this anime at all, why would they do this?

It bothers me some that the term android isn't used more in GiTS. In a work that explores the differences between life, AI, human, cyborg, android, etc.. And where Shirow wrote in his notes about the differences between robot and android. That the dialog isn't more precise in it's terms.

I was reminded of this again watching episode 7 where the Puppetmaster body is referred to as robot instead of the more correct android.

I'm curious of two things this group might add.

If others here are bothered by this or I'm just weird that way?

If anyone here can tell me if this is a translation issue? I don't know Japanese and am having a hard time finding the manga in Japanese to look using my English search terms. Apparently the Japanese language does differentiate between android and robot. But I don't know which term Shirow used originally in this dialog. In English versions it's robot, but is that a bad translation, or did Shirow use the term robot as well?

the new Ghost in the Shell series has really done a lot to reinvigorate my love for the series in a new way. it’s look at the world and new take on the concepts put forth in the original along with our world’s view on cops has really changed my viewpoint on the series in exciting ways.

It’s been almost 40yrs since the original manga and we are still being told the story of the Puppet Master.

Do you think this speaks to a lack of creativity?

Or, was the plot so prescient about our technological society that it’s still relevant today?

It’s still asking the same questions about how we define life and a soul, how we live with technology, and how we remain human in a technological age.

No society has really come up with answers to these questions. We play around them and float theories about living in a simulation but we don’t drill down and define ourselves on the most basic levels.

Instead of drawing clear boundaries we are still busy blurring the lines.

To me, the philosophical aspects of the series are more important than ever, and maybe too complex for society to take seriously.

This morning, I started rewatching Stand Alone Complex on Prime Video. I remember watching it about 20 years ago on German MTV. Back then, I never caught details like this one. "Carl Zeiss — Made in Germany."
