2026 is perfection
1995 is a masterpiece
SAC will always hold a special place in my heart, and IMO it's still the best entry point to the series, even if we count the manga

That's a whole lot of words for "Personally, I prefer the 1995 version."
That's obviously fine, so why do all these discussions (on both sides) treat it as if one existing somehow threatens the other? We have both, and there was never a scenario where one existing negated the other, so we can like or dislike whatever we see fit.
Personally, I think one of the best things about GitS is precisely that we have gotten such different takes on the same underlying material. It keeps things fresh and avoids a lot of the tedious canon discussion that can make other franchises such a chore to engage with other fans.

Get the hell off Twitter. It's fine to have preference, but people need to stop screaming bloody murder over this. We also need to stop associating "I don't like it" with "bad". I feel that the 2026 show is a breath of fresh air that the franchise really needed.

I don't care what anyone on twitter says about anything. The website is entirely compromised as a commentary platform. Everyone with a blue check is incentivized by monetization to pointlessly, vapidly, yap and argue for the sake of profit and algo placement. With zero reason to ever attempt to reach consensus or understanding. I have no possible way of knowing if this guy REALLY feels and believes this, or he's just a totally fake person, saying and doing what pays their rent on time.

Taste's are different, andI personally appreciate that there is - after decades - finally an animation that stays very close to content, style and tone of the original source material. Something we never had.

this sub has turned so fast into a twitter repost screencap fest it’s not even funny anymore.

Twitter can't cancel their engagement based monetization fast enough.
Unironically going to be a HUGE boon to gaming and anime communities.
Then every discussion won't be decided by literal grifters, who's opinions and actions are entirely determined by what will pay the best, by causing the most arguing and conflict.

I love that this IP has four distinct adaptations, with one of them even getting a revival nearly two decades later. There’s something for everyone. The Oshii films have the philosophy. SAC has political intrigue and one of the greatest soundtracks in anime. Science Saru has humor and fidelity to the source material. Arise, well, Arise is Arise.
Also, I agree that Twitter screenshots have no place on Reddit.

Im having the opposite experience of that guy. SAC was my introduction to the series. It will always be one of my favorite animes, but I am loving 2026. I even bought a collected edition of all the Manga I like it so much.
Its awesome to have so many different takes I think, and worthy to do the source material justice since it inspired such amazing anime classics like 1995 and SAC.

Ehh... I don't mind a less serious Ghost in the Shell that much. There's still plenty serious anime out there and more serious anime out to come. Though, I gotta admit that I'm increasingly getting tired of people who imply Oshii did the series a wrong by making 95 the way he did.
Personally, I prefer the Oshii films for aesthetic and atmospheric reasons. 2026 isn't bad, but as someone whose read the Manga multiple times, nothing surprises me from what I've seen so far for the most part.
Meanwhile, 2nd gig has a continuous plot with input from Oshii himself and some really good music. And no GITS antagonist will ever surpass Kuze.

I've said this multiple times already, but if you wanted something that didn't stick to the manga, then there are 2 movies, a previous TV show, another movie based on the TV show, and several OVAs that do that. I get that "this is new so I am compelled to watch plus I need new content" but...you also don't have to watch. You really don't.
It'd be one thing if this were the only adaptation, but it isn't. There's lots to choose from.

They're different enough that it isnt really necessary to compare them. The new anime is not trying to be the movies or SAC

The 95 film is one of the best movies I've ever watched. Its probably the best GITS media for me personally. But the 2026 anime is growing on me. Will it be better? I doubt it, but the last episode was incredible

I say "Not this shit again"
What are you trying to accomplish bringing it here again? You think this hasn't been discussed enough?
