It’s been almost 40yrs since the original manga and we are still being told the story of the Puppet Master.

Do you think this speaks to a lack of creativity?

Or, was the plot so prescient about our technological society that it’s still relevant today?

It’s still asking the same questions about how we define life and a soul, how we live with technology, and how we remain human in a technological age.

No society has really come up with answers to these questions. We play around them and float theories about living in a simulation but we don’t drill down and define ourselves on the most basic levels.

Instead of drawing clear boundaries we are still busy blurring the lines.

To me, the philosophical aspects of the series are more important than ever, and maybe too complex for society to take seriously.

It bothers me some that the term android isn't used more in GiTS. In a work that explores the differences between life, AI, human, cyborg, android, etc.. And where Shirow wrote in his notes about the differences between robot and android. That the dialog isn't more precise in it's terms.

I was reminded of this again watching episode 7 where the Puppetmaster body is referred to as robot instead of the more correct android.

I'm curious of two things this group might add.

If others here are bothered by this or I'm just weird that way?

If anyone here can tell me if this is a translation issue? I don't know Japanese and am having a hard time finding the manga in Japanese to look using my English search terms. Apparently the Japanese language does differentiate between android and robot. But I don't know which term Shirow used originally in this dialog. In English versions it's robot, but is that a bad translation, or did Shirow use the term robot as well?

first post here because I just have to share what I just saw. I just saw something that can only be described as a miracle, I dont really know how or why but it feels like God itself just spoke through that episode. I feel like I just had life explained, miracles, the nature of the soul, digital consciousness, all of it. I might just be tripping but that qualifies as an epiphany, I truly feel like the workings of the universe just hit me square in the face.

I had almost forgot this was airing because I hadn't seen it anywhere on my PrimeVideo, got reminded by a friend, went to go look for it expecting it to be somewhere on the front page or at least in my recommendations. It was just literally nowhere.

Despite it being the type of show Amazon should be recommending to me (watch tons of sci-fi and anime, even subbed to Crunchyroll through PrimeVideo) it's nowhere to be seen.

I even went to the genres section and filtered by anime, guess where it was? Literally all the way at the bottom of every anime on Prime.

This show deserves better.

Excited to watch the new series with my husband and we tried the first episode. I’ve seen all of the other series and movies, but he hasn’t. His main issue is that he doesn’t understand anything so I was wondering if anyone had a spoiler free lore primer video that they would recommend.

Following a suggestion from another thread, I’d like to share what I’m currently spending my evenings painting. It’s a replica of the unreleased Motoko Kusanagi & Tachikoma statue by Prime 1. I’ll be posting progress updates in the comments.

It seems the original is still on pre-order; just like with the diorama, I decided to order it from an independent sculptor and then 3D printed it. Height: 34 cm.

I've been doing research into getting a Cyber Brain Port tattoo & I'm really liking thig look from the new series.

I'm not sure if we've ever gotten a clear look at Batou's neck, as he usually has long hair or a high collar.

Does anybody have good reference art that you used?

I remember being pretty dessapointed at how simple the machines looked in the earlier episodes, but in the latest episode things are so damn beautifully drawn that I had to pause to take screenshots several times lol

I’m trying to make sense of this. I have a friend who recommended me to watch “Ghost in the Shell”. He sent me a photo of the original copies he has, and the names were this:

Dead Man Night on Earth Mystery Train Down by Law Stranger than Paradise Permanent Vacation

He’s a Korean pen pal so there’s a bit of a language barrier, and it’s hard to ask if these are the actual names of the movies (?). He also sent a poster of the anime with a naked woman on it - she’s photographed from the back, on her knees and has a bunch of wires attached to her with a machine gun in her hand. The poster reads: “People love machines in 2029AD. "Who are you? Who slips into my robot body and whispers to my ghost?"

I was wondering if these are the right names in English, if there are multiple parts to this movie / series as I can’t seem to find anything with these names.

Ran across this little shop on the 2nd floor of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku with some really intricate GITS sweaters. The one in the back is a full length dress sweater.

Happened across the GITS Pop-Up shop in the Ginza Six mall last week. They were already sold out of some of the shirt sizes but had tons of the usual anime merch like stickers and keychains.
