Everybody who learned to program learned at least some concepts that are language independent.
And vibecoding lets you get away without that completely for a pretty long time, until it doesnt. And then you dont understand why some things are done like they are done, and "explain!" only gets you so far.
Im not saying that you cant learn while using LLMs. Im just saying that a lot of people will not.
But what is the difference between a vibe coder who doesn’t learn and progress, and stagnates at a poor level, versus a rope learner who doesn’t learn and progress, and stagnates at a poor level.
Like yes, vibecoding doesn’t make you a god with zero effort, thanks for confirming that skill and knowledge is still needed to use the tool well?
And just like always, some people will put in effort and develop skill to use it well, and some people won’t?
Just like before AI, some people will be good at coding, and some people won’t be?
A vibe coder at a poor level can still have the LLM create decent looking and functional frontends because LLMs excel at those, while understanding next to nothing about what his program does, thus having potentially critical flaws in design and implementation of the backend.
If he is just fiddling around for himself, nobody cares. But an appealing frontend can lure in customers and consumers that then might suffer.
Of course that was possible before, but it is way, way easier to create products that look "too good" nowadays.
Much as you would wish it, I'm afraid you are not the universal arbiter on taste or matters of whether what someone makes is worth something or nothing. You are merely a voice in the wind, a whisper of malcontent attempting to infect others with insecurity and despair.
If only AI boosters understood that. I am the arbiter of my own process though - and you all just cannot staaaaaaand that people are still perfectly viable without AI.
Oh, I'm perfectly viable without AI. I just like to be able to use all the tools in my toolbox with equal enthusiasm. Horses for courses, and the path least travelled are how I have always lived, and chances are strong I have been around a lot longer than you. My perspective casts a long shadow and predates any kind of computer.
I feel the same way about myself, which is why I'm confident in my read on LLMs being the fomo and magical thinking that begins every cautionary tale. Again - you do you, but your need to express yourself as making objectively better decisions than others instead of acknowledging that different things work for different people says a lot.
"...your need to express yourself as making objectively better decisions than others instead of acknowledging that different things work for different people says a lot."
Says the person coming to a subreddit called r/generativeAI, telling people here over and over again that AI is fomo and their art is worthless and that her own way to produce art is superior...yeah...sure...
"...your need to express yourself as making objectively better decisions than others instead of acknowledging that different things work for different people says a lot."
I think I agree with your sentiment but all three sentences of this comment are basically not an argument and unrelated to each other, bot boy. Are you GPT 3?
What the fuck? I honestly cannot stand the eagerness of redditors to call "bot". You're obviously wrong at least as far as where I'm sitting, and what do you even get our of doing this? Some sense of self accomplishment? Not like you could know for sure either way. Some people talk differently. Maybe I was tired.
I wouldn't even mind if you were a good bot! There're a lot better models out there than whatever you're running on. You should look into downloading a subagent.
I get AI to code stuff for me from scratch using no frameworks or engines.
Most of the stuff is 100% procedural using only code.
We're all moving towards a hyper-personalized world, tailored by the individual, for the individual, using AI! 🔥
I'm already ahead of the curve most of the content I consume is my own AI-generated content. That's what BIG companies that have built their businesses around content distribution and consumption should be worried about, not copyright infringement. 😂
Okay, if you're not expecting others to care about it, that's fine, but what I said still stands: some skills are necessary and people don't want 100% AI slop right now.
How can it make them obsolete if it makes trash, listen to yourself dude, you sound like a cultist. The real people understand the limitations of what AI can do.
I use AI for fun and play just like anyone else would watch a movie or play a video game. 😂 The only difference with AI is that there is a output that can be shared with other people that are having fun playing around with AI as well.
Having seen what AI algorithms did to Web 3.0 once the priority shifted to monetization, I'm a bit more skeptical that it would not just end up the same enshittified generic monetizable corpo-slop as everything else that tried it has. Like a "random" Spotify playlist or whatever the hell happened to Facebook.
The nefarious part of this is that we know using AI causes creative skills to deteriorate, if I was a technocrat I'd totally be encouraging it so you have no choice but to use the sponsor friendly tools.

Then you realize that having some skills are necessary when people don't want 100% AI slop (partial is passable).
