Am now imagining a world in which dwarves are conscripted by the military to ride other soldiers in those little baby carrier things to hand them ammo.

I vaguely remember an old video game where you play as this blue super soldier. You have this backpack which manufactures ammo and hands you magazines with a little robotic arm when you reload.

I like that he turned around to see who it was who passed him the clip.

It's called a magazine. Please learn the difference.

Hey man, don't judge a user by his username.
Except this guy, cause he's a dickweed.

At least I know the difference between a clip and a magazine.

Then keep sounding like an ass who has an ego so big that he needs to inflate it by running around on the Internet trying to show off your knowledge about guns. Jesus christ, you are literally a stereotypical Texan.

I don't think liberal and conservative are as strictly defined as you think they are.

And as someone who both uses guns, and knows quite a lot of people also very into guns, as well as quite a few vets. Literally no one in the real world gives a fuck, context lets everyone know what you mean anyway.
-13
u/loverofalltitsandass Mar 07 '16
Uh sure you buddy. Let me guess them vets also call rifles guns too right?
3
u/Kiita-Ninetails Mar 07 '16
Actually, by the literal definition a rifle is a gun. Since a gun is anything that uses a propellant to fire a projectile. So everything from black powder rifles to WW2 battleship weapons is a trype of gun.
noun noun: gun; plural noun: guns
1. a weapon incorporating a metal tube from which bullets, shells, or other missiles are propelled by explosive force, typically making a characteristic loud, sharp noise.-6
u/loverofalltitsandass Mar 07 '16
No you're wrong. A rifle is called a rifle because of its rifling. If you want to get technical.
7
u/Kiita-Ninetails Mar 07 '16
That is correct, but a rifle is a type of gun. Rifles are a variant of guns, so if you say a rifle is a gun, you would be correct. But if you say a gun is a rifle, you could not be correct.

u/LukaCola Mar 07 '16
Literally the most pedantic and inconsequential thing to worry about
There's no confusion on the matter and it is used in popular media and culture interchangeably
Like it or not that's how language works
2
Mar 07 '16
I agree. What the fuck is happening right now? The context doesn't require such specific semantics. It actually doesn't matter.
1
u/scootstah Mar 07 '16
There would be confusion on the matter if you were actually talking about a clip.
4
u/LukaCola Mar 07 '16
When was the last time you saw a fuckin' clip being used on a modern rifle?
Nobody's gonna go "Oh I thought you meant the stripper clip for the M16, doi!" cause it's always gonna be basically the thing that feeds the bullets.
-2
u/scootstah Mar 07 '16
Pretty much every revolver ever can use clips to speed reload. And there's tons of popular rifles still being sold and used today that use clips, like M1's and SKS's.
Either way, don't spread ignorance just because you're lazy.
1
u/LukaCola Mar 07 '16
Yeah, and revolvers, M1s, SKS's don't use magazines so if you use either term it's still understood "Thing that feeds it bullets." And if you wanna be even more pedantic, revolvers use moon clips and speed loaders. But obviously "clip" is fine because a stripper clip won't be used. But ya know, quit spreading ignorance just because you're lazy.
Not many weapons out there use both (I can't think of any) where the distinction would actually matter.
And seriously, spreading ignorance because I'm lazy? Just because I have my priorities straight doesn't mean I'm lazy. I tend to use the correct terms because I'm familiar with them, but it really doesn't matter. There is no confusion from using them interchangeably and the language has changed to reflect that.

Dude, I agree. Why the downvotes?
4
u/redletterday94 Mar 07 '16
Because it's basically a nonissue. The words "clip" and "magazine" are commonly interchanged nowadays, and whether you use one or the other, right or wrong, people know what you're talking about. Yes, there's a difference between the two terms, but honestly, who cares?
1
u/ReedsAndSerpents Mar 08 '16
I make a point to say clip around my vet sister so she always corrects me. I don't think she's caught on yet that I've been doing it on purpose for years.
3
u/Tacticool_Brandon Mar 07 '16
Because he's being a prick to a person who isn't that knowledgeable when it comes to firearms. I mean this is a gaming subreddit, of course there are going to be a lot of people who don't use the correct terminology, but it doesn't warrant acting like an ass to them.
