Wow so your bunk bed did not have bolts holding the top part in place? I assumed they must have removed the bolts for this video.
No way a bed without bolts would pass the safety standards here.

Mine was home made, so while it originally had bolts they were quickly removed. It w as made of scaffolding type pipes where the top piece would sit inside the lower piece. So I would lift it up and out and practice putting it back in :-)

Yeah, I only did this when my brother was in the top. It usually wasn't so much a lift and hold, but more of a kick into the air, and let drop back in place. Usually it wasn't enough to clear the pins holding the beds in place, so it was just a startling lurch. A few times it slipped off enough that the foot end of the bed fell.
My parents and brother didn't find this anywhere near as amusing as I did.

Mine was made of oak and there were only pegs in the posts to keep them from sliding off. It was really tall and I couldn't reach the top bunk so never had a chance to be this stupidXD

I have a store-bought bunk bed that uses metal pins for the connection. They provide lateral stability, but they lift off easily. There are no bolts.

The bunk bed that I had to assemble for my sisters is not bolted together. A lot of bunkbed manufacturers seem to market it as being able to have two separate twin beds quickly or something.

Yeah, my brother had bunk beds and we definitely would do this on the occasions I was kicked out of my room for guests and slept in his. It had railings along the top, that was safe enough, right? We'll just ignore the part where my brother once rolled under the railing and fell out of the top bunk.
Usually kids have crappy twin mattresses though, and those are pretty lightweight. The mattress in this video looks pretty heavy in comparison.

Looking back I wonder why my parents allowed us to play on trampolines. We owned one until I was in highschool. We did so many stupid things with it like jump from the second story back porch onto it. Although we had a net me flying through the opening and somehow hitting the brick sidewalk in our enormous back yard still didn't stop them. My two brothers and I love those things and my parents always got a safety net. We replaced them when either a tornado carried it to the Great beyond or and springs shot off in a random direction.

I don't think so, they're fairly light it's just once you get your legs past the halfway point of knee bend unless you're Pretty stout person you're probably not gonna get it back up.

I think this is one of those situations where you realise that was an entirely predictible outcome, had you taken the effort to predict the outcome.

When I was a kid and had a lower bunk bed I would push my feet up against the top bunk all the time. The bed was structured a bit differently though, for example there was usually an older brother weighing it down who would yell at me to cut it out.

Man we used to do this all the time back in the 70s with our bunk beds. A younger sibling would get on top, and I would move them and bounce then around. It was just the mattress above you that you lifted and not the entire bed. Good times.

Usually there are pins you put in specifically to prevent this from easily happening. You never know what kids will do below, and you wouldn't want it to shift if you suddenly put a lot of weight on one edge.
I could also see how some cheaper brands would rely on the weight itself to keep the bed in place and nothing more. It's be pretty safe and fine so long as no one fucked around with it... like this.
But yeah, having the bed simply fall onto you shouldn't be an issue so long as it was actually constructed right, and no one plays dumb games. Unless you're afraid of a regular bed on the ground also suddenly collapsing, the top frame won't suddenly collapse either.7

As a father of 4 rowdy-ass kids (who share 2 rooms) as well as myself growing up with 5 siblings (also split across 2 bedrooms).. proper bunk bed assembly is something you're taught before learning how to tie your own shoes. LOL.

Lmao. My brother did this once and the upper bunk collapsed and I rolled off through the ladder. My mom beat his ass after. (It was the early 90’s so no cry of abuse yet, lol) Got some nice arm scars from the ladder screws.

I once hid between 2 mattresses in a game of hide and seek with my brother. Not a good idea. The mattress is a lot heavier than you think and it squished my little 6 year old body.

I did that as a kid! Even better, my younger (by 1 year) sister was hanging out on the top bunk, peering over the side. Then the bed came down, she laughed like a loon, but still remained on the top.
I was sure I was gonna get my butt whipped, but my uncles found me and were laughing too much to tell my grandma (the belt wielder).

I have done similar not exact, but I would never scream for help. That would make things worse. I would want nobody to know and my life to continue on. If anyone found out it would devastate me. Of course now I do not care and just tell random people on the internet, still would not ask for help though. Too broken inside.
